Title: Orderlies WIP.....The Asylum : M.o.O.S.(E). 1975 ...The Figures... (UD:19/01)
Post by: Mason on August 20, 2013, 03:00:23 PM
After seeing all the wonderful recent posts and projects on this board by too many talented people to mention (you know who you are!) I have had to cave in to temptation and start my own Spy-Fi thread.
That and the wonderful offerings from Crooked Dice coupled with the KKBB ranges from Copplestone and Artizan have proven too much for this weak-willed individual to resist.

The end result being:

M.o.O.S.(E)
The Ministry of Overseas Security (Espionage).

Seeing as my time available to this project will be rather limited for the next few weeks, I thought that I would cheat and see what I had already that could be utilised/stolen from elsewhere for it.
I have started to make some progress on some 'set dressing' for the first part of the future campaign, but until I take some proper piccies of that aspect, I will just post some things already in the collection that will be utilised.

Here are the first few things that I have found:

M.o.O.S.(E). 1975
The Ministry of Overseas Security (Espionage) is a secret branch of British Intelligence that deals with some of the stranger and less 'official' threats to national security.
Threats so 'unofficial' that the Government itself does not want to even admit to recognising.
Be it secret cults, evil masterminds or rogue nations, M.o.O.S.(E). may well be utilised to neutralise their threat.

M.o.O.S.(E). itself is headed by a mysterious individual known only as The Minister.

This Man of Mystery has been rumoured to have been the head of this secret branch of the intelligence services for eecades.
Whether this is true or not is uncertain, but what is without dispute is that he is very much the man in charge of M.o.O.S.(E) at present.

(The Agents themselves shall be provided by the players and added as and when they pull their fingers out and actually slap some pigment about! I shall provide the bad guys and scenery etc...).

The Enemies of the Ministry; The Khan.

There will be various individuals and organisations for the Men from the Ministry to come up against.

First up is the Khan.

(Painted by majorsmith and rebased to match my collection)

This leader of the rogue state of Khanistan, on the border of the Soviet Union, this despot is known to be attempting to develop and stockpile various weapons of potential mass destruction and must be stopped at every turn.

He surrounds himself with a fanatical, pistol toting, all female personal bodyguard known as the Harem.

Deadly shots, all of them have represented Khanistan at Olympic level in pistol shooting, gymnastics and judo before the nation was forced out of international competition due to the sanctions imposed on them due to their leader's activities.

More later as I find the pics of them....

Very cool Mason!
I love the back story for the Khan.

I thought the last bit was going to be a steroids jab though.  :D

Cheers, aggro!
The background to the Khan will be fleshed out further as his forces are added to and games involving him begin.

Thanks, Brummie!
You are one of those responsible for my 'wnadering off' on this tangent in the first place.
 ;)

The Khan will be one of the main protaganists in the initial campaign.
I have quite a few things to add to his faction including troops, vehicles (which will include a sizable motorbike detatchment to allow for a 'chase' scenario I have planned..) and some specific scenery for use in Khanistan.

There are also a few other independents characters that can be added to this to be used as and when needed.

Later I have plans for another major faction utilising some of those wonderful Crooked Dice Minions.
 :D

For heaven's sake Paul, will you stop it? Wherever I go on LAF, there you will be with some tasty, tantalising, tempting  topic threatening to lead the unwary in to all sorts of dangerous delights (including overdosing on alliteration).

I shouldn't be exposed to all this fabulosity at my age; have pity.

Naturally, I'm hooked already.

Thank you, sir!
I shall certainly be bothering you at SELWG this year for some of those lovely Minions of yours.
Dr Hugh Jarse III needs some lackeys to die for him.

I shall be popping over to bother you at SELWG too.

Right, having had a dig around the pictures, I have found a few more things that will be 'doing a Bosman' over to the 1975 project.
I will try to keep the posts themed and, as the last post contained the Enemies from Khanistan, I shall continue with the finds appropriate to that particular faction first.

This fella will be one of the Khan's Henchman, the leader of the Khanistan Guard.

Major Jerkov

Another lovely paintjob by majorsmith.

And these two fellas, coloured in by myself, shall be perfect as a couple of shady Secret Police or Agent types of the 'not very nice' variety.

The Hoo brothers, Hoo Phlung-Dung and Hoo Phloo Poo.

Next up should be some vehicles for use in the 'stan, being of Soviet origin they should be just fine.

