As if I need ANOTHER project, but as one stops, more need to fill the vacuum! And I just couldnt resist SSS any longer!
Why is 'Old Shoreham' a good place to base PA games, or really any others? Well, 'Old Shoreham' has some features unique in all the world, and the convergance of all of these features makes 'Old Shoreham' PERFECT for my games.
So, why plan you next PA vacation to Old Shoreham?
1) Nikoli Tesla's last laboratory was located about 500 yards from my southside fence. There are tunnels that run under the property and in several directions. Some open out to the beach area. A photo-development company bought the property and dumped toxic waste in the tunnels and in waste pools. (Perfect breeding ground for my SSS Zeds!)
2) There is an inactive Nike Missile launch site across from the High School (Defensive areas, bunker?)
3) There is an active US Army Reserve base next to the High School and across from the Nike site. (Equipment, rival 'gang', etc)
4) A Department of Energy laboratory, with research similar in scope to the Cern, is located about 3 miles south. Many people who live in Old Shoreham work at this lab. (Use your imagination.... More zeds? Another gang? Refuge? 3 miles could be an AWFUL long way to travel depending upon what lays in between!)
5) Old Shoreham is located on an island about 2 hours East of the largest city in the US. (Even MORE adventuring possibilities, and effectively an endless supply of zeds and rival gangs!)
So, these 5 reasons are why you should plan your next PA vacation to Old Shoreham.
Ed note: NOTHING here was fabricated or exaggerated!

Yay...., great to see another project :D
What's the Old Shoreham connection? Intrigued, I am . ???
-
Shoreham is some town in England, I like the name a lot more than the one for my New England home town where I base all my modern P/A games :)
I figure for thematic purposes, having the familiarity of a quirky home cant hurt...lol
Cheers!

lol
Yeah I know Shoreham by name..... just couldn't figure the Dutch connection!
-
Not Dutch at all, I'm an expat... :)

I've been 'gathering supplies' for this project and then of course, got sidetracked to something else. But I'm always juggling a few projects anyways... :)
I was going to hold off on my WIP pics, but i'd really like to share some stuff.
First off, my SSS version of Joel and Ellie. Couldnt resist!
-
Done for now with these....
-
And now to a gatehouse that I bought for 20mm, but really fits 30mm better...
-
And the caravan/camper! The scale is a little wonky, but I think it works well!

I know that the Joel and Ellie are meant to be the two from the Road, but here's the thing, I LOVE to watch movies a few times, especially good ones. I so could not stand this stupid kid from the Road, I couldnt get myself to finish it a second time. I just kept thinking, "Ditch this A-Hole kid already!" I felt rather alienated from this particular character.... So there they sat, until Last of Us and you know, Ellie could pass for a pre-pubescent boy, especially in a coat and hood. So I took away the bear, gave her an M1911 and Joel a shotgun, and I'm pleased as punch with them. Yes, I like BRIGHT colors and will have a fairly different board than Herr Doktor (whose stuff is just brilliant!).....
Overall, I plan to have a more muted board set, like SI's, and then have the minis pop on the whiter landscape...

Great work Erik.
I like all I am seeing.
So, basically, your project is rewriting your favourite post apoc movies? ;)
:D

Shoreham-by-sea is the correct name, not far away from where I was created, (many years ago)...
My granny used to live there (very scary place in the 60´s)...
NYD

Actually you're thinking of 'the other Shoreham' :)
Our is;

And in Tesla's day, the part not far from my backyard was called 'Wardenclyffe'

But trust me, it's in the center of Shoreham.

Cheers Steve,
I think my post-apoc survival game centers around what I imagined as I fell asleep as a boy, 'what would I do if society as I know it ended.' I'm leaving the ideas a little open ended to be flexible. But I think my hometown has so many quirky and unique things perfect for PA gaming, i thought to start there. Besides, like authors advise, write about what you know!

Winter Joel and Ellie added!

And Joel

More inspirational stuff, how do the LAF figures scale to the Mojo ones, any chance of a shot of them together?

Cheers Mate! Likewise I'm sure :) You have a great project shaping up!
I think the mini's size well. Steve has a great line that I'm really crazy about, but it's also nice to add some fun personalities. Unfortunately not many mini's are done in winter gear....just got lucky here. But I added a pic, so tell me what you think?

They look good to me, people come in all shapes and sizes, something we tend to forget when we scale figures for games. I saw a picture the other day of a group of sports women ranging in size from a bit under five foot for some gymnasts, to well over six feet for some basket ball players and with body shapes that went from super svelte to I'd not want to get hit by her as well. :)

Excellent Project.
Have you read the book 'The Road' or just the movie. The book I think explains a bit more about why the kid is important

Thanks BT! Didn't even know there was a book.... I just couldn't stand the kid from the film, never made it to the end. I was just pleased as punch to use him as Ellie!

Great comparison shot there Too Bo Coo, mighty helpful! ;)
-
Yes quite helpful to see a comparison.
TBC, The Orange down jacket looks great, nicely coloured with complementary opposite colour blue used underneath. I think it makes the figure rather striking.
Cheers
Matt
