Title: Kane books by Karl Edward Wagner
Post by: Faust23 on 16 October 2013, 07:49:04 PM
Hi,

I'm thinking about ordering and reading the Kane series by Karl E Wagner.  Before I do though, I wanted to find out if any of you have read them and like them, or if I'm wasting money on garbage in your opinion.

Thoughts?

Excellent stories!

Defiantly worth reading.

The Kane stories are dark, gritty, what humour there is is black, and the morality is questionable

They're great

Buy them  ;)

I read them many many years ago and still remember them as great stories.

Cheers

Very good stories and plenty of action.  Swords and sorcery literature at its finest.  :)

I really love these books.  Where were you able to find them available?

Good to hear!  I found a lot of 4 books with Frazetta covers for 48 USD and free shipping.  Death Angel's Shadow, Bloodstone, Darkness Weaves, and Dark Crusade.

I'm in search of additional inspiration for writing fluff text for Epic Heroes, and from the reviews I felt it was ok to order, but I trust that the membership of this forum would give me the true story on their quality.

Ebay had the best bet for the total price vs individual costs.  Also Amazon and Abe Books are good places to look.

I read a couple of them.  It's like all "pulp" level/style books  :) IMO - a matter of taste or spices, you like them or you don't.  I read them, thought they were decent mindless reads but not good enough to keep so I gave them away.   :-I

Only way to know for sure is nuke... I mean read them.

Gracias,

Glenn

There is a short story Wagner wrote for Sorcerer's Apprentice, the house magazine published by Flying Buffalo for Tunnels and Trolls rpg. You can usually find copies of this on Ebay. I believe it was issue 17.

I really enjoyed them when I read them many moons ago - along with his Conan pastiches.

I'm 15 pages in and love it!  My penchant for hyphenated and apostrophe names is being greatly fueled by this book.  lol