Just gotta get the camera out and hope for a decent piccie or two.
Fingers crossed.

With being stuck in the middle of decorating and moving house right now, not much time is available for the painting of miniatures or making of scenery.
In order to try and keep my sanity amongst this 1:1 scale modelling, I have managed to keep my eye in on this project by putting aside some die-cast cars to 'pimp-down' when I get the chance.

Here is the first, a Soviet-built Taxi for the Agents to travel around in Khanistan incognito.

Much appreciated.

Got some time earlier to have a pop at another one.
An ambulance this time.

Suitably dirty for those country roads in Khanistan.
 ;)

I should also point out that it was Rivera who found these at a very good price, and was good enough to go back to the shop and get me some more when I asked.
Cheers, mate!

Only kidding, mate.
Enjoy the holiday and, at least, order yourself some Agents so they are waiting for you when you get back.

Then you only have to worry about getting around to painting them.

I have been informed that it is some form of food delivery vehicle, but am not sure.
If there are any Russian -speakers out there who can tell me what it actually says on there, it would be much appreciated.

I do think it works perfectly for the 'Stan, located on the Soviet/Chinese border.

What do you reckon....?

I am also glad to hear tell of that Son Of A Hugh Jarse being brought into battle. The good guys don't stand a chance! Especially from behind!

The good thing about this set up is it would make a great Strange Aeons setting too. You get twice the value (this is how I justify things in my head!). Loving the van Paul. Food delivery you say? It looks a bit like they have a carpet to me? Perhaps there's more to this catering company than meets the eye!

Ahah! So this is this Spyfi project you've been going on about!  :D

As usual with your projects Paul, there's excellence all around. I love the work on the vehicles (that delivery truck look suspiciously like a carpeter's though, unless those kids are flaunting the world's biggest licorice roll  lol ) and the miniatures are equally great. I'm liking the professor type best so far.

So; when will you be adding that airpower?  ;)

It certainly would, and I shall be using the SA rules too.

As for the airpower, I think you will have to wait a while to see what I am doing with that baby, as Blackwolf has sent me something rather interesting that I may well utilise in THAT direction.

Food delivery is what I was told, but really could not decide what was being portrayed on the side of the van.
Going by the various comments, it seems that everyone else knew what it was....or did they?

I asked in Open Talk for a Russian translation and the Prof kindly offered this:

It's an advertisement and it says "great choice of textiles", Paul.

So thanks to the Prof, that has been settled.

Rolls of fabric.

Similar to carpet.....and liquorice....and spring rolls too, I reckon.... ::)

Thanks for all the comments, fellas.

My take exactly on gaming periods, get as much use out of stuff as possible. That's why I think Strange Aeons might be good as I can roll it out across a lot of the periods I already have. I should hopefully know if  I like it by November!

The carpet was just a lucky guess! The van looks the part though. I must investigate the Modelmates stuff. Any particular ones more useful than most?

The Strange Aeons rules are very versatile too, as I have already said, I shall be using them for this setting but I intend utilising them for Star Wars skirmish soon as well.

I only bought two bottles at Salute last year: Mud and Soot.
The Soot is infinitely more useful.
I use the Mud to create a little variance in the colour.

Really easy to use too: Just brush it on, wait to dry and then dab at it with a damp cotton bud or rolled up piece of kitchen towel until you are happy with the result.

A little bit of drybrushing an earthy colour where mud would build up and you are done.

Easy.

I cannot recommend them highly enough.
They make weathering vehicles so easy.
And they seem to kill the 'shine' that all die-cast seem to have as well.
Bonus!

It's a shame it's so long until I get to play Strange Aeons  :(

November will be here before you know it.
I am worried that I may not have enough time to get the other half a dozen or so characters done, as I keep getting distracted with other shiny things.
Damn Butterfly Effect!

That van advert is actually really appropriate as it shows a couple of kids in a roll-playing game.

You should.
It really is as simple as it sounds.
I did watch a quick demonstration at Salute when I bought it,it took no more than a minute or so.
Get it, you wont regret it.

I will be mostly using my existing terrain, it will be the 'set-dressing', that will make the scene.
These cars should be a good example of the sort of thing I have in mind.

I do intend to build some winding country lanes for this project, though.
They will, of course, be useful in a stack of other situations as well.

Post by: Mason on September 01, 2013, 11:52:27 AM
Time for another Evil character to give the Agents of M.o.O.S.(E) a hard time.

