Always loved these figures and condsidered them amongst the best that GW produced. Not the whole range, just the more realistic looking pike units, guns and crossbows.
I've painted a test figure and gone for a simple two tone colour scheme which I'm quite pleased with :)
Based on pennies to match my Game of Thrones figures as they could be used for soldiers from the Free Cities.

Got ten based up and primed and will make a start this weekend and we'll see how we go. I'll get all the Dogs of War figures out at the weekend, arrange them all, take a picture and then sigh at the amount to do lol
cheers

Ahh, another one to watch ... :)

Gotta love that figure.
Nice finish, mate.

I was going to say, is there nothing you're not good at?
Then I remembered you admitted to being computer illiterate. Hope it stays that way. :P
-
Thanks chaps :)
Then I remembered you admitted to being computer illiterate. Hope it stays that way. :P
Oh yes, that will not change at any time in the future (can't stand the bloody things but I have to use them so I do :? ).
cheers
James

Muahaha I'll find the popcorn and watch you fail. lol
-
Nice work Jim :)
-
Another project!!! lol lol
Doesn't that make 20 now?
He does look good though.
-
James, you are making me feel inadequate.... :(
Lovely pj, btw ;)
-
Wicked cool. :D
-
Although I have no interest in GW stuff I have always liked these minis too.
You have done a fine job and I'd like to see the whole unit. :)
I have a dream of one day being able to recreate the Artesia graphic comic book in miniature and these would probably fit nicely.

-
This 'll be good. I've actually traded some stuff with a friend so I have some of these as well. Will be following this closely. ;)
-
Another one James? When do you find the time to play? lol
I do like the dogs of war band, even more so now its out of production. It means it's expensive and requires a little more dedication to build. You have chosen a snazzy colour theme. Good luck James, I will watch your progress on yet another thread. :D
Cheers
Matt
-
Nice, these dogs of war miniature are my favorites of the warhammer fantasy although I don't own any of them. Looking forward in seeing more of these fellows painted up.
-
Very effective color scheme expertly executed. Looking forward to seeing the horde.
-
He looks great, gold and red is a great combination!
I've been thinking of adding a few of these to my own GoT-project, but as Lannisport cityguards or something similar.
-
Will there be more? Or is it just the one? ;D
-
Thanks chaps :)
Will there be more? Or is it just the one? ;D
Just the flesh and straps to do so I'll be posting the batch before the weekend ;D

James

I don't know how I missed this, I'm insanely jealous (always wanted a DoW army when I was little, too many projects on the go to justify it now) and will be keeping a close eye on your progress!
-
Aha! First unit done ;D
And here are the pictures for the naysayers ;)

But it does all look fantastico so far!

Looking good. :)

I politely remind the little boy that despite how nicely they have turned out, the idea is army NOT unit painting ;D

bloody lovely!
eight days for 10 You creep :o;) this is not a competition! ;)
-
Either one of two things happened here:
1: Your skills with Photoshop have improved no end.
>:D
or
2: You have painted a lovely unit of figures in record time.
8)
I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say: YEA!
:-* :-* :-*
:D
-
Spectacular unit, James. This will lead to a very nice army ...
-
:-* :-* :-*
Beautiful James, I struggle to comprehend how well and how quick they have turned out. They look really nice and exceed most table top PJs, but yours are speedily dipped. Nice one.
I am looking forward to seeing your horse pulled artillery.
Cheers
Matt.
-
Those look even better in mass. Imaging the horde painted and in formation...
Good luck. :)
-
Thank you kindly chaps :)
but yours are speedily dipped. Nice one.
No dipping was used in the painting of these figures :)
And as to the photoshop quandary, it would take me more than a year to do something like that ;D
cheers
James

Yeah! I've loved the Dogs of War as they had been released back in the 90ths. Perrys did some great job sculpting them. Top notch idea and a great start, Jim, I will follow that one for sure.
-
They just look great and you seem to have collected quite a few of these. Looking forward in the painted galloper gun!
-
Little? I'm three foot wider than you ;D
cheers
James
Corrected that for you :o

What is a project without terrain :D
Now before you start thinking I've done these in the past week, I've had them for a year or two but I thought it would fit to post them here.
Card construction for the most part with bits from the GW building kits (rather good building kits if you like that sort of thing) and other bits and bobs from various bits boxes :)
Not the best selection of photos I'm afraid but I will remedy that soon enough.

