Up until now I've always been doing "vanilla" minis, but I fancied a go at doing something different. I took a couple of Heroclix, stripped the paint and tried some very simple conversion work, just to see if I could. Some results I'm happy with, some less so. Below are my three test subjects.

This is originally a Daredevil figure, I simply cut off the small baton and replaced it with a needle cut to size, turned out pretty much as I wanted.

Originally an Abe Sapien mini with Hellboy's cut off sword. Turned out ok.

An Iron Fist mini with the dragon from a different Iron Fist mini. Not too happy with the paint job though.
Anyways, they were my first attempts after all and HC's are very easy to work with.

Not a bad start, the first one out of three is best. I would keep working on he other two, they are not bad I just think you stopped a bit short of finishing them. Practice is the best means to learn, plus you could always strip them and repaint them again!

I agree, I am mostly dissatisfied with the third one, hard to get a nice white colour when you use black undercoat (and the blue shading didn't work out as planned...). The second one I might add black trim on the trunks. I never do any complicated painting, usually only a base colour with an ink wash.

The best thing about HeroClix is the ease with which you can cut and glue all the different pieces together.
Your paint job on the first two look fantastic.

White harder colors like red, white and black...I usually have to do several layers or a darker foundation color (like grey before the white) first...then build it up....as for the blue, you have a good idea, I would pencil in the symbol, then paint it black, then paint the blue over it.....

Yes, white seems difficult to get "right", and I don't use white basecoat... I guess I just have to more patient with that colour, same goes for yellow.
The idea with the blue wash over the white was to give it a bit of different tinge (I did another mini a while ago that turned out pretty ok with that combo).
Guess I will strip that paint off and try again.

A white a like that I have found:
Citadel Uthuan Grey, takes about two to three thin layers to get it right unless you use a darker grey.
Foundry Artic White: comes in a 3 pack, you may like their paints, base color and two highlights in each pack....very much worth the price.
