My buddies and I started a D&D campaign recently. It's my first time playing D&D, or any game where we've made significant use of miniatures, so it was an interesting one. The problem, however, is that we put our miniatures on a plain grid, and use whatever's laying around to make rooms. "Ok, these pencils are the walls, and this paint jug is the door". That's no good!
So this weekend, I decided to do a quick dungeon project. Well, quicker than other stuff I've built, anyways. Tedious, of nothing else.. I watched almost the whole first season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent while making these. 14 episodes =~ 12 hours.
Anyway, I took pictures of the finished works. The walls and floor are foam insulation, and the doors are textured plasticard on small MDF bases. I didn't have the foresight to do WiP shots while I was building it, sadly, so all you get is the finished product. Here are what I built:
4 x 6" walls
4 x 5" walls
4 x 4" walls
4 x 3" walls
5 doors
2' x 2' base
I set up a quick pair of rooms using most of the walls/doors. Here it is:

Nicely done - always nice when "quick" terrain projects turn out so well, isn't it?
-
Definitely!
And even though it's the fastest terrain I've thrown together, I'll bet it'll get the most use. :)
-
That looks very effective. Doesn't look that different from some professional terrain I've seen. The cow monster is quite scary to! :o
-
Yeah - those cows are vicious if you make them angry.
Reminds me of an old favourite - anyone else played "Battle Cattle" ?
BTW - nice work on the scenery.

Very nice very useable terrain... 8)
If I could just get my hands on some insulation foam. Sadly, it's not legal to use it (for insulation) in DK, and thus it's almost impossible yo come by >:(
I can only get styrolite which is the less dense version consisting of very small 'nuggets' pressed together (and it's NOT very useable for terrain :( ).
Well, at least I have found myself a source for foamcard..... :-I

That's very nice. I like the modular part of it and I just may steal the idea for my next dungeon crawl game.

I'm thinking now that I might need some bigger walls, so I might do up some 8" and 10" and maybe even 12" soon. If I do, I'll take some WiP photos and post 'em here.

That sucks! I recognize the stuff you're talking about, totally useless for terrain. :(

Nicely done. And yes, D&D and Dungeon Crawling are a lot more fun with something to look at.
