Help! Can anyone suggest minis for this requirement?
I'm looking for some LARGE hounds to accompany a VSF/steampunk hunting party - something along the size of a deerhound or larger to represent the product of a mad scientist's experimentation to produce the ultimate hunting dog. I would prefer actual hounds rather than wolves (but if someone suggests wolf minis I like I may change my mind). The hounds can be 'normal', mutated or have steampunky/cyber enhancements. If you follow Girl Genius maybe think along the lines of sparkhounds.
I have already ruled out GW's 40k wolves (too large), LoTR wargs (also too large) and Chaos hounds (too mutated).

Warlord Games have a Warhounds pack in their Ancient Celts.

The big dog thread may have some that are suitable:

I was thinking of the MaxMini cyberhounds specifically, but for some reason they don't seem to be available (as yet, anyway) ???

Hi Bullshot,
the games workshop >:( Wood elf Orion comes with 2 wolfhounds that, when standing next to a 28mm figure are big! I'm going to use them with my 40mm border reivers!!
If you want i'll upload a size comparison picture next to a L/A steampunk figure?
There's also a German company that do some nice doggies including a wolfhound but I can't remember their name just now....i'll try and track them down later.
Hope this helps

See below, i don't know about figure comparisons however there's probably some online as most of these are used in Dark Age gaming (SAGA, WAB, Dux etc).

What about these guys? Pretty damned big but not insanely so.

I've got five Mastiffs that if my memory serves came from Vendel, they're some big lads and a couple look suitably ferocious, no leads or harness either! any good?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think Dean's suggestion of the Northstar warhounds is the nicest a set of normal hounds to what I've seen so far.
Thinking about this a bit more, what I really want is 2 or 3 large hounds with big teeth and fur manes (rather than full body fur like wolves). Any thoughts?

How about the lions from a high elf chariot kit - definitely have manes and teeth !

Once we were discussing Baskervilles hounds (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=25429.0), which is a good start for slightly unnatural canines. Reaper (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Hound/sku-down) has a couple of options with varying levels of weirdness. West Wind is just releasing one for their EotD Requiem line. (No mane, though.) Then there's Ral Partha with ork (http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/18027-ork-handler-with-2-ork-hounds-p-1076.html), hell (http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/01038-hellhounds-3-different-p-1228.html), bio-mech (http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/40415-rad-hounds-2-p-2306.html), war (http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/01028-war-dogs-4-master-p-1220.html) and other breeds. Just search for "dog" and "hound" everywhere...
