A thing my buddy Rob (of this very board) suggested last year.
A simple thing; we have a weekly deadline of one or more Zombies or Survivors per week in October (which we renamed Zomtober accordingly).
We have 7 or 8 signed up so far, so if you are a blogger and want to get some Zeds or Survivors painetd but ahve been putting it off, then please join in! :D

I'm In (But you know that :D )
-
Ill have a look through my zombies and see if I can find five that float my boat. Could be fun :)
-
I don't have a blog blog. Just my workbench blog here on LAF. But I am up to the challenge.

With a Name like Dr Zombie - I would hope so!

Cool; if you give me your workbench thread link I will add it to the list. :)

Oh. I never get anything painted and fell out of blogging regularly ages ago. I could do with a kick in the arse to get something done!
Count me in!

a Zombie and a survivor a week or just one or the other?
-
a Zombie and a survivor a week or just one or the other?
One model a week for four weeks. That one miniature can be a zombie or a survivor. At least, thats how I read it.
Very achievable and a bit of fun I hope :)
-
Yep, one a week and take your pick which you paint! :)
Scale is no barrier. :)
-
We now have 14 confirmed and another hoping to do something. :)
-
This year I have got a bit carried away.
My son Charlie and I are going to paint enough figures for a game- 30 zombies and 12 survivors, between the two of us. We will paint one or two survivors a week each. The zombies will be divided up and painted in batches- I haven't ironed out the exact logistics with Charlie yet: he might paint the bodies while I paint the bases? Anyway, one way or another we will get loads painted and on the Blog.
-
I hope that I will receive the second season of zombizide and get started on that. As I am actually currently out of untainted zombies :o
But I guess I have a few survivors kicking about that can tie me over until more zeds arrive.
-
I think I can fit that in with my Army Painter Challenge unit that I am doing this month.
-
I think I can fit that in with my Army Painter Challenge unit that I am doing this month.
Cool; that puts us to 19-20 participants and counting.
Do you have a blog or LAF workbench thread that we can link to? :)
-
Can I just post them here?
-
Eh, it's a total tangent off what I was planning on painting in oktober... But hey, zombies!
I'm game.
http://modhails-meanderings.blogspot.nl/
I'm thinking mostly survivors, though. I tend to batch-job my shamblers, no fun in showing those.
-
Got my 1st one done! Boy with a bat from http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/847163926/zombie-plague-miniatures
I was going to do more but now Crissy will have to wait till next week.
-
Count me in. I've been on a roll lately with my survivors:

-
Can I just post them here?
To keep your updates easy to find, is it worth doing a workbench plog (like Dr. Zombie does)? :)
I can then link to that and your stuff will be clear from any other sign-ups. :)
-
Here is my first survivor.

More in the blog in my sig.

Ok, I'll give it a (head) shot....

I think it's cool that you all are doing this. Sadly (and somewhat surprisingly) even though it's October and I love Halloween, I just don't feel inspired to paint horror minis this month. :( I'll have to live vicariously through you all instead.
-
Are we supposed to post on Sunday or whenever?
-
That's what I understood, sunday or whenever... ;)
As long as you meet a "quota" of one per week.
-
Ive just gone though the 'slightly' arduous task of following every single blog that is taking part in Zomtober. Hardly even took an hour.
Off to paint some zombies now....

Where are we suppose to post our figures?

My fist submission for Zomtober.
1st up Timmy from the zombie plague http://www.rsquaredcomics.com/
They are really nicely sculpted miniatures and a must for zombie lovers.

This might even raise me from my painting slumber...... ;)
-
Wake up, wake up, wake up :D
-
I have yet another update in my blog. It's not exactly survivors and not exactly zombies, but they might still turn.. What could it be?
-
I just finished my first Zomtober figure:
She's Dionne (b) from the ever-wonderful folks at Hasslefree.

My first "Zomtober 2013" post - two Victorian Zombies for my "Zombie Mob" for Empire of the Dead.
So here we have "Dr Jackal and Mr Snyde" - Dr Harold Jackal was a respected Surgeon by Day, but by night he financed his Gambling addiction by Grave Robbing (with his associate Mr Snyde) and selling the cadavers to Medical Students around London. One day they crossed the wrong people, poaching on another "businessman's" turf, and ended up as the very product they were selling . . . .
Dr Jackal (on the left) is from the Empire of the Dead Zombie Mob set, Mr Snyde was a West Wind Promo Zombie Miniature.
More as I finish them!

I plan to paint some zombies and survivors in october and so i decided to join this event. and i like to show my first zombies and survivor models for Zombtober.

I got my first entry quickly finished ready to join the other cool stuff up here. Its a sci-fi figure but other than that its a pretty standard zed, the first proper zombie that I have painted since 2011 as it happens.
This is the blog post (http://sho3box.wordpress.com/2013/10/05/zomtober-2013-1/).

