This is exactly what I am looking into doing now as I am currently downsizing my gaming space. There is so little out there for inspiration so this is awesome. Any chance of a few more close up pics? It all looks great!

Thanks for the kind comments! I will post more pictures on my blog - next thing up will be a battle report, probably start of next week (I try to keep a weekly schedule). And I am currently working on more terrain, wheat fields, a couple of swamps. However, the biggest project up is a Norman motte & bailey castle... not sure when I will find the time, but I wouldn't even dream doing it in 28mm, so scaling down has a least the effect of making me bold ;)

Here's a photo of a 15mm Motte and Bailey I made in back in 2008. It was designed to be used as either a DBA Camp/BUA (the tower/keep is removable), and as a result I made it rather condensed, giving it a squashed look. Sadly for me I sold it off as I never thought I'd use it and SAGA wasn't around at the time. I plan to build another one when I eventually get around to painting up a Norman Warband. The new version won't be as squashed.

I did toy with the idea of making in 10mm but for some reason I've never been keen on the idea of using 6mm or 10mm buildings with 15mm figures when for DBA and HotT and prefer the 'cartoony' appearance, which is I tend to describe my models/terrain and the miniatures I use (mainly Essex Miniatures) in the past.
That said, when I see tables where lots of 15mm troops are involved, such as ACW battles using Johnny Reb, I can see the appeal of using 'down one scale' approach.

Very nice start on your 15 mm world. Some of the locals are getting in to SAGA so it does seem to be gaining traction (not with me, I hate "buckets" of dice - what you can do with twenty dice you can do with two). You've discovered some of the joys of 15 mm, clearly. Do be more cautious than me so you don't end up here:

That's a great castle, Barry. I also will reduce the size, albeit not as much. If you want to do another one, you might want to check out the book Timber Castles by Robert Higham (Liverpool University Press) - a lot of ground plans of early Norman motte and baileys in there, based on archaeological findings. There is an astonishing variety of them, so it's easy to find one that fits ones gaming requirements.

Nice looking games. They sound like a lot of fun. Just received my first few vikings in the post but unfortunately real life has stopped me doing anything but have the briefest of look at them. What do you use to base yours on?

I base mine on 15mm diameter steel washers. I get them from the local diy store, they are very cheap and only 0.8mm thick. The only drawback is the hole in the middle, but most of it is usually covered by the figure's base.
