Title: A bit of Ordinance from the Black Market
Post by: Amalric on August 05, 2013, 06:35:19 AM
The Vickers 10 inch naval gun was used on the British-built semi-dreadnought Katori-class and Satsuma-class battleships of the Imperial Japanese Navy. After the scrapping of both the Katori class and the Satsuma classes under the terms of the Washington Naval Treaty in 1923, most of the guns were salvaged and used in coastal artillery batteries. What happened to the guns placed in storage was never known...

Deep within a dank warehouse in Shaing Kong;

I am General Kang most honorable customer, here we have a most rare work or art.
Would you like to see it?

A 10" gun formerly on the Aki.

And of course we also sell the ammunition at very reasonable prices.

The gun has been meticulously maintained.

The bore is in excellent condition.

The breech is almost large enough for your head if you would like to look in.

It rotates and elevates perfectly.

Perhaps I can show you something smaller over here...

In case you wondered what the set looked like.

I'll be using this most likely as an objective in Pulp games.

Great work! Followed your link and I love your Junk, it's brilliant! It's OK to say that here in the UK but I understand it may not be the correct terminology in the USA?

I copied your Barracuda and now I've seen your Junk (!) you've set me another task! I must have one.

Most impressive, and am surprised how effective the canvas sheeting is.

Great stuff and I like you little set.  ;)

Yes, here in the US the term 'Junk' can also be used as a vulgar term for a man's private parts.

MadLordSnapcase, your Marie Anne was excellent, far nicer then Barracuda. I really look forward to your Junk.

Those plastic clips make making foam core buildings a breeze.

Thank you all for the kind words.

As for the tarps, they're made from the classic technique of tissue paper, glue and a heavy layer of acrylic craft paint, then drybrush.

Thanks Amalric, I like both boats and yours was the inspiration. I am going to do a Junk but I reckon it will take quite a while. At the moment I'm painting the African Queen, not scratch-built though. This one is a resin and metal kit.

Thanks for the info on that! I'll be careful how I phrase any postings on Junks in the future! The forum will be littered with double entendres!!

All the elements in this scene work so well together. It's also nice that you gave us the long shot to show how you set up for the photography  :-* :-*
