Title: IHMN Steam Dynamo question
Post by: sigma957 on 23 August 2013, 09:06:38 PM
Probably this needs to be answered by Craig, but here goes...

The Magneto-static projection barrier requires a power source.

Normally I would use a Steam Dynamo.

However I was planning to put it on a Mechanised Walker, which is already powered by a Steam Dynamo.

Do I need to purchase another to power the barrier, or can it be powered by the existing one ?

In a similar vein are the Steam Hansom/Carriage powered by a Steam Dynamo ?

The way I read it: No.
All it needs is a power source. If you already have a power source then you're okay.

But that's only haw I see it.

Okeydokey, we're in one of those shadowy pockets in the rules now  o_o

When we wrote the rules we envisioned that the Magneto-static Projection Barrier, as it is a continuous effect, required an Arc Generator to power it. The power required for the radius of effect being too much for a portable steam dynamo. We also saw it as being something that stayed static.

We did not imagine that someone would want to 'raise shields' on a Walker  lol  There's nothing as devious as bloody players!

Note that the only other electric device on a Walker is the option for an Arc Cannon on the Kaiser Wilhelm. The Steam Dynamo on this does crank up its capacitor recharger, however, it can only fire every other turn unless within the radius of an Arc Generator.

NB: The Magneto-static Waistcoat and Umbrella run off integral batteries.

So in summary...

The Magneto-static projection barrier requires an Arc Generator

and

I am devious

I can live with both of those.   :)
