Cernunos holding a rams horned snake :o
Sweeeeet!!!
-
On it. :D
I've already pre-ordered the book Nick, have you got your list of 'usual suspects'? As I'll order one of the deals too, but obviously don't want two rulebooks.
Hope you hit the £8000 mark. ;)
-
Will some of the minis be available separatly cause would like some, like the hercules and mummy figs to use in other games as well??
-
Looks good, I will have to see what I can afford!
Will there be any deals involving free or discounted shipping for us international folk?
-
Hi Ray
We've got you on record, so if you order a deal we won't charge you twice for a rulebook.
Saw you across the hall at Partizan, but you'd gone before I coudl say hello!
Nick
-
Nick
How many points is Cu Chulainn? Cernunnos has rather inconsiderately stood in front of his points value! lol

I thought that would be the case, but thought I'd check. :D
Apologies for not dropping by to say hi. I'd come by earlier in the day but you were in an in depth discussion with another gent so I didn't want to interrupt or cause a bottle neck. I'll hopefully be at Derby so will catch up then. :D
-
Hi,the Pictures of sample Armies i see square and round bases, later pretending one sort or does no matter?

A Nickstarter is a program that we have for building pre-orders for a new product, giving you free figures, discounts and free postage.
I'm pretty sure postage is free wherever you live.
-
I've been waiting for this eagerly. Ordered the 'one of everything'
Plus plastic celts and greeks. I've been needing an excuse to
Buy victrix Spartans for a while :-)
Regards
Jim
-
I'm waiting to see those Fomorians!
-
How often does the nickstarter page get updated?
It's currently only showing £95. I know that isn't
Correct, just from what I've spent alone

You've seriously piqued my interest by using that photo as the teaser for the Fomorians! maybe a Balor figure next?
It looks like there's no way to get anything less than 4 or more than 1 of the ltd edition figs without buying multiple rule books?
I'm waiting to see those Fomorians!
-
The total update is manual, we have not included any sales that have come in this afternoon (thats you Jim). The next total update will be Monday lunchtime.
The Fomorians are not new figures, they were originally made by Fantasy Forge, if you recall them?
Nick

Cheers Nick!

I want to see them too. Can't find pics of them on the net.

I'm liking this figure to help out the Norse:

Fomorians, evil priestess and sorcere look wonderful !! :-* Any other not-Slaine references to come ? Any 'evil warlord on deer', besrserker or whatever planned ?
-
The Cu Chulainn fig. Any pics of him? (and will there be an Ukko?)
-

Nick
Whatever happened to their Celts? They were Roy Eastland (or Kev White?) sulpts if I recall correctly. Superb sculpts.
-
aah, these guys! very nice. :)
Got Slough Feg too then?

Yep, got the Celts as well.
-
I'm in for a set, if such a set is available! Fomors, priestess, Feg. Probably pony up for the Celts too! If Cuchulainn is the one pictured, I've got him already, but I have to say, I'm pleased that someone picked up this lovely line of minis. Thank you!
-
I've been waiting for more than 3 months for these rules to be released.
I'm planning to field a Norse Dwarf warband and a Fomorian warband.
This is my Balor, a Hordes Skorne Cyclops Shaman:
-
I picked up some of the Roy Eastland Celts from the Cahp at Midlam miniatures they were from one of his projects he never finished so was selling them off. They fit perfectly with the Celtos range
-
Cuchulainn is a brand new Steve Saleh figure. The figure in the photo is a Foundry Slain figure that we used to put the initial warbands together. We'll be photographing our Cuchulainn this week.

Dang, Nick - quit keeping us on the hook here! >:(
-
This is my Balor, a Hordes Skorne Cyclops Shaman:
Great choice, arjunstc!
:o
-
Thanks, Admiral. :D
I can't wait for him to lead my Fomorians in battle!
-
Can I ask a question about the rules, anyone know if mortals
can field cavalry units?
I'm painting some Celt cav at the moment and would like
To use them for OGaM.
Regards
Jim
-
Can I ask a question about the rules, anyone know if mortals can field cavalry units?
Some can – it depends on the Pantheon and the unit type. Some are mounted as standard, some can be upgraded to mounted troops (as is the case with the Celt Nobles).
-
The more I read about this new rules set - the more I am tempted to start a new project. I'll be looking out for some more info. when I visit Colours this Sunday, but very tempted.

