Title: Proposed Offensive Miniatures US Cav range
Post by: BattlewagonBruce on August 19, 2013, 03:52:19 PM

We are considering releasing a range of US Cavalry and Apache warriors for gaming the conflict in New Mexico and Arizona in the 19th Century.

I am posting some pics of the figures we intend to use as a basis for this range and we really want to know what people think of them. If there is enough interest we will go ahead with the range, either directly, or perhaps with Kickstarter. Please vote in the poll and post your comments and suggestions.

Thanks, Bruce, Offensive Miniatures.

I'd be interested in US cavalry figures for the Old West. But there seems to be a shortage of what I would consider to be nice Native American figures for the Plains Wars in 28mm. Foundry seem to be the only producers of a nice range at the moment, other than Conquest Comanche. Would there be consideration for other tribes rather than just Apache?

Not overly struck on the poses of the figures, are they just for ideas of what the finished figures would look like or is that what the finished figures will look like?

Yes I want to do some of the Plains tribes as part of the range if it gets going.

The figures are an indication. We would play around with the poses.

I certainly have a use for these and I'll definitely buy them subject to the usual clause (that I like the finished sculpts :))

As a personal thing, when it comes to packaging Indians, can I suggest putting the traditional weapons in one pack and firearms etc in another? I'll buy both types anyway but requests for where to buy Indians without guns comes up pretty regularly. Also a certain popular VSF skirmish game has a group of traditionally armed warriors that match this very subject in an upcoming book.

Good suggestion.

The figures would have separate arms with weapons so we could do that.

thanks

Foundry and Artizan does it for me when it comes to late 19th century apaches. I would though be interested in early apaches fighting the Mexicans in the 18- early 19 th century

Would there be headswaps for the Apaches? Although there'd be many game options for them in the looted cav hats, I'd be more interested in purely native gear.

It's an area that interests me as I already have a vested interest in old west gaming. I've wanted a range of figures for this conflict for ages. I am surprised that you haven't started with buffalo soldiers as opposition to the Apache as both the 9th/10th cavalry were heavily involved.

Figure wise, as long as they fit with Artizan/Crusader/later Foundry and DMH in style and bulk I'd probably buy them all. The figures above look too much like Britains, with fairly slim awkward poses so I hope they have been posted as an indication of uniform/period detailing rather than any preview of finished releases?

Pack size sounds good. Would you be looking to produce wagons and suchlike?

Not sure always wanted to do the plains war , but never got round to it but interested in the Apache's as well but some of the poses just dont do it for me ,remind me of the "toy soldier" type .

Buffalo soldiers may well feature

Also Apache cavalry scouts or ones with looted kit would be good too.

I'd be very interested, anything to do with the Plains wars and the Apache wars would be great.
Scouts, both Indian and white (Burt Lancaster in Ulzanas Raid), some homesteaders, civilians, prospectors etc would all be welcome additions. ;D

If you do go ahead will you consider mounted/dismounted versions of the figures. I see these as very much skirmish games where the option to have your figures both on horse and foot is essential.

And as Ray says make the compatible scale wise with Artizan etc.

I hope you get a good response. I think you might get more of a heads up though if you ask for this to be relocated to the Old West board. I can understand why you said colonial, but really it should be out West. :)

I agree with Nick, this would probably get a much higher response on the Old West board.

Also foot/mounted version of each figure would be high on a list of priorities.

Mounted figs will be part of the range on both sides:

I voted "Okay" but it is not that simple:

US CAV.  Nope.

Apaches with traditional weapons - all I can get.

Apaches with "modern" weapons - probably not if in packages.

Apaches with archaic weapons - yes, that would get some of my money.

Most of my battles involve Spanish (Soldados de Cuera/etc,) versus Indios, (including Apaches where appropriate,) from the very late 1600s through the early 1800s before Mexico broke away from Spain.

Winchesters "not so much" shall we say?

Gracias,

Glenn

After thinking about this for awhile would like to see both
mounted and dismounted in the same pack.
Say two Cav. figures on horses and the same figures dismounted.
I would be more likely to purchased them that way.
Also, please include Buffalo soldiers.

Yes more native Americans of all kinds. And I would love to see some Buffalo soldiers.

I went for the 'might buy some' option. In 28mm, and reasonably easy to purchase in one bundle, I could be tempted for more cavalry. There is a shortage of good variety IMO, more in scale with say Artizan figures would suit me nicely. I don't own any Indians, I just like the soldiers :)

That said, as a window shopper there is a definite lack of indians of all periods of conflict.

I would certainly be interested in a wider range of indians especially Sioux, Arapaho, Cheyenne etc

This would be applicable for many Indian nations (Apaches fought on foot whenever possible but rode to and from when they could acquire the horses,  Comanches fought on foot only if absolutely necessary.)

I like the idea of mounted and foot in the same pack. But as I hinted at earlier Sioux, Cheyenne would be good plus Apache.

I don't care for the sculpts and likely wouldn't purchase any...but I'm always happy to see more Old West options.  The minis look a bit too...1980's Airfix plastics for me.   :-I

I don't like those either, much too toy soldier. However they are only for reference I believe, they won't be copied for the 28mm stuff. Otherwise I won't be buying either.

I voted for the I might buy option as I bought the Foundry range when they first came out and have still not painted them. I think I would want more Indians when I get around to doing that project.
