Title: Churchills River War in german Newspaper
Post by: Poliorketes on 16 May 2008, 12:10:15 PM
Todays FAZ started the pre-print of "Kreuzzug gegen das Reich des Mahdi", first time translated into german and originally published in 1899 as "the river war". Author is Winston Churchill, who took part as a cavalry lietenant and fought at Omdurman.

All of Churchill's South African stories, as well as some of his Northwest Frontier stories and his history/memoir of the Sudan war were collected in an omnibus volume at some point - I borrowed a friend's copy several years ago now.

Can't remember the title, though - might have been something really dull and obvious like "Churchill's Early Years" or similar. Sorry. Great book, though - the man really could write!