Well, Smith answered your question, but from what I have read you can basically stat up any character/unit using the points system given in the rules.
What I really like about the whole concept is that you can just take any of the historical/fantasy armies you already own (and like), add a 40mm figure as a god, a few heroes and monsters, and you are ready to go!
I'm now very tempted to add a Trojan or Egyptian warband, but I keep telling myself I should wait until I've actually seen the rules and played a game or two before I buy more figures!
-
Thanks very much Smith and arjunstc, excellent news.
The Celt and spartan foot I ordered from northstar arrived
Today, so I've made a start on those as well, I'm hoping
To pretty much have the Greek and Celt wargames mortal
Foot ready to go by the time my rules, gods and legends turn up.
I should be able to get 2 completed factions ready to go in
short order once they arrive.
I've loved all Andreas 'song of....' Rules so far, so I'm looking
Forward to OGaM very much

Nick, Osprey has a 30%off-offer this weekend on all books, ebooks and pre-orders, including OGAM!? I'm a bit annoyed about this as I already pre-ordered the book on your site with one of your offers. Will we get this discount as well?
-
The Book Depository is almost always cheaper than retail (and free P&P always):
http://www.bookdepository.com/Gods-Mortals-Mythological-Wargame-Rules-Andrea-Sfiligoi/9781780968490
-
Osprey offering 30% off a book not out yet is rubbish, I agree. Asking me for the discount is slightly petulant though, maybe I would if Osprey gave me an extra 30% as well?
In regards the book depository, and Amazon in fact, I've gone over this before on LAF. We all like discounts of course, I'm no different, but I'd ask customers to think about where that money goes. You may save £3.60 buying your OGAM from the BP, but the money you spent with them disappears into a black hole of shareholders and in the case of Amazon non-tax paying shareholders. When you buy a copy of OGAM from me, the profit from that book goes into the fund that pays Steve Saleh to make more figures for the games, it pays Kev Dallimore to paint the figures, design the box sets and write modelling articles about them, and it pays someone to cast the figures ;).
I think the £3.60 extra is a small price to pay to keep that money in your hobby.
Going back to the subject of buying from me or elsewhere, we have said all along you can request a refund at anytime before the release of the book and figures, no arguments.
-
I can't see how book depository can afford to do it realistically.
I worked in the book trade for a few years ( and my old boss
Is now In charge at book depository, coincidentally).
Except for Amazon, almost all retailers only get a 30-35%
Discount from the publishers. So for anyone except amazon
( who due to their bulk buying muscle get better terms) to
Run that sort of discount has to be a loss leader.
On a different topic, more OGaM figures ordered nick!
Regards
Jim
-
Hear, hear Nick :)
-
Nick,
I'm with you on this one! Now tell me how to order not-Feg and I'll buy in!
-
For myself as an Antipodean, Book Depository have been a lifesaver. Discounted books AND free postage. This usually saves me around 50% of the final cost of buying elsewhere. :o
When I lived in the UK I supported local businesses. I ordered online and was ok with a pound or a few for postage.
Currently I do not have the luxury of doing so. A weak exchange rate, low salaries and postage rates that leave me expecting to get not only a box of figures but to have them delivered (and painted whilst I watch) by Steve Dean!
In all fairness none of this is the fault of Nick or any other retailer. Nick's arguments are good ones and for the most part I completely agree. Nick is also one of the few retailers who removes the VAT when sending figures to me - and hats off to him for doing so.
Wherever possible I will continue to support Nick and other outlets (it is easy when it is obvious he supports us!) as long as I am not committing financial suicide to do so.
-
Feg. He'll be on offer soon. I'm thinking of making him available to buy, but also sent free to Nickstarter customers who've spent X amount with us.
Same with lady mighty thighs.

