This weekend I played a demo of SAGA, Andreas was running a demo with his miniatures that he is painting up for the historical convention in Copenhagen which we are going to attend in November.
The short story is that I actually liked it, despite the core game being super simple - you have to accept it for what it is (a beer& pretzels game). I'm probably attracted to the modeling aspect the most as there are a bunch of interesting factions and I could always double warbands to be used in Brink of Battle if I want a more serious experience. From what I understand SAGA is all about the different factions and battleboards which both provide the flavor and differences but also the actual fun with a bit of resource management in order to pull off special abilities for your warband. The core rules can be learned in 10 minutes and I can see it being a perfect game for conventions.
Check my blog for a more detailed rundown of my experience and our demo game, as well as more pictures, over at my blog:
