Welcome to the Pulp Painting Club (PPC)!
I am proud to receive the hurdle from the Professor and the much appreciated Ancients Painting Club. The idea is the same in most things but the theme, which of course, given the Board, is about gangsters and gumshoes, intrepid adventurers in fedoras and heinous swarthy villains, shrieking blondes in torn lingerie and comical sidekicks with weird accents, all from the Golden Era of cheap, titillating literature.
Club membership is awarded to those who participate in the goal to paint 100 miniatures, all within the Board theme. Every member of this forum is invited to post photos of his/her painted miniatures here. As soon as we'll surpass that one hundred limit, the club accepts no new members. The doors to the club house closes as we don our purple hoods and turn to our pulpy secret society tricks.
Some simple rules for this:
• As mentioned above, it’s about painting miniatures which cover the Pulp era and theme. If you are not familiar with the scope browse through a few Pulp board pages and I think you'll get the idea. If that doesn't help, ask.
• You may post only one miniature base each day. There is a slight change from the APC here, as we will accept multiple miniatures on each base. This is to allow for entries like a machine gun crew, two riders in a motorcycle and a side car, a rickshaw or a sultry heroine clinging to her saviour (or vice versa, we are concerned with gender issue here, you know...) But please, no unit displays.
• Once entered, you don’t have to post every day. It’s perfectly sufficient to post just one single miniature at all in order to take part in the game and to become a member of the thrilling Pulp Painting Club.
• This is not about showing your collection of already painted stuff, so please do post only newly painted miniatures. We’re not in a hurry, so take your time.
• All scales are, as always, a go.
That's it! Get painting!

PPC #1: Uncoth people with Space Chimp
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/14/134_29_07_13_9_18_54_1.jpg)
Slightly modified Brigade Game Atomic Café set which I intend to uses as Tennessee Hillbillies, Irish Tinkers, carnies and some other cousin-marrying cliché.
Worn jeans cloth is *hard* to paint...
-
Get in! This is going to be great :D Nice no. 1 Hammers!
-
impressive vignette
and I learned a new word! :)
-
Great start, Hammers, very cool idea and lovely paintwork, too. Thumbs up! Looking forward to the next 99 entries :)
-
It's a slap up camera job with borrowed hardware (camera and computer) and online PS tools. The pic is lacking in depth and should have been shot from more of a birds eye perspective.
Lovely model by Paul Hicks though, full of character, humour and tells its own tale. I still which I had the complete Atomic Café rules so I knew what it is all about.

PPC #2:Deep Water Diver
I’ve just finished some deep sea divers for the third part of my Pulp Alley campaign. There’s an underwater search for the Voynich Manuscript involved. Will this diver count towards the magic 100?

Nicely painted. I have that figure and I like him a lot. Braces hanging down and drinking a bottle of wine, reminds me of me!
Slightly out of season but you get the picture!!!!!!!! :o

Perhaps I should have 'X-rated' the previous picture to avoid frightening the younger members of the forum!

Ooooh!
A Pulp Painting Club.

And some lovely offerings so far.
:-*
I am determined to join in with this one, as I missed the APC completely (no Ancients in the mountain...Unbelievable!)
I have just finished off a few figures sculpted by the late, great Jim Bowen, one of those sculptors whose style is instantly recognisable.
I have quite a lot of his 40mm sculpts and this is one of my favourites and most certainly can fit in the Pulp category.

Dejected doesn't even come close to describing how sodded off with life he looks. Guess he just missed out on the chance to spend a night of fun and games with the Andrew Sisters before shipping out.

You may post only one miniature base each day.
We don't want to reach a 100 miniatures to soon don't we lol.
Well I dug into the lead-pile and found some Black cat bases miniatures. So I'm in. I don't know for how many miniatures because I'm on holiday for the most part of August but I managed to paint some miniatures up today. Not the best of pictures but it is midnight so lighting was a bit off lol.
So I guess this is:

PPC No. 57 'Old Tom'
He had seen the thing from the top of the lighthouse. It hadn’t moved at first and he had thought it nothing more than a dead porpoise or some such poor creature, washed ashore as the tide retreated from the stony beach. Except it did not look like a porpoise, or quite like any other thing he recognised. Despite its strange appearance, or perhaps more accurately, because of its strange appearance, Old Tom Crabbie found himself walking along the thin sliver of pebbles that split the sea from the cliffs and would do so for at least another few hours. An aged but well loved lamp was firmly held out in front of him, clutched in a weathered hand hardened by decades of salt water and hard work. The light of the lamp bit into the deepening shadows as the last wisps of sunlight pulled themselves over the cliffs above. Old Tom stopped where he was certain he had seen the thing no more than twenty minutes before.

