Title: ideas for clear bubble helmets ?
Post by: sundayhero on 10 September 2013, 06:39:29 PM
Hi,

I'm currently thinking about some new custom figures, I'd like to make clear lexan (or something similar) bubble-type helmets.

Anyone knows how to do that with common materials ?

thanks !

Have a look at some (web) shops that sell detailing bits for architectural model making etc. There are some fairly small acrylic domes available (roughly 10mm diameter). Depending on how big you want the helmets to be, they might work.

Blue Moon has these, but they won't sell them without the figure it looks like.  Is this similar to what you are looking for?

Yes, that's typically what I'm searching for !

The first weblink with these sheets of bubble reminds me medical drugs packaging.

Doubt they'll be including any happy pills though, guess it's just to show the different sizes available.
For 15mm stuff pill packagings actually might work.

Maybe I could make some cheap thermal forming using some kind of lexan packaging (like ham packaging, for example). I made some vacuum forming in the past (slot cars). Using a basic heat technic and a piece to push the lexan/clear plastic on...It might work.
