Title: Dinosaurs, where for art thou?
Post by: Tom Reed on 15 July 2013, 01:59:52 PM
I know this has most likely been asked before but my search-fu has failed me.
I am looking for cheap 28mm dinosaurs, Allosaurus, Velociraptors, Anklyasaurus, etc.

Try the Dollar Store and Dollar General. Sometimes they are a bit large but others scale close enough.

I live not far from Drumheller, where the museum Royal Tyrell is. I picked up a cool dinosaur at the gas station there.  lol

The museum is full of every kind of dinosaur imaginable.  :D

For 28mm velociraptors, HLBS in the US has a great selection (http://www.hlbs.co.uk/type.php?id=90), including very, very nice velociraptors in the classic Jurassic Park style, done in pewter.

They also have smaller raptor-like dinos, and a selection of bigger beasties too.

For larger dinos, as has already been said, look at the various plastic toy lineups. We've scored a number of very nice dino models from toy stores and the toy sections of local thrift stores. There's a lot of manufacturers out there; one that caught my eye recently is the CollectA line carried by Reaper Miniatures (http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Collecta). Looking at the dimensions given on the CollectA pages, a lot of those plastic models would work nicely in pulp 28mm games.

If you have access to a Toys-R-Us, in their "educational" section they've got some Dinosaur toys packaged as Animal Planet's "Dino Valley."  There are some packs that have one big plastic articulated dinosaur and 2 small PVC ones.  The smaller pvc ones have truly excellent sculpts (many were made as Jurassic Park toys originally, I think), and are of a fairly equitable scale to 28mm.  You can get T-Rexes, of course, but also Plesiosaurs, Triceratops, Stegosauri, and Ceratasauri, and a handful of others.  I've used a few, and they're cheap for big gaming pieces.