My first five (yes five!) figures are up on my blog. I promise all these have been painted since the 1st October by me and my monkeyboy Charlie. Check them out at the link below.

Nice to see the pics rolling in... Judging by what is shown so far, we're in for a treat this Zomtober! :-*
-
I think we need some sort of badge/banner we can post onto our blogs to show we have participated. Sadly I lack the skills to make one, but if someone else could, that would be great!
-
I put up my first post today. I got my first Zombicide: pRison Outbreak figures painted and rebased. I started with some of the traditional zombies.
Here's the post:

Nice, especially the kids. Who makes them?
Thanks. Kids are by Studio Miniatures - part of their Tiny Terrors mob. Other two are Copplestone, IIRC.

Wow, those kids are creepy!
I finished my second week's figure:

Nice work on the autopsy cadaver zombie. I had that guy half painted on my desk on the shortlist for week three, but Ill work on something else now rather than double up. Something about that miniature always appealed, although "appealed" isnt exactly the right word in this context.
(Not forgotten about the mini BTW...)
:)
-
I pulled myself together despite of my flu. And sort of finished these two. The bases are obviously still pending.

Huzzah! Just the one Survivor me. Big Thanks to Darkoath for sending me thins figure. Had to repair his axe with putty which was holding me back from painting him turned out to be easier to fix than I thought.

Couple of days ago i bought Resident Evil 4, and spent considerable amount of time playing the game.
So my next zombtober entry became influenced by my pc gaming expirience and i painted not my usual classic zombies but an advanced bio zombies resembling monstrosities from resident evil universe.
My weekly survivor also became influenced by resident evil and was painted in BSAA soldier colour scheme.

Sweet they look excellent!

It was a bit of a squeeker for me as I spent a lot of the week coaching my son's robot building team, but I did manage to get the four survivors from the Zombicide: Toxic City Mall expansion painted and based:

I like those Zombicide survivors, nice models.

Its fun to see progress from everyone. This is turning into a fun side project for me and its obviously getting a few people working on models that would otherwise still be in storage, which is cool.
Is there a master list of entrants/entries anywhere? I dont want to miss anyones contribution.
http://dinky-bloggity-blog-blog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/zombtober-2-2013.html
Im getting a "blog not found" message from Blogger about that link.

Well Got 4 zombies painted but no pictures yet. Working doubles this week. Have internet at work so I can spend some time on here but can not upload or download pictures from here. hopefully I'll get to it this weekend.
-
I know it's a day or two (or three) late but this is my week two offering. It's a Tengu Bloater
(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XsOfCv9Ee2k/Ul7mBQbPdxI/AAAAAAAASiw/sNQ9--qt-0g/s1600/20131016_201627.jpg)
He is still a bit shiny but the ink is still wet. Think he is going to perpetually damp looking.
I'll be posting more zombies on the blog. http://sleepwhenimlead.blogspot.co.uk/ (http://sleepwhenimlead.blogspot.co.uk/)

He is still a bit shiny but the ink is still wet. Think he is going to perpetually damp looking.
Nice. Think of it as all the puss oozing out of him. I would give his trousers (or what remains of them) a coat of matt varnish though.
-
Yuuuk! (and I mean that as a compliment...)
Better stay away from sharp objects... ;)
-
Those Zombie Plague survivors look good. Have they all been made into mini's? (And where could I get them?)
I'm early again with this weeks Zomtober update. I seem to have really hit my stride this week. I finished off 9 zombies that were only half-painted from when my previous zombie painting push petered out. (Pics of those are on my blog, they're not "new" paints, so I'm not really counting them for Zomtober.)
These are my third week's Zomtober entry:
Silent but deadly... :D Yes, dreadful pun, but at least now no-one else has to make it...
Despite his years of experience with hiding, the zombies finally discovered where Waldo was. Now, Waldo finds you!
And finally, as timefiller while paint/washes dried, 4 fire extinguishers:
The mime is from Hasslefree, Waldo is converted from a Wargames Factory plastic zombie, and the fire extinguishers are from Black Cat.
-
Too funny...
-
That mime has been on my shopping list for ages but I have never got around to buying one. I really must, it looks great.
Is it weird that the fire extinguishers are probably my favourite?
-
Yes, yes it is, you weird firefighting paraphernalia fetishist!! ;) ;D
No, I'm actually really fond of them myself as well. I just really like the notion of having scenery items that do more in game than just hinder LOS or movement. As little "rewards" for attentive and creative players, or ways of advancing the story. Fire blocking your way? Hey, look, extinguishers... Need to breach a wall? Look for those canisters of propane to shoot...
One of the settings I game in (Warmachine) uses a binary alternative to blackpowder. So I just had to paint two barrels marked with the manufacturer's mark and bands corresponding with the colour of both parts of the compound. If a player should happen to smash these crates together... :D
-
Wonderful work so far, well done everyone! :)
-
Vaing been late last week I though I'd be early this week. Not just zombies but Grey alien zombies. Now if I could find an angle wherethey serve the Great Cthulhu I think I'd have all the horror bases covered.
(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-caanFclp0UM/UmPWrrDEWWI/AAAAAAAATLo/BmnkezL_HAY/s1600/28mm+grey+alien+scifi+monster+conspiracy+x+horror+modern+rpg+savage+worlds+for+all+mankind+tengu+models+not+15mm+zomtober+zombie+post+apocaypse+zombocalypse+%281%29.jpg)
There are plenty more pictures on my blog http://sleepwhenimlead.blogspot.co.uk/ (http://sleepwhenimlead.blogspot.co.uk/).