Old Tom's face rumpled, thick grey eyebrows brushing together as he questioned whether he had stopped short of where he had intended? As he turned to walk just a little further, the light of his lamp picked up a smear on a large flat rock that caught his eye. A viscous pool of greenish liquid still slowly trickled across the rock. As he bent down to take a closer look his nose caught the vapours of a poisonous odour; a moment later he rolled his tongue over his craggy lips as it was assailed by the metallic sting of the smell. There were more green stains on the pebbles, but these were splashes, spotting the pebbles and rocks. The thing had been here and it had left, seemingly of its own accord.
Old Tom Crabbie might be a character in my Victorian setting when I get my Requiem figures or in my WWII Pulp setting. I'm quite interested in taking the Strange Aeons direction though!

'Tis true. Mine is the old OOP version though. Jens has improved upon his design since then. I added a bit of stowage though (also Pardulon parts).
I highly recommend Pardulon Models. The kits they produce are among the best resin kits I have ever seen. No bubbles, no mould lines (well, maybe some completely unnoticeable ones.. didn't see any).

Up all night looking for the missing men who seem to have gotten lost from the rest of the expedition, Doc finally calls it quits and heads back to camp to catch some shuteye before dawn. When all of the sudden he hears a rustling in the underbrush and what sounds like a muffled gurgling along with deep guttural grunts which he immediately takes for the strange tongue of the local Waikoro tribesman. Most likely tribal warriors who will no doubt out number him five to one and not to mention their cannibalistic dietary requirements; Doc takes off running full speed towards the camp. After entering a clearing he looks back over his shoulder only to see both Tippet and James, or what was left of them, fall and be devoured by a huge male lion.
Oh well, that James was always bragging about his excellent rifle eye anyway...

Maybe Sam and Dean can use their supernatural powers to help Tippet and James :D :D

Very nice paint job there Snappy.
Many thanks for the kind comments everybody.
She's the head of Opus Dei by the looks of things.
Prof., I think my back story will be based on Las Brigadas Femeninas de Santa Juana de Arco (The Feminine Brigades of Saint Joan of Arc) but I will build a fictional and more sinister development, perhaps a more radical splinter-group with nefarious purposes as there is no suggestion of wrong-doing in the Joan of Arc Brigades. Perhaps the League will be called Le Sorelle Caleidoscopici di Giovanna d'Arco as I intend to paint each nun in a different colour!

Yes, the "new" PWM19 Female Cowled Cultists :). I made some small modifications to two others, but I doubt I'll get them painted in time for the PPC since I'm off to GenCon in a couple hours.

What a fine entry, just superb, Matt!
-
Really cool entries; as Thorbjørn wrote, nothing spells Pulp as the trappings of ancient Egypt used in an inter-war connection :-*
Yesterday, this thread finally inspired me to tidy up my painting corner, desk, and old GW pain(t) station (I had to endeavour a perilous expedition to clear a path from the door to the corner of the study through the sediments of a couple of years' storing stuff needed to be moved from other parts of the house). Clean as a whistle now, and nothing to prevent me from poking brushes about (I have even begun planning some paint racks for the wall as seen on som pics of the Prof.'s painting area some years ago!).
I found a partly painted WF late republican roman legionaire that I'm going to finish as 'warm up excercise' before painting a pulp mini that hopefully will be done in time for this (73 already, yikes!). Well, if not, at least I'm back at the painting desk... :)

The bots are Heroclix minis, called a M-11, from the Hammer of Thor set. I grabbed 18 of them about a year ago, when I found some online for $0.25 each.
I didn't even bother with repainting them, we just re-based them and painted their visors red. :D

I have to disagree.
People, if you have freshly Pulp miniatures you want to post I strongly encourage you to do so immediately. We started several weeks ago and the limitation to post one miniature a day has given people plenty of time to paint and post. The purpose of these club is to gently prod people to join in a project, share their oeuvres. But there is also a soft crack of a tender bull whip involved.
We have over 50 contributors/members so far which I think is great.