-
When are the old 'rank & file' Celts being re-released Nik?
-
After OGAM.
-
Wow--the whole some figures from here, some from there, some available to buy singly some not, aspect of this is starting to really confuse me.
So those Fomorians are from the Fantasy Forge range? And the Feg figure is available with the Celt deal and nothing else? And the yet to be seen Cuchulainn figure will be available with the Celt range and not singly?
It might be useful to start cross-linking on the website to know what figs from which range could go with what.
-
brilliant more please Nick and that lady is awesome.......

Couple of the Celt Legends photographed, Cu Chulainn and the Banshee.

The Cu Chulainn figure gives me the warp spasm! :o
I want to see the pharaoh's chariot, Nick! Please!

Both very nice!

I'd second the first-page question about the bases since I didn't see it answered, does it matter if they're square or round?
-
From an earlier thread:
Q: Does it matter if you use round or square bases for your forces?
A: Not at all. The rules do suggest using square bases for close-order mortal units (so they can rank up), but that's nothing that can't be achieved with round bases if you prefer.
Some of my forces are on square bases and some on round - I am using movement trays.
Close-order foot are on rectangular trays. Skirmishers are on a movement tray the size of a CD, from what I have learnt.
-
Ah thanks, didn't think to find any earlier threads. :?
Seems like my WarGods guys are going to be usable here then.
Now I just need to find me a 40mm catgirl figure to act as Bast...
-
I think this Reaper miniature may do the trick?

Fixed link.
-
Wow, there actually is a miniature for that. :o
Thanks guys, that should definitely do the trick.
-
Not sure how big exactly it is, but it's meant as a statue so hopefully it is bigger than 25/28mm; in any case she looks regal.
-
After looking at the army lists on the Northstar site I decided to get a couple of valkyries for my Norse dwarf warband...

I checked the Nickstarter website and found the "SPEND TOTAL £01383.89 towards our £45,000 goal". Is this the current preorder total, or is an update due? If actual, there isn't even the first spend goal in sight, and the project will end on Oct. 20th. Is there any marketing plan beyond the static website and some new miniatures here and there? I'm just wondering because the goal was £45,000.
-
I suspect that like me, many are waiting for them to reveal all the figures on offer before ordering; I've already decided to get the Cu Chulainn and the Mummy figure, and am waiting for them to reveal the Pharaoh on Chariot before deciding if I want that too.
I agree that the buzz on this Nickstarter does seem less than that of IMHN though.
-
I'm gutted, because Nick wanted the big Thor model painted and I didn't have time to do it! Bah!
-
Well, they've hit 2000 and Odin will be produced. :)
I hope they hit Horus...
@Nick,
If you hit 6000 and the Horus figure is unlocked, can I have him instead of Set if I order the Egyptian Deal? Thanks.
-

Ahh, very good news!
:P

Came across this upcoming figure from the Godslayer range that might be useful:

Rule 63? lol
-

You can, but you'd have to appreciate we haven't even begun to design Horus, so he isn't coming out on the 20th of October. He'll probably be Christmas time.
Nick
-
Thanks, Nick.
I am quite sure I want the Greater Mummy and I would like to have the "regular" mummy but I reckon I need to order a Deal to get him since he is not for sale, and I don't want any of the gods on offer so far...
I would really love to see the chariot though!
-
Just dropped through my door ( in the UK).
Looks really nice and going to give it a thorough read
tonight.