Undead Greys; great stuff! :)

Very cool. I have a bunch of the plastics on the back burner, so this is good inspiration for when I get around to doing them.
-
Some great survivors and walkers there. :)
-
Great stuff. The greys are particularly memorable :)
Although I got 30+ non-zombie related miniatures that I have been working on finished over the weekend I was unhappy with my half finished zomtober entry and stripped it yesterday afternoon. So I miss this deadline :(
I hope to get two up before the final deadline to bring the total back on target.

I'm painting miniatures that I had to strip due to a varnish problem. Its not the same painting them the second time time round. I'll have on finished for this week though so 3/4 isn't so bad
-
I'm painting miniatures that I had to strip due to a varnish problem.
Ugh. I gave up on spray varnish a few years ago because of that. The Irish climate is too damp for reliable results and falling at the last hurdle of the process is demoralising to say the least.
A repaint rarely feels like it works out as well as it should either in my experience. Good luck with take two.
-
rwwin- great work on the kit basked figures! Amazing how versatile these kits are- I feel inspired to give it a go!

Also, love the running commentary on the blog. (priest must have been kneeling...). :-*

Zombtober becomes a very successful event. Nice to see such interesting entries from other participators. :)
Lovely work Nimrod. :)

That model in that setting looks like Majini straight out of Resident Evil 5 (I am assming that its deliberate) 8)
Lovely.

Thanks to all for your comments. :)
That model in that setting looks like Majini straight out of Resident Evil 5 (I am assming that its deliberate) Cool
Yes. He is the first painted model from batch of twenty Majini i converted from different plastic kits.
Combination of different plastic bits from Perry, Wargames Factory and Studio miniatures kits proved to be surprisingly effective for portraying Majini.
Hope to show next batch of them soon.

Ok, whew! I finally got a bunch of minis painted up, took some pics, and wrote a new blog entry so my buddies and I can officially join in on the Zomtober festivities! :D
Here are a couple pics, we did a total of 8 minis since we're late to the party. :)

Cool, I love the guy with the cigar. Where is that model from?
EDIT: checked the blog. Its a modified Black Scorpion figure. Very nice.
-
Haha yup, it is indeed Black Scorpion. Thanks for the kind words! The original double-barrel shotgun arm snapped off mid-forearm (through no fault of the mini, we were just being careless), so Bret took the opportunity to make use of the Dragunov he'd been saving in the bits box. :) He's a big fan of all weapons Russian, so it worked out haha
-
Through no fault of my own I have been slacking off with this zomtober. But believe it or not I am fresh out of both zombies and survivors! I had hoped that I had gotten my zombicide season two and get stuck in with those. But still no sign of them..
-
I've been a little lax with this (sorry guys, but I've been really ill again) - still, this is my fifth Zombie (and the target was four) and the Month isn't over yet.

Nice job Van Helsing.
Heres my final entry only managed 3 survivors.

Wow, nice entries everyone!
I especially like the "thick-boned" lade next to chicken guy, she seems to stepped straight out of the movie Rec (the original, not the Hollywood one)!
The hardcase with the Dragunov too, as well as Ash, have to respect the classics...
(The nuns, I'm not mentioning, they're creepy... Which is good.)
Anyway, here's my final entry, Old Lady Johanssen:
The unseasonally bright sun has washed out her colours a bit, I'm afraid.
Now I've only got one thing left to do to finish off Zombtober properly: Have a game with them on Halloween! Luckily this has already been arranged.
-
Great survivor added to the cause there Modhail. :)
-
Great stuff guys! Im only going to reach 50% of the target Im afraid, so no more entries from me. Im looking forward to seeing the rest of the figures that you guys come up with though.

Great work guys. My son and I have not finished with Zomtober yet, and intend to get one last set of photos in before the end of Zomtober with all our figures. In the mean time, check out my blog- I have a zombie battle report by way of a 'Big well don' for all you bloggers who joined in Zomtober.

Looking good, gents! That pack looks great, Rob! I love the leaves, they're a nice touch!
The vacant white eyes on your zeds are especially creepy, pacarat! Definitely gives them a bit of that authentic vibe for sure! :)

Sadly an overly ambitious goal and a busy week meant that I didn't make the deadline for my last post, but here it is:

It's been fun and quite productive. I'm one of those that works better with a deadline. I look forward to next year.
