Hi Guys,
After many 'mojo-free' months, I have begun to paint a few figures again. Here are the 3rd century praetorians I've been working on this week. 28mm A&A Miniatures, based on pennies and painted in my usual 'dippy' fashion - white primer, bright base-coats, paint the dip on, squirt with Dull Cote and the job's a good un.

I need to do something about all my vexillia (flags) - I think I might get on and design some transfers. I can't paint letters and numbers to save my life, but I can draw pretty well on the 'puter, and I can make water-slide transfers.
Cheers,
Phil

Great to have you back, Phil :)
These A&A miniatures are definitely nice and you did a lovely paintwork on them as usual. Hope to see more of your Ancients goodness soon!

Very nice :-*
Any close ups?
cheers

Those look great, can I ask, what shade of dip did you use ?.
-
Thanks Lads!
I used Army Painter 'Strong Tone' dip. That's my usual one - though I do use the Soft Tone on very light-coloured models - white horses, troops mainly dressed in white, etc.

Even as close-up your "dip" painting does look god, Phil, I really should try it on my EIR legionaries.
LBM transfers?
-
Thanks, yes LBMS transfers.

Good stuff. And good to have you back at painting 3rd century Romans. :)
-
Great Praetorians Phil! Good to hear you have your painting mojo back.

Thanks to the inestimable Mr Hales of LBMS http://littlebigmenstudios.co.uk/catalog/ (http://littlebigmenstudios.co.uk/catalog/), I have been able to improve the vexillum:

The transfer I used was intended for the Aventine mIniatures range of 'early' (but not very early!) Imperial Romans: http://www.littlebigmenstudios.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_186_223&products_id=2317 (http://www.littlebigmenstudios.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_186_223&products_id=2317)

Very nice Phil! I'd not seen the A&A Praetorians painted, before, they scrub up very well.
