Hey all. I thought that I'd finally start posting some of my Superfigs minis. Been meaning to do it for a long time, but am fairly lame in some (some might say a lot of) areas.
Here are two that I really like (both Bob Naismith sculpts): The Fission and Particle.
-
PS. Sorry about the size - I'll try to scale down the next ones I post.
-
Very nice work
Regards
Jim
-
You should put them together as Fission - Chips!
lol
-
Nice work!
-
Great job on those! No easy feat painting Fission
-
Really well painted ! :-*
-
Great work on giving nice depth to the white.
-
Are you using them as Fission and Particle, or do you have other plans? I always like reading about peoples' ideas.
-
Thanks guys.
I actually haven't played the SS system in a long time. I'm much more into the painting aspect of the hobby. I do like the system, though, and the creator/owner is a friend of mine (and I actually designed a few of the figs - preliminary drawings).
Here's one of my favorites: Ox. Or, as I call him, The Battlin' Belgian!
-
When he speaks, Flemish subtitles appear...
Great character!
-
Very nice painting, and don't worry about the size of the pics - they work fine IMHO. :)
-
Jan, that amazingly painted blue dude is actually Dr. Halflife, not The Fission.
The Fission is this guy:
http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SF-ZB-19
Anyway, amazing paint jobs, as always!
--Scott
-
Yeah, Scott - I'd blame it on age, but you know that I could never get their names right...
Here's one for today that I DO know the correct name of, and he's one one of my top-ten favorite Superfigs - APE ACE!
-
When he speaks, Flemish subtitles appear...
Great character!
Actually, he's from the French-speaking part of the country - so subtitles en Francais!
-
And for today we have, what I believe is Cat (but I could be wrong on that...).
-
This is a guy whose name I can never remember (no big surprise there). In my mind, he hails from West Germany (circa early '80's), and was activated as a response to the perceived Soviet threat during the Cold War.
-
I think it is Manticore, but I could be wrong.
Very nice paintwork. :)
-
Yes - that's the name! Thanks for that and the kind words.
Here's The Siberian, or I as simply call him, Ivan. Former KGB agent, now turned super-instrument of the Soviet Special Task Unit. Nemesis to Manticore!
-
Great work!
-
Really well done!
-
Coolski!
-
The SuperFigs are very characterful sculpts and you're doing a great job painting them up. I keep passing over buying the Siberian, but I like how you've done it.

Yes, they are indeed very characterful. The majority of them were sculpted by Bob Naismith and Andy Cooper, both excellent sculptors. Bob is one of my favorites.
For today, I have another one of my top ten Superfigs - Glockroach! All evil corporations beware!
-
Awesome, I have never been able to find that figure locally!
-
Love the work on Glock-roach. :)
-
Lovely work here. Doctor Halflife is really nicely done in particular.
Have I seen these paint jobs before about a decade ago? Did Scott use these shots to advertise the Superfigs range with these models about ten years ago?
They look familiar, but I have looked at a lot of painted miniatures online in the interim, so I could be getting confused :)
Is Glockroach still available to buy anywhere? I would love to paint one.

Scott may have used one or two in his Superfigs adverts. I do know that he posted several on his blog. Most of these were painted much less than 10 years ago, with the majority being in the last five or so years, I believe. I also have several that I'm currently working on, and should be finishing up within the next week or two (depending upon time available to paint, that is).
As far as the availability of Glockroach, it's probably best to just email or send a pm to Scott himself. Glockroah is an awesome character!

I may have Glock Roach sitting around...
-
Next up is Supercharger (sans sidekick).
-
And Grannok-5...
-
The painting on Grannoks trousers is particularly nice.
-
If he was your first figure, I would say that you're off to a rocky start.
;)
-
LOL!
Thanks for the compliments, guys.
Here we have Perin. It's always fun to paint up the big guys.
-
Beautiful brushwork. You've got some lovely figures to put on the table there.
-
Thanks.
Here's the last of the ones that I have photographed. I've got a couple ready to go, and a few more in the pike (or "queue" for all you British - and possibly Europeans!). I forget this guy's name, as well, but it's a great fig, and lends itself extremely well to painting.

HAMMERTIME!

That would be Fireflight.
-
Thanks for the name-assist, Scott.
I finally got around to photographing Squat. I hadn't finished basing him properly, but finished it up. I decided to use a smaller base to accentuate his hulking exterior. Another one that was a lot of fun to paint!
-
Got to get that Ape Ace figure! :o. Can you tell me where he comes from?
-

I don't believe that Ape Ace is available individually. He comes with the giant Mecha Gor model: http://www.oldglory25s.com/view_product.php?product=SF-VH1
That may be the only way to get him. You can always ask Scott (fourcolorfigs here on LAF) about it.
-
Great work!
-
Really well painted :-*
Is there an european source for these minis ?
-
No idea ? :D
-
Well old glory uk can get them in to order but that's always been it? I think ;)).
-
Sorry for the late reply, but Com. Vyper is most likely correct. I myself have no idea of who would carry Superfigs in Europe. I suppose you could ask at a shop if they are able to order them for you.
-
Next up are the Mecha-Samurai. I painted these a looong time ago, but always hated the way I did the bases, so I pulled them out of their slumber, and tidied up the bases (still not happy, but the bases look much better now). I wanted to experiment with one color on each, and see how they would look together. They came out fairly decent, but could have been better.
Purple one:
-
Green:
-
Blue:
-
Red:
-
And last, but not least, Yellow (more like ochre, though...):
-
And here's a group shot:
-
I finally finished Devil's Knight, who had been languishing 1/3 done for probably ten years. He's a really cool fig, with a lot of character. At least you can't say that I never finish my projects...
-
I love the way you Power Rangered up the mecha ninjas!
lol
The Devil's Knight fig looks great. Wonderful shading!
-
I really like this minis range, and the way you painted them. Too bad it's seem a bit difficult to find in Europe.
-

Yeah - I have no idea who carries them in Europe. You could always see if any shops would order them through a stockist for you. I know that you're not near Paris, but there may be a shop there that would try to get them for you.
-
Here's one that I did a while ago, also. I was never really satisfied with how the purple color turned out, and have hesitated to post it. Regardless, I think that it looks OK.
Zoya:
-
Nice! You are making me want to buy more super miniatures!
-
And here's a group shot:
Brilliant!
One question, though. Are those back wings attached to the minis, or an optional separate piece?
-

I think I 'll just order a big amount of superfigs directly on old glory US estore one day. Probably when my urban table will be completed. It's often the best way to save shipping cost and taxes than just order a few figures each time from USA.
-
Brilliant!

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm nearly certain that they are separate from the figures.
-

Yes, that's probably the best thing to do. If I were traveling to France anytime soon, I'd bring some over for you, but alas, I just went there this Spring, and probably won't be back for another two or three years.
-
Well, the most recent one I finished is Kragg. A very dynamic (and fantastic) Bob Naismith sculpt. I actually had the base coat of his "skin" done for awhile (ie: "years"), but never liked it. I finally threw a couple of thinned washes and some subtle highlights on it, and it came out OK. The pics are too dark, so I apologize for that.
Also, I wanted to show a rear view - man, that guy has some massive lats!
-
Brilliant!

Yes, the backpacks are separate!
Nice work as always, Jan!
-
Thanks, Scott!
Now, can you put me on the same training regimen as Kragg?
-
Thanks, Scott!
Now, can you put me on the same training regimen as Kragg?
Plenty of minerals. Yuk-yuk. ;D
-
Here's the latest: Renegade cyborg T-34 (the Warbot). Escaped from his Soviet masters back in the 1980's, and has since become a mercenary, hired out to the highest paying client!
-
Great work, as usual, Jan! He looks awesome--if only the Tick would show up to battle him and save the life of President Jimmy Carter!
-
More beautiful brushwork. You host of super chaps is looking great.
-
Thanks for the kind words, people.
Next up I have two figs:
Dr. Simian and the Emerald Alien (who's not looking very emerald at the moment). I am not satisfied with Dr. Simian - I never was keen on the color of his fur, but also never felt like painting over it. So I grudgingly finished it after having it over half-done for about ten years (a pattern is emerging here). I just wanted to get it over and done with. Not my best effort, but it's still a great fig.
The Emerald Alien was a super-fast job that literally took me an hour to paint (which is most definitely a record for me). it was an exercise in dry-brushing light grey over a black basecoat (which I nearly always use). After that, all I did was a couple of washes and two painted highlight coats. That's it. The figure lends itself extremely well for rapid-fire painting. It won't win any awards, but will look pretty good on the table (or wherever you decide to put it).
-
Great work as always, Jan! I have painted each of those dudes at least 3 times a piece.
Dr. Simian remains one of my top 5 fav SuperFigs!
-
great work!
-
I just took a look at this thread.
Just a ton of wonderful figures.
Thanks for sharing.
-
Dance Party DJ: Oranguatan is cool!
-
I had always shied away from the Dr. Simian figure because it doesn't look that good in bare metal. I quite like the colour of the fur you've used. It's gone back on my to-buy list.
-
I do think that Dr. Simian looks better in "real life" than in pictures! I think that it is a great fig either way, though.
I finished the Red Bolt (who is actually painted red) last weekend, but just got around to photographing him. I think that the colors are actually a bit deeper and have more contrast on the actual fig. I really need to stop photographing my figs on a solid white background, I think. Regardless, here's the old speedster (a double-shot, 'cause he's so fast, you may miss him the first time...):
-
Nice the shading on the red turned out well!
-
Finally got around to photographing a couple more recently finished Superfigs.
First up: The Kilbots! They are excellent figs that can be easily used for pulp/sci-fi stuff as well as superheroes. They were easy to paint, but a pain to clean up. I wanted to make them fairly contrasty and beat up, and I'm pretty happy with how they came out. I could have spent some more time on them, but I acheived what I wanted, so I figured that I ought to leave well enough alone.
-
I also painted up Krong the Mighty. It was a pain, as I made the mistake in thinking that the fig would be easy to paint. It wasn't, and it came out too blue. I had originally wanted a cool blue-tone grey color, but the wash I put on it made it too blue. I'm also not particularly happy with the color palette that I used - it's a bit too monocromatic. My main problem in painting miniatures is simply deciding which colors to actually paint onto to the fig! All in all, though, I think that it looks OK (I did wimp out on the axe, though, and just painted it all silver with a touch of tin). So, after disparaging my work, I present it here to you all :?
-
Brilliant work, Jan! I love your Krong! And those Killbots are aces too!
-
Very nice work! Love it!
-
It is not Your Superfigs... It's Your WonderfullFigs!
:-*
-
One of my favorite figs... ever. Great paint job.
-

