Title: Thrilling Fantasy Dungeoncrawl Prep Continues (Update 24 July)
Post by: Operator5 on July 20, 2013, 10:51:27 PM
I am getting prepped for the next playtest of Thrilling Fantasy and one of the denizens of the deep is this pretty fella. I have not painted a single miniature in 18 months so it is a bit rough and my skills are very rusty. I also have to finish his base (all my basing material dried out over the past year and a half.) I believe this is a Dark Sword Miniatures demon.

I think he looks great.  I checked out your Pulp artwork on your Facebook page. It's amazing!! And from what I gather you recently taught yourself how to do this. That's very impressive and you have a natural feel for the genre.

I have been running Rattrap for over 5 years (getting closer to 10) and I have been a fan of the pulps for over 20 years. I have worked with a lot of artists during that time and still use them for some things. But I love creating, whether it's writing, painting, building or illustrating. For a while, real life intruded and I didn't have the time to put in like I used to. Now that I am back in again, I have had this explosion of activity. Let's see how long I can keep it up.  :D

Don't worry; creativity seems to feed off itself, growing with each new creation. That aside, the Elmore(?) looking Demon is OUTSTANDING! GREAT brushwork!

That demon looks cool. The skin tones are great. How did you keep the picture small. Every time I post the pictures are huge.

I reduce the image to no more than 8 inches at its largest dimension and change it to 72dpi in Photoshop. This image happens to be 6" at it's longest side.

And thanks for all the comments so far from everyone. It's good to get the brush going again.

That is a nice model - and nicely painted as well. Looking forward to seeing more. I'm curious about that dungeon crawl, especially as I really like your games a lot.

Some more doors built, the trap in place, a demon lurking  :o

You will also notice that there are some white tile pieces on there. These are pieces of the PVC sheet that I use for construction. By making some generic floor tiles, I can drop secret rooms and passages in place without the players knowing about them in advance.

Nice paint job. He looks suitably sinister.

That guy is listed in Darksword as a "nightmare beast" (http://www.darkswordminiatures.com/shop/index.php/miniatures/elmore-masterworks/nightmare-beast.html). I have seen him advertised on ebay as a werewolf.
In the RPE clearance sale (http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/clearance-larry-elmore-reflections-c-105_106.html) he appears in a set of 3 called "Prince of the north".

But he certainly makes a very suitable demon.
