Post by: nevermore on 19 July 2013, 10:29:38 AM
Painting horses as taught me by the Late Peter Gilder ( Much admired at Grimsby Wargames Society for his generosity and help)

A4 sheet available on the website to download onto pc from the website with instructions

image upload no limit (http://postimage.org/)

Clean and undercoat figures in the usual way Then put a good coat of Orange Red or any variation for Browns and Bays (experiment with as many shades as you can) or Purple or Dark blue for black horses

The colours I used for this stage

programs to take screenshots (http://postimage.org/app.php)

When this coat is thoroughly dry mix a thick paste like amount of the tube acrylic paint,Burnt Umber Raw Umber Raw Sienna or Burnt Sienna for browns and Bays and Black for black

Paint the tails and manes black white or grey look at real horses for appropriate combinations

screenshot studio (http://postimage.org/app.php)

Paint the socks and blazes on some of the horses very few horses have white on all four legs and some have darker legs so black or dark brown is possible

how to do a screen shot (http://postimage.org/app.php)

Then just paint the straps Gloss varnish when dry to protect the model then satin or Matt to suit

I painted these twelve in under an hour painting time spread over  4 evenings

That looks ace.
I have always loathed to paint horses. And as a consequence I have always steered clear of armies including large amounts of horses. I will give this a try to se if this can make my hatred of painting horses go away.

Really interesting and unexpected (managed to read your title as "painting a horsa glider") Will definitely try this in future, thanks for sharing