He's up there for me too. Thomas Scioli designed him, and Bob Naismith sculpted him. Bob also re-worked him into the still unreleased Star-Krong:
(http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r497/srpyle_1970/Star_Krong4_zps646c6da2.jpg) (http://s1168.photobucket.com/user/srpyle_1970/media/Star_Krong4_zps646c6da2.jpg.html)
One day I hope to get him and a few other unreleased SuperFigs into circulation.
-
Have flicked through this thread and discovered many very nicely painted and characterful minis :)!!! Think my favourites have got to be Ape Ace, Glockroach (love that figure!!!) and the others are not far behind.
Sterling work indeed!!!
-
I second that ! Now that we are at least 2 european customers, where's the european suppplier for these ? lol
-
Thanks for the kind words, gentlemen.
Scott - I had completely forgotten about the re-worked Krong! He's a really cool variant. It's unfortunate that the man made him cut his hair before he could join Star Fleet, though!
-
My most recently painted Superfig is not a currently available one. A few years ago (maybe a little longer - I'm getting old) I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a master of an unreleased Superfig - the Yeti Agent. He was a cool sculpt, but I wanted to re-do him more to my own tastes. So I decided to attempt to sculpt my own Yeti Agent. It's not my first sculpt, and I think that it turned out well enough that I decided I'd paint him up. I designed him loosely based upon one of my favorite characters from that long-lost (and fantastic) ccg On the Edge - Big Mitts. He's bit less ferocious than the original, and hopefully he comes across as more "non-violent" (although he still packs a hell of a wallop!).
Two sides of my version of the Yeti Agent, and one side-by-side with the original (but unpainted) one. Hope you guys like them both!
-
I do like him, be cool if I could snag one!
-
Here's the latest: the Alien Host Warlord Phaedra. I had her sitting around half-done for several years (no lie). Yes, a pattern has already emerged...
-
Lovely work, Jan! Jack "King" Kirby would be proud!
-
Two more figs, rather hastily done. I probably should have spent more time on each of them, but c'est la vie!
Here's Rigger:
-
...and's here's Tarantula:
-
Nice work!
-
Nice work, Jan! You need to buy me a large pack of those bases from Games Plus next time you go. ;)
-
Great work on the recent addition: Phaedra, Rigger and Tarantula are all very nicely painted. :)
-
After a long absense, I'm back with some more figs. Below is one that I had a lot of fun with, that ancient brawler Goradiator!
-
Nice work, Jan! Bring him and a few others to Steel City when you come later this month!
-
Scott, I most definitely will bring Goradiator (and retinue).
For my next Superfig, I present Max Megaton! He has harnessed the power of the atom to help the downrodden and the greater good of humanity!
-
I really like the paint scheme !
-
Thanks, gentlemen. I usually paint things in rather subdued colors, but I wanted to try to make Max reasonably "bright."
Next up before I take a short holiday is a great sculpt by, I believe, Bob Naismith (Scott - correct me if I'm wrong): John Henry!
I actually completed this fig in one sitting (still took most of the evening, though) - something that rarely happens for me. Probably could have spent more time on it, but I figured that it looks fairly decent.
-
Old John Henry is one of my favorites!
Superfigs are fantastic miniatures. I've been working on mine lately as well.
-
Thought I'd add another one to the pot....
Warlord Grom. He's a big fella...
I should have re-painted his bandolier to the green of the pouches, but didn't feel like doing that after I re-painted the pouches themselves (they were both originally the same tan color). Still, he was fun to paint (and relatively easy).
-
Lastly (for now), I present Shifter. Believe it or not, he's been on the bench half-painted for probably 7 years or more. I never really liked the colors that I used, and so I left him in stasis for a seeming eternity. I got tired of looking at him, and decided to finish him up. I'm still not totally pleased with the color combo (don't really care for the grey inside of the cape), but I think it looks fine overall.
-
I think the scheme works just fine.
Both those last two are great fun!
-
Shifter looks great. Nice job on that.
-
Nice color combo on Shifter!
-
Thanks, gentlemen!
-
Next up is Elasti-Ape! Super-cool fig. I decided to go with an unusual color combination (out of the norm) and I think that it works well enough (well enough that it kept me interested in painting it relatively quickly). That's two more apes down!
-
Love Elasti-Ape, and your warm colors make him look awesome!
-
I agree, great paint job! The color choices are refreshing.