lol lol lol
Watch it baldy >:D

James

Very nice stuff :-* :-* :-*
-
Excellent! Love the bronze armour :-*
-
quite bedazzling builds :o :-*
I especially like the overhanging toilet oriel window with the brick bottom
there should be a large bucket underneath ;)
-
Sorry James my mistake. I only quickly glanced at the (army painters) rules and assumed that army painter dips were part of the challenge.
Ooh shiny new buildings... I like the wanted posters lol
-
Shamazing as usual :-*
-
:o
Bloody brilliant, mate!
Love that crazy roof!
:-* :-*
You have settled it for me: I must build a balcony.
That looks far too good not to follow suit.
8)
-
alternatively, an authentic medieval shitcart could be parked directly underneath ;)
-
For a moment I thought it was the wizard's tower!
Splendid as ever, James, you talented so-and-so.
Do you actually play all of these genres?
-
Gorgeous :-*
(In a fantasy-shit kinda way ;) :D)
Now get back to expanding that castle!
-
Many thanks chaps, I have another that's built but needs painting so might pop it up tonight after Gladiators :D
Do you actually play all of these genres?
No lol

cheers
James
-
Good luck on your project!
Looking forward to updates.
-
Outstanding figures and terrain.
-
Cheers chaps :)
And here's the next batch (who were started last year sometime). I had to give them quite the dusting and when it starts to cool down a bit next week I'll hopefully finish them off :)
The original ten are in the background just in case you thought I was cheating ;D
cheers
James
-
Good to see. Great models ( a shame they are so difficult to obtain now). I look forward to seeing your army expand!
-
I'm waiting for you to finish them before I give you any gushing praise.
;)
-
Im glued to this thread now, very interested to see the end results :) I also very much liked the terrain on the previous page too, fantastic :o
-
And he's back on the wagon!
-
And he's back on the wagon!
No you daft sod, the above is my task for the month of August ;D
cheers
James

Looking good 8)

Ten more of them and they start to look like a proper pike unit, painted ones look great already.
Will it be all pike infantry?

Nah, if you look in the second page (I think) there's a picture of all the Dogs of War figures I'd amassed at that point... I've bought some more since then ::)
Anyway, got this out of the cupboard and gave it a coat of primer. I started it when this thread began. The weather was nice this evening and with no neighbours having bbqs that I could spoil with the smell of spray I gave it a blast :D

cheers
James

No you know normally I hate this GW-stylee fantasy nonsense. But that is a superb looking building. One of your best, I'd go so far as to venture :)
-
It looks marvelous.
James is very talented. >:(
-
It's almost perfect...... just missing some pigeons on the roof :D
Seriously though James, top-whack. 8)

Slightly out of Iphocus of course ::)
I haven't decided what will be for next month, maybe a galloper gun. Needless to say, the building will get done no matter what :D
cheers
James

Fabulous :-*
-
Smashing, if one can say that about a pike armed unit :)
They look super, great to see the good old minis getting the love they deserve.
Do you have some sort of unit base for them in mind?

Thanks chaps :)

Oldhammer would be one option as I have ranked sabot trays but also Sharp Practise and LLA :)
cheers

Brilliant, mate.

Made a small start on Septembers quota :D
A small amount which should hopefully ensure completion ;)

Going for the red and cream again on these, the leggings are red (which are now painted) and the tops will be cream :)
cheers
James
-
Lordy bagordy, the man just doesn't stop.
I think you did about as much work last night as I do in six months.
-
That's going to be a splendid addition :)
-
These are goin to be a week or two out of date I'm afraid :(
I will continue with aplomb after BLAM though :D
cheers
James
-
No dramas - less anything Capt B is performing in of course lol
-
Smashing work, Jimbibbly! :-*
And quick! I will steal the whole building thingy. And pretend I built it all by myself...
-
Well, what with illness, BLAM and various other things going on these haven't been done yet but I'm nearly there :)

