Ah, Yes.. You read the title correctly...
That damned Fritzy fella has got me interested in VSF, so I thought I'd put my own "slant" on things by building a steam powered chop....
It's got a low slung rear boiler set-up, solid suspension and trick leather upholstery and does 0-25mph in 40 seconds!!!!

(Size Comparison with "MALAMUTE" LIMITED EDITION 28mm MINI)
I think a nice black and brass colour scheme is in order... I'll post some pics when it's painted.

Very cool! Can't wait to see it with paint added. :o
-
40 seconds? Come on, you're using some kind of ethanol engine to achieve that!
Nice job!
-
That's fantastic. Got a pre-basecoat picture? I'd love to see the component parts. What did you begin with?
-
genius !!! I love it !!
go paint it now hurry !
-
I can see a Hotwheels bike under there with what looks like a plastic barrel on the back. No idea on the rest though. Go on, how's it built?
-
Very nice.
-
Thanks for the comments!
It's only now that the primer has dried I've noticed quite a lot of mould lines ( Bummer....) :(
Unfortunately I dfidn't take any pics before I base coated it but :
Parts wise it is indeed a Hot Wheels drag bike with the rear wheel removed and a GW barrel wedged in the back ( finished with a hatch from some WW2 1:72 kit). The wheels are from an old Corgi vintage car, the pistons are some strange chrome parts I had in my bits box ( possibly off a revell truck kit) with some steel wire pushers, the hand-brake is a Diff-gear off a 1:72 armored car ( the top is one of the original handle-bars from the bike.)The handle-bars are from a snotling pump wagon (weird huh!). The headlight is scratch-built and the rear lanterns are spare bits from a Pegasus building kit. The seat base is from a 1:32 M113 and the seat back is part of a canopy from an AT43 Walker. Finally the stack is an axle from a 1:32 anti-tank gun ( un-known). The rest of the bits are just odd scraps from a multitude of old kit sprues!!!!
I'm converting an "Isembard Kickass Brunel" mini from Ramshackle games to go with it. :D

Amazing job. I love it. :-*

And people say I make models difficult to replicate! ;D
Looks great!

Respect
-
Splendid piece of work! Keep the ideas flowing.
-
Thats an amazing piece of work. I like the colour scheme you mentioned to. :o 8)
-
It'l need a red leather or velvet seat ala The Time Machine.
-
Awesome idea. I knew you couldn't resist the lure of VSF, eventually you have to succumb. Everybody does lol
Just for the record, thats not a Westwind figure. Its a Malamute limited editon young Dracula :)
-
:o Well Done, great job Mate, when you were talking about this on Saturday I was once again proven right, You're not quite right. The chop turned out excellent, can't wait to see it painted. Now to talk you into converting that huge walker to steam power (ha ha ha)
Cheers
Fritzy

The word "unique" is bandied around far too frequently, but this marvellous machine is just that!
Brilliant concept, superbly executed :-*
I am deeply envious & depressed by my own lack of talent :(
-
Now listen here young Fritzy, that large walker is for Weird War II........although I have found a boiler which is spot on for scale.........Arrghh!
Malamute: Er, sorry about that. I assumed it was a Victorian Gentleman from Westwind. My post has been altered to that effect. :D
Gluteus Maximus: I am honoured by your comment. It makes the last 30+ years of trying to get things out of my head and onto the games table worth while. Cheers mate!!! :)

Scratchbuilding at its best!

Wow, that is really awesome!
Looking forward to seeing the painted version!

Finally finished my Steam Powered Chop!
I've modded a IK Brunel mini from Ramshackle Games as a pilot.
Hope you like it!

Thats just brilliant PM :-* Mad, but brill ;D
-
Very cool! 8) Love the colour scheme. But, are you sure that Man was meant to travel at the speeds this monster will generate? Why, it must reach 20 mph, at the very least! :o
-
Fantastic, really looks the part and the perfect driver too. :)
-
Fantastic. :-*
-
OH man, thats gorgeous. Love the conversion on the asskicker model too.
-
Looks great. Hey. how'd you make the flared thingie on top of the smokestack?
-
Wow - stunning work PM - inspiring. 8) 8) 8)
-
The final result has more than lived up to the initial promise. I love the black and gold paintjob - very Victorian :)
IK Brunel is perfect as the rider. That hat looks so incongruous on a motorbike that it's inspired. The firearms are a great improvement too.
All in all, probably the best VSF model I've seen all year.
-
Vary nice
-
Wow that is great. I love the colour scheme and the rider model. ;)
-
Blimey Charlie!Love it! :-*
-
Thank you all for the comments, I've really enjoyed building this little beasty and I'm glad you like it!
The unfortunate side-effect is that I'm now looking at models and thinking " I wonder what it would look like with a steam boiler...........?" :D
This VSF is very addictive!!!

I take my top hat to you Sir. That is a most splendid looking model and the most inspired use of Isembard. :)
As you say VSF is very addictive ;D
-
Great stuff.
Simple and effective colour scheme which has given me an idea for the Impervious Suits Malamute and I are scratching our heads over.
-
Well, I must chime in too. Excellent model, loads of character.
-
Wonderful! Van Helsing would give some bodyparts for this one...
-
Stunning :o
-
Perfection! I love it.
-
Yeah, wow really great work! Amazing conversion work there.
Nice meeting you at Games Expo, I had a good time.
Funilly enough though, my sculpt looks a bit unbalanced with IKB when you remove his HUGE gun!
-
A most splendid use of the mundane Hot Wheels drag bike. I love the way it all comes to gethere with the paint job. The skills of the people here at the LAF are simply amazing. I'm inspired to try and finish my near-future version now. Pictures promised if I can ever get a new camera. :?
-
Just saw the finished product.
Now that's just genius :) .
-
Incredible looking job on that Papa Midnight. Wow. :o
-
Thanks you all again for the comments. I'm really glad you like my conversion! :D
Yeah, wow really great work! Amazing conversion work there.

Thanks Curtis, it was nice to put a name to a face aswell!!!
I see where you are coming from Re: the balance of the mini. I tried to off-set it with the Elelephant gun ( maybe I should have used a bigger one!!). Originally I was going to have him off the base totally and leaning on his bike ( foot up on one of the pistons) but I wanted to keep him and the bike playable.
Hope the Expo went well for you!

Where has this been all my VSF-y life? :o :-*
I.... I... I'm gobsmacked. That is one of the best conversion jobs I have ever seen.
Wow.
Mind if I post the pics of it in my VSF fanzine? I can just see it as an advert for IKB Motors or something...

Oh dear, nobody better show him the full thread (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=10689.0).
