Everyone needs a swamp! This was how I built mine.

Cheers Eric! The take home message on this build was: Easy (compared to churches and the like lol) but time-consuming...

Very cool...that is one thing I have absolutely none of in my terrain box. I do need to do some swamps, some day...

Hey Mike, thanks! Look, with your building skills, you problem is going to be keeping the eels, mosquitoes and muskrats from taking up residence in your model. lol

Ha,ha...thanks for the compliment! I do have a ground hog cutting a nocturnal pathway through my back yard...better keep the models out of sight! lol

That's a very nice scenery! What impresses me most are the little waves through the pool! How did you manage to make them?

Nice idea, I always wanted to do a swamp myself... but maybe I should keep trying to finish my remaining projects first.
I really like the lilypads. Did you make them by yourselves, or are they from some kind of railroad supply?

Love the deep, rich colour of the water 8) 8)

Nice. I love the accidental rippling effect. Really adds some (additional) realism to it. Would love to play with swamp terrain as good as this. :D

Excellent piece of terrain, I love the effect that different base colours have on the water. However I don't fancy waiting 8 days for the varnish to dry so I might try it using water effects such as the ones by Woodland Scenics. Do you know if that would work as well?

Glitzer, the lily pads are just circles of card cut with a punch and painted. I did a bit of quick wet blending on them to build some colour contrast, but the varnish killed most of that. The main thing is that they went on before the varnish, so they are in/below the surface.

Never tried it. I'm pretty happy usually to trade time for cost, but this was almost too far. I'm pretty sure that the ultra-clear high-build two-pack epoxy sold for varnishing fishing rods would work and be quicker, but the last time I used any it cost about £1 per ml and the cost of this piece would have gone through the roof! I'll look into the Woodland Scenics stuff for future builds perhaps

I wish I knew! Some bizarre set of circumstances must have occurred, and I have no idea what they were so I haven't a clue how to replicate this!
Thanks all for your insight and praise!

The 'wrinkle' can be caused by the previous layers not setting fully.
When I used to build boats (both model and 16-21 foot long dinghies), the more coats you had, the longer you left them between adding the next one on.
Best boat varnish by the way is International (IHMO)