All that's left to do on the figures is the flesh and seeing hw my own mix has finally run out I had to order some normal stuff from Foundry, here's hoping it does the trick...
The gun is still to of course but I'm undecided whether to paint the frame work the same colour as the the loaders 'uniform' ???
cheers
James
-
Interesting, that's totally the reverse of the way I do it - I always go for the flesh and faces first, then work outwards by layer.
-
Lovely work, mate.
That horse is great!
:-*
-
Interesting, that's totally the reverse of the way I do it - I always go for the flesh and faces first, then work outwards by layer.
First thing I was thinking, but I guess this was because the paint ran out?
-
These look great already, will be rather splendid when finished :-*
The gun is still to of course but I'm undecided whether to paint the frame work the same colour as the the loaders 'uniform' ???
I vote for the "uniform" colors on the frame work of the cannon, artillery chaps being the flashy hits with good salary and all that. So they most likely should be proud of their equipment and show it with nice paintwork :)
-
Thanks gents :)
Interesting, that's totally the reverse of the way I do it - I always go for the flesh and faces first, then work outwards by layer.
That's how I usually do it but as Lucky says, I ran out of flesh (ages ago actually but never got round to ordering any paints lol )

Yeah, I'm leaning that way myself but it's a bit more work ::) :D
cheers
James
-
I'm a bit behind too - hey ho!
I'd be tempted to do do the gun contrasting colours ;)
-
"It's a thankless job, and you'll probably die in an explosion, but the pay is pretty good."
lol

I'd be tempted to do do the gun contrasting colours ;)
No >:D
cheers
James

Nice paint job, and yes, do the gun in the red colour of the uniform.

Got my flesh :D

Painting is good as well, of course :D ;)

-
Lovely James.
-
Thanks chaps :)
Gun and carriage done on Wednesday hopefully.
cheers
James

Just the ticket!

Gun carriage is done but still deciding on the best sort of base for it.
Also got a group shot of all done so far (not much really lol)

Might have a go at some Tileans next :)
cheers
James
-
Who's been a busy boy today then?
Quartered wheels!! Nice touch I have never seen before. From the first pic I thought you had done the gun and limber separate colours which I also thought was nice.
-
Not busy, just finishing off all the little bits on figures I hate doing lol
The carriage colours are kind of a mistake but it's turned out for the better :)
cheers
James
-
wonderful!
I was always very fond of this set, I think there is even an alternative crew?
why base the gun at all?
-
Oh James that is very nice. Your worn white woodwork is devine. :o :o :-* :-* :-* :-*
Now go shoot some of Richard's cavalry ;)
Cheers
Matt.
-
That carriage looks bloody brilliant, mate.
:-* :-*
Oh James that is very nice. Your worn white woodwork is devine. :o :o :-* :-* :-* :-*
I hate to encourage that Bertie chap, but he is right, ya know, it does look great.
-
James why not go for a half way house.A movement tray with circular cutouts for the crew and the horse. The limber and gun would rest on the surface (you could do two little ruts to act as chock's for the gun)it would fit in with the infantry trays, and removed when the gun was being fired.nothings glued to it .So it shouldn't limit its use, and would help save your paint work.
very emotive use of colour, there James. The white back ground is whats drawing your eye,to the contrasting limber colours not your brush work.as theres no base between the model and the white .
Mark
-
Lovely work and I'd second Mark's suggestion :)
-
Thanks chaps :)
Mark, I think that's what I was leaning towards but you've put it far more succinctly than I ever could :D
I've got some rings that the coins fit in so I'll have a little play around for the best layout. Question is though, irregular base or plain rectangle (I'm thinking irregular).
cheers
James
*edit for bad grammar/spelling etc*
-
That sounds great you could but all the trays together for display jigsaw style that way.
-
That's an even better idea. The two trays seen are just standard ten man skirmish ones but doing three so the all fit together (in different combos) is a great idea and, if it's modular, when I get round to doing the crossbow men I can have 'sleeves' :)
cheers
James
-
Brilliant Jim - these look SO special. :-*
Have I missed exactly what these are for? :?
-
Have I missed exactly what these are for? :?
Well, there you have me lol
I've collected a lot of the earlier Dogs of War figures (Perry sculpts) and finally decided to get round and paint them. They could be used for GoT, or GW Empire as I've got loads of the original plastics or they could just look pretty on the shelf :)
cheers
James
-
Well, there you have me lol
lol
They will certainly look pretty on a shelf. :-*
-
Well worth the wait! :-*
Crossbows next?
Besides GoT, GW Empire and such trivial nonsense, how about using them for something real… that is, historical battles :D
-
Great gun carriage, I always liked that model. Clever painting scheme :)