Many of you will have heard of the worlds No.1 Assassin Francisco Scaramanga, he of the Golden Gun.

Not so many will have heard of the worlds 11th most sucessful assassin, though.
Seeing as it usually the Top 10 of anything that is noticed, those that sit at No. 11 tend to be able to slip[ under the radar a little more easily.

Anyway, at that point in the Assassin Charts we have:

Tristan deTwatt, also known as the Scabby Dangler.

Armed with his heavily customised 'Hairdryer-gun', the Dutch killer blends in seemlessly ( ::)) to his surroundings waiting for the right moment to pounce.

So Laurence Llewelyn Bowen is really an assassin? We think he's hanging curtains but it's really spies!

Mighty fine assassin there! I wonder if they will or have made songs about him like there's about the man with the golden gun? :)

Greegorr's "The Man with the Hand Dryer Gun" failed to make the Moldavian "Super Pop charts Top 37" in December 1984. It was pipped by one position by Olga and the Cheese Maiden's "Ziggy's in love with my goat".

It's a pretty sad tale really.

Very funny (and cool) re-purpose of the Jerry Cornelius figure.

von Lucky quite obviously knows far too much already.
Beware that knock on the door, the same way that Olga did.

Mr Cornelius looks far to much like a certain British interior designer to not make the transfer.
It simply had to be done.

I will dig out another sample that will be making the transfer to this project tomorrow...

That JC was just begging to be used in this project.
I think he may well have been the inspiration for Austin Powers.

Well, chaps, I myself have not managed to get anything done for this little mini-project for several weeks as I have been otherwise occupied and there just has not been any free time to get anything done.

I may well have been a slacker but, to my surprise, Bullock is the first of our group to get his Agent painted up.
Here is the proof:

A rather quickly taken piccie on his phone, I imagine, and I hope he does not mind me posting it here.

Well done, mate.
I am impressed, not least because you got your (first  ;)) Agent painted up before any of the others.

Looking forward to the rest....

A couple more Agents for the project:

The Bagman
(http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j478/themason73/bansheesetc005-1.jpg)

I think this fella will be perfect for the project. One of the Copplestone Gangsters range, I think his attire will still work in 1975, especially as an 'Eastern-Bloc' agent.
Expertly painted by Majorsmith.

This figure should well work either as an Agent of the Crown or as a femme fatale for the players to battle against.

Lady Agent
(http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j478/themason73/jerryrobbieandbirdie008-1.jpg)

I think the figure is from Warmacre, again coloured in rather well by Majorsmith.

I have also found some other figures that will make the 'free transfer' from 1925, I just need to go back through my photos and find the ones they posed for.

Thanks, Brummie!

Here are a few more that will be making the transfer from 1925:

The Asylum was active in the twenties under Dr Hugh Jarse.
Now they have returned under the leadership of his Grandson Dr H.J. the Third.

THE ASYLUM!!

Dr Hugh Jarse and his Assistant ‘Reginald’
(http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j478/themason73/jerryrobbieandbirdie017.jpg)

Jarse's Assistant, Dr Dixwith-Naychure, and his Guards

The Guards with Guns
(http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j478/themason73/asylumstaff007-1.jpg)

All sorts of mad experiments have been conducted over the years by the Asylum who are now, in the year 1975, reliving their earlier 'glory days' and attempting to revive their old tactics and attempting various nefarious schemes that the results of which will then be sold to the highest bidder.

The Crazy Creations...

The Maniacs...

...and, finally, the Previously Dead.

'It's Alive!..'

As part of the resurrection project for 2015 I shall be bringing this thread back from the dead.

In the next few months I intend to get an Asylum and plenty of new Staff and Inmates ready and useable for gaming in June (if not before).
The figures will be posted later, but I have enough of those already from various manufacturers including Oshiro, LAM and my own.

The Asylum itself will be sent to me soon by lobo, whpo built this but does not have the time to finish it so I bought it off of him for just this purpose.
Here it is:

A small update to show the figures that I intend to use for this.
A right old mixture consisting of Oshiro Sailors (which will need a bit of greenstuffing before they can become the Orderlies), some LAM, and a spattering from Artizan, Hasslefree, Tengu, Mongoose, Westwind and some Meridian heads

They may not all be used as I do have other plans for the Oshiro Naval Officer types and the Hasslefree may be a little large, but we shall see.

The greenstuff work on the orderlies will be the first thing to be done, at the weekend....