He's not very efficient a worker but he knows every story and gossip in the town. Come to think of it, why is he always in that corner, chatting?
(He also reflects my current productivity.)
Very nice.
-
Ah good to see I'm not the only one working to make the club all the more exclusive. lol
-
Phew! Just made it, it was like catching the last steamer out of Macao just ahead of the Tong hatchet men :D
#93 Our Man on Guam ;)
Love this! Brilliant job on the whites and skin tones.
-
Ah good to see I'm not the only one working to make the club all the more exclusive. lol
The PPC is actually less exclusive than the Ancients Painting Club which has accepted a mere 30 members. PPC attracts all sorts of rabble of questionable character and repute, which is just the way it should be and thus there are more of us.
-
I'm still gutted I didn't get my Ancients entry done in time, though I now have 18 gladiators totally finished thanks to the painting club. I hope this carries on to other boards, it's brilliant.
-
It *is* carrying on to other boards.

Hear! Hear! Well said that man! lol
-
To be fair, I reckon the last few places should be for those who have not already placed an entry.
We have over 50 contributors/members so far which I think is great.
lol
Fair point, sir.
I consider myself chastised, bullwhip or not!
:D
Even more great entries to this rabble of questionable character and repute
Great inspiration.
Not many spaces left now.....

This close to the finish, if it isn't a strict requirement I'd photograph and be damned! ::)

I take that as a compliment.
Is it my laptop or is the image of that trapper rather out of focus?
Anyway, I though I'd show you, outside the tally, of course, what I had i mind with my first entry and the later Mother entry. The Brigade Game Atomic Café hillbillies and chimp is a great piece but not all that useful outside the AC context. Therefore I converted and painted the matriarch and made the rocking chair so that it could be carried by her inbred kin.

This I can use for various settings.

EDIT: Just tried a quick solution with a desk lamp - much better result, methinks:

Not my best brushwork ever, but not too shabby for the first mini fully painted in over 2 years (I had to skip finishing my 'warm-up' roman to get this done in time).
Phew, that was close!

Not sure. So long ago on EBay. I would hazard a guess and say yes, but don't quote me. :?

Yep, the distressed wench/damsel is a Reaper figure but I think it might be one that was released under another maker at some stage. Perhaps it was a similar pose?

And with that it was over. I'd heard rumours that it wouldn't be the last we'd hear of the 100 Gang though. I'd heard talk that some guy they called Boss Hammers was still at laege and that it was only a matter of time before the 100 Gang struck again. Well I'd be waiting for them this time, even if it meant tranwling some of boards from outta town that I wouldn't normally go to. Yeah, even the railway board.

Political correctness is anathema to Pulp if you ask me. Not that it should be taken as a reason to go to any excesses on LAF (which this mini does not do; nudity and bondage is not prohibited in the rules).

The immense achimes as the last and 100th initiation entry is posted. The huge bronze door slams shut to the club, a sprawling complex of temples, caverns, steep cliffs, steamers, submarines, float planes, tropical taverns, polar wastes and seedy metropolis neighbourhoods as no new members are accepted.
All members, please don your purple robes and hoods and report to the main cavern for the shrieking blonde sacrificial ritual. Tea and cucumber-and-cress sandwiches will follow.
All sailors, gumshoes, robbers/archeologists, rouge anthropologists, sultry victims, mobsters, cultists, explorers and other general-ne'erdowells eho have been accepted as members are listed in the Roll of Dishonour here (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=56564.msg671804#msg671804)

Steady, steady... The concept was completely established by Alex/Prof. Witchheimer except for some minor details. I just copied what he did in the APC because members wanted more. There is not much work involved, really, apart from putting all the files in the Gallery (which you could do by yourselves, you lazy buggers... ;) )
-
There's a gallery? ???
(I'm kidding). The Prof's idea is genius. The 100 Club gets so many people involved and enthused, and it's very entertaining.

Hear Hear. If one has to shed their clothes to enable escape from the bonds then who wouldn't. That way the movie goers get more film time over an early tragic ending. As for my mini I promise the potatoes will be cooked in their jackets. ;)

There are a couple of ways to do this. One is to add the attributes 'width' and 'height' to the initial img-tag (within the square brackets). Like so
'img width=50 height=48'
This will reduce the width of the image to 50 pixels and the height to... well, you know by now...

Many thanks for the help guys! My aspirations may be 'Future' level but my ability is firmly rooted in 'Ancients'!
