Hello together,
I always planned to do a 28mm Hordes of the Things Army. Now it is the time to do exactly that. As always I have lots of ideas, miniatures and plans for each project.
To give 28mm HotT a start I go for the dwarfs. I have quiete a lot of the old 80´s Citadel dwarfs from the Perry twins and I really like these chaps as they are really full of character.
OK here we go:
2 bases of "Blades" and a "Hero" base; 2 bases of "Warbands" (my plan is to use the dwarf adventurers, thiefs etc. as warbands)
-
And here are the pics of the two bases of warbands:
-
I have a few of those minis kicking around. Nowhere near as nicely painted as yours though. Such great minis.
-
They are all lovely I really wish I still had all mine that I sold way back. Superb all of them :D
-
Those are sweet. Very inspirational....
-
I have a few of these minis!
Wonderful painting, makes me very jealous!
-
Superb painting.
-
Lovely sculpts, great brushwork with excellent freehand on those shields.
What more could you want?
Simply gorgeous.
:-*
-
;D
Great stuff- what base sizes have you gone with?
-
That mule is really really nice!
-
Lovely painting. I primed my Chaos & Empire HoTT armies yesterday in anticipation of autumnal painting, although as they're made up largely of Battlemasters mini's I doubt they'll look as nice as these.

Dr. M, wonderful paint jobs on IMHO the best dwarf miniatures ever. Especially love the 2nd warband base, the dwarf with the map is superb!
-
You've got some GREAT Little Characters there, Doc. Your brushwork has brought them to life WONDERFULLY & the bases make them into gaming vignettes. VERY WELL DONE!
-
They really are great! I love the heraldry on the shields and banner! Awesome!

Hi Dave,
I use 60mm x 40mm for nearly all infantry troop types and 60mm x 60mm for cavalry, hordes, artillery etc. Using smaller depth than 40mm does not really look great for 28mm miniatures I think.
A very great blog on 28mm HotT has a guy called Tim from Canada, from which I got lot of inspiration for myself, espacially for basing my minis.

I'm a big fan of your work too. Love your old school minis.

Many many thanks to all you guys for writing these great comments.
It is a pleasure for me to show you more of my work soon.
Thanks

And here we go with more of the dwarfs for HotT.
This time with an airboat on a 60x60mm base:
-
A few days ago I won an online auction for this sweety (and still in blister ;D)
It was a 'must have' for me because he will be my "Behemoth" base for the army.
How cool is that, a dwarfen robot as my Behemoth... :D
-
GREAT STUFF! The Balloon is a WONDROUS creation...BEAUTIFULLY painted to boot; I love the way the checkered pattern blends with the attached shields. The Group Portrait shows the Vertically Challenged Gang off SPLENDIDLY. VERY WELL DONE!
Congratulations on the successful auction. I had the blow torch wielding Dwarf years ago, but I never saw the Tin Man before. Have FUN with the painting et al!
-
Very nice dwarfs... some of my all time favorite figures.
-
This a cute little army. DBA got me into historical wargaming, and HotT is perfect for fast play fantasy.

Absolutely fantastic, can't wait to see the tinman!
-
Absolutely wonderful minis, Alex! Unfortunately I completely missed this in August, but it really deserves a little bumping ...
Some more on the workbench?
:-* :o :-*

Big giant smile inducing work :)
-
Really an incredible army, just top notch! That robot will add another layer of greatness. Keep up the great work!

Many thanks Michael :)
I've finished two bases of crossbows (shooters) and a boltthrower (artillery). Will make some pictures and post them in the next days.
With this three more bases the army is nearly finished pointwise for Hott.
But I will do some more as I can also use them for Kings of War in the future.

Too bloody right it does as I somehow missed that balloon!
:o :o
That is simply stunning, Doc.
I love it!

This is such an inspirational thread that I found myself bidding for and winning an Imperial Dwarf Cannon and crew recently.
Now I want a Tinman!
What have you done?

These are fantastic but don't open the blister lol!!!

These are fantastic but don't open the blister lol!!!
Some might laugh but I wanted to open it for several times and always felt like open the chest of the noble pandora...So I stopped... lol
I know it's crazy but the blister is still untouched.

Wow what a great project!
I love the dirigible!

and what an awesome collection on top of it all!

Hello Gentlemen
thanks for the great comments and compliments.
Today is update day on LAF and I will post the next three bases of the HotT dwarven army. This brings it nearly to an end as I only need two more bases for the army. Though I think it will go on in the future somehow.
Enjoy the boltthrower (artillery) and two bases of crossbows (shooters).
Hope you like them.
Cheers

I really should not be looking at this thread, though.
You know what happened last time....

You do not need too much minis for a HotT army Mason and you already have a cannon now... :)

I now have a Tinman and my first major group of recruits arrived today.
Enough to get started, at least.

You are a bad man, Dr Moebius!

Mine too!
Hence why I have gone and fallen for them again..... ::)

Just noticed the great Heroes for Wargames tribute on the shield of one of your blades way back. Really great work. These multi-bases make me want to play HotT.

You´re right. I have shamelessly stolen the shield design from the dwarf in that book. So if you call it a tribute that sounds far better lol
By the way the book is fantastic isn´t it? Pure Old School.

Bloody nice, Dr! I've always wanted to get into HOTT, but could never get through the rules. =/ I like the generic one-list element based thing though... leaves more room for imagination as regards to the miniatures than the min/maxing of army lists.
-
great work!
-
Wow! :-* 8) :-*
-
Fantastic, great colour schemes
-
Yeah !!!!
The colorscheme is outstanding.
Great painting and besing too.
