Here are a pair of transports I painted up a while back for X-Wing.
First, the Belle of Alderan.

Shown here racing thru the Imperial blockade.
Though often overshadowed by Solo's Falcon, the Belle, a YT-1400, though slower could care more cargo and she made a great contribution to the Alliance's war efforts.

Models by AMC from the ole rebel base set, based with dowel and plex.
Notches sanded into the base to allow the use of the turning templates.

The Belle is a tad larger in the body then the Falcon, but the cockpits are the same size.

Now to get a game in.

Beautiful work.

I absolutely love that Rebel freighter design. Much better than the "Blockade Runner", which was very clever itself, but the freighter looks soo much like a container vessel it hurts. :D
Beautiful painting, too. I always find it tricky to do a convincing job on spaceships of that size and scale - too little and they fall flat, too much and they look choppy and unconvincing.

Nicely done, sir.
I like it!

Very nice. I've been thinking of painting my flight stands matt black; your pictures show how much better this looks.

Very nice work. I tried to google AMC and could not find the company. Are they still making product?

I think it's a typo - those would be the old kits sold variously under the AMT/MPC/ERTL brands. If you google for "MPC Empire strikes Back rebel base" (or substitute AMT or AMT-ERTL for MPC), you should come up with results. Sadly, there's only a single freighter in the set, but the X- and Y-Wings in the set weren't too shabby for the time and could look quite decent with a good paintjob themselves.

lovely jobs... why is X-Wing just so damned expensive?

Profit.
When you only need a few miniatures for a game it has to cost more for the rules and/or starter sets.
Gracias,
Glenn

You can get X-Wing stuff reasonably priced in the US. How much is it in the UK?

Thank you all for the kind words.

Chris,
You're right, it was a typo.
I'm none to fond of the Y-wings in the kit, but the X-wings with their closed S foils will convert into swell Y95 Headhunters.
anevilgiraffe,
I agree its pricey, but the quality is very high and at least over here you can get them on sale by shopping around. At Christmas I got some Ties for like $7 a pop from Amazon and I got the Slave 1 from Miniature Market on daily sale for around $10.

the base game is £23 to 25 (so about $35-40), which is 3 minis. Slave 1 and Millenium Falcon are about £20 - 23 each (so $30-ish), extra TIEs and Wings you're looking at about £9 ($14)

Chris,
I picked up slave one new for £13, the boxed game for £21 and the falcon for £21. So there are bargains to be had you just gotta keep your eyes peeled.

Amalric, sorry for dragging your topic back to the limelight, but after seeing it, I went and bought one of these diorama sets. I'm still waiting for it, but itching to know something, so I'm asking you - are the X-Wings and Y-Wings compatible in size with the X-Wing Game ones?
I'm thinking of using them as proxies for my Rebels (I'm an Imperial gamer, don't want to spend much money with that Rebel scum!).

Here in North America the prices aren't that different. The cheapest I've managed to get the Core ruleset is US$30 plus tax, and fighters for US$10, regular price for fighters is around $14.50-$15.00. The Falcon, Lambda and Slave 1 are usually $30, though I got my Falcon for $25 and a Lambda for $23.
