Title: 25/28 mm Star Trek TOS
Post by: Red Shirt 1 on September 25, 2013, 02:26:13 AM
Hello,

I have slowly been working on a Star Trek TOS project in 25/28mm an d I was wondering I any one can suggest a source fro miniatures? I'm looking for federation and Klingon specifically,(technicians and civilians) I don't mind minor conversions but I don't want to re-sculpt them myself ;)

I have come across the usual suspects suspects:

Matakishi's beautiful Starship crew
Various figures from the RIM Alien's by Space Vixens
Victory Force's Miniatures Spacefarers

I have some of the old Mega Miniatures Bridge Crew but they have sold the molds and I haven't seen them resurface yet.

Does anyone know how i can get hold of some?

Thanks

I think Turnkey Miniatures (http://www.turnkeyminiatures.com/) has bought out Mega Minis - might be worth dropping them an email.

The only addition I can add is the old Star Trek Monopoly set with metal figures. The Minis are very thin, but you get the eight main characters in the set. You can find them on E-Bay, for ridiculous money unfortunately.

So, have you painted any figures yet? Pictures?

I just heard back from Craig at Turnkey Mini, he doesn't have them in his catalog. He asked around and found out that the molds had been sold to Goblinoid games 2 years ago, but they haven't put them into production :'(

Both 1st Corps and Eureka had some not TOS Star Trek figures at some point. Might be worth dropping either a line.

EDIT: They are these:

Seems to me like you can find the 7-figure pack somewhat regularly for a fairly decent price (<$20 USD), and individual figures can be found on eBay.

These are, of course, the versions from the JJ Abrams movies, so I don't know how useful they would be to the OP, but the costumes are pretty similar save for the more noticeably textured shirts, and if going for generic Starfleet crew rather than specific characters you could easily repaint some shirt, hair, and skin colors to make them less recognizable as the movie characters.  You could even do some easy conversions to make some of them into Vulcans, Andorians, etc.

Thanks guys will let you know once they are available again

I might repaint the shirts in red, blue and yellow as I am not sure about the green the idea was to move away from the obvious Star Trek use as I thought people would get what they are anyway

Now I think the coloured shirts would work better

So will these casts be as difficult to assemble as the last ones? I'll still get them either way, as I have a love-hate relationship with these figures. I was just hoping maybe you'd improve them somehow.

Hi Michka

Sorry they will be pretty much as they were apart from the removal of the badges as I think the badges take them a bit close copyright wise

On the bright side I did think about expanding them by using the original bodies and adding fixed arms & heads to make up some new one piece castings

This will of course depend on how well they sell but it is something I would like to do

I'll still be buying some. As difficult to glue them together as they are, they're the best Not-Trek figures available. The chance to get new arms is really cool. I have a lot of your Federation Troopers already and I'm damn impressed with the quality you produce, so this is all good news.

Course, not sure how postage will work out for the UK. We're ALL whining about how shippage cross pond has been getting both more dear AND just a pain in the arse.

Ebay has been especially painful. Buying stuff from the US seems to go through some expensive shipping service now where you also have to pay import duties up front.  >:(

There's also Victory Force Miniatures Spacefarers line.  Look to be mainly TNG but there are some uniforms that look more like TOS movies rather than the show. Scale-wise, they should fit right in.

Hi Mac

Yes I would like to add some jumpsuited engineers probably a pack of three but I will have to discuss it with Brian as it depends on what sculpting jobs he has on at the minute

Also I am pretty tied up getting the alien shock troopers ready at the minute as well as some 20mm projects so it is probably going to be a couple of months from now

If people are interested in funding them via a pre-order similar to the aliens let me know and give me some ideas on what else you would like to see