Can someone give me a detailed list of what’s suppose to be in the "OGAMMEGADEAL - I just want everything!!" Of Gods and Mortals Deal ? I’ve receive a small packet from Northstar yesterday and it seem to be a little light on miniatures… and there was no book or any other accessories in the package I’ve received either… Look like some serious mix-ups happened with my order which is very, very unusual from Northstar…
Did I miss something? Did the OGAM Deal supposed to be sent in several parcels?
I’ve sent an email to Northstar but I’m still waiting for an answer…
Cheers! 8)
-
No one know?
-
Have you sent a PM to nicknorthstar on here?
-
Hello Calimero,
you are obviously not the only one who had a mix-up with your order. It happened to me also. I ordered the greek and the celt deal. But when I received my package there was twice the box of the god Ares but no box of the god Cernunnos inside. I wrote two E-Mails but in the first reply there was only an answer to my question about p&p-charge and nothing said about how to solve my problem with the missing box. Hopefuly we will get an answer soon. :)

I've sent three eMails to Nick... He replied to the first one but not the other two… must be the weekend in UK too! ;D
-
Nick and co have been at Crisis in Antwerp this weekend, I believe, so may well have not been on email – I'm sure they'll get back to everyone once they're back up and running.
-
Hurrah,
today I got a mail and hopefully a solution for my problem. 8)

Same here... I wasn't really worried, Nick always been a great guy to deal with 8)

Does anyone have views about the rules themselves yet? I have only flicked through them but they seem very tight. Some nice additions to SoBH especially the rules for Gods and Legends. I can see them transferring very well to heroic Fantasy.
-
I had a look at them, nice rules for warband sized games upwards. I haven't tried them out yet but they look simple to pick up.
The real advantage is the bit at the back allowing you to create your own pantheon so should you wish to have a fantasy Orc force in there you could create Gork and Mork and go from there.
I need to have a closer look to see if there would be a way of creating things like trolls but at the very least you should be able to do lists for Elves and other humanoids pretty simply.
-
The army builder in the book can, in theory, produce anything you want. Trolls are easy (p.56) if you want the Norse style. Otherwise, it really is just a case of building the concept you want with the 72 character traits in the book.
For a more GW-style Swamp Troll, I'd go with:
Q4, C2 (Mortal) – Standard mortal load-out, the difference is added with the Traits.
Amphibious, Big, Greedy – Classic troll traits. I'd also consider adding Shooter (Short) to model the vomit attack, but I've never much cared for it!
Points: 17
For a Rock Troll:
Q4, C2 (Mortal)
Armoured, Big, Hammering Blow
Points: 32
-
Thanks, those look like useful Trolls! :D
I have just dug out some old Black Tree Vikings, and a Late Roman based human fantasy army I was building, looks like I could quite easily put two quick forces together for this. Just need to decide on Gods!
-
Just remember that, when creating units, multiply the base cost by 2 for a Legend and 4 for a God.
Enjoy!
-
Looking at this with a sort of big picture view you could easil use these rules as a basis for super hero games as well.
I can see the likes of Hellboy being treated as a God with agents as the mortals and special characters as heroes.
-
Nick received my emails and will send the missing stuff soon. In the meantime, I’m eager to start painting the rank and file figures I’ve received and some legends... :D
Are the rules designed for a particular basing system? Which are the base sizes you use for the different types of figures? 8)
-
Not really, either round or square bases and I wouldn't think size is too much of an issue. Although I personally wouldn't go any bigger than 30mm bases for mortals, 25mm preferably.
-
Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of basing mortal on square 20mm bases to fit the (few) historical ancients figures I have here… somewhere in a cardboard box…
I was also thinking of basing legends, or at least the smaller ones, on 25mm round bases.
So it looks like I can start painting now… thanks again! 8)
-
No probs. It suggests basing Open Order (OO) mortals on round bases and Close Order (CO) on square, but the reality is that the close order simply have to rank up and the open order do not so base shape isn't really an issue.
It's also why I like the idea of 15mm or smaller on similar sized bases as you can probably depict CO and OO much better in this way.
That said, I am going the 28mm route because I have some Romano Brits and some Vikings already to hand to do battle! Just need to find some Gods!
-
That’s funny, the few "ancient" figures I own are also Vikings and Romano-British… although I have a handful of plastic classical hoplites coming my way soon 8)

That really is funny . . . . . . I just received my classical greek hoplites! :o lol
