Title: 50 Shades of Khaki - BEF 1914 (cavalry 12. 18. 2013)
Post by: Wilhelmshoeher on 24 October 2013, 11:41:25 AM
Aloha,
some days ago I realized that there are a lot of unpainted BEF miniatures in my "figurines-tomb".
So I ordered many more and want to start on them as a project, to be finished in August next year.
The plan is to have a lot of Infantry and with some support.

I am not sure about the rulebook. I want to fight big battles and not skirmishes, but I dont really like The Great War, any suggestions?

All the best
Moritz

Beautiful figures!

I don't know what rules all the kids are playing these days. I used to like the Warhammer Historical ones, but being out of print makes that tough.

Those are very nicely painted and based. Look forward to seeing more of those.

Have a look at Bloody Picnic or the lardies If the Lord Spares us, or Contemptible little armies all can be played with a unit as a company or as a battalion with Bloody Picnic. I like how you have based these by the way.

If you want to fight big battles then go with Great War Spearhead II. Designed for Division plus size games - we are refighting the Marne Next year in 6mm. My own collection is in 15mm but many have 10, 12 and 20mm. Not sure if anyone has done 28mm yet but I think it would be spectacular to see in 28mm. Once you learn the game you can play a corps vs corps action in about 90 to 120 minutes.

Figs look awesome by the way!

Very crisp paintwork.

Chris Leach has released his "Battles for Empire 2" rule set.
He is working on a set for WW1. Not sure when they will be out. However they will platoon/company/battalion battalion level.
We play tested them some time ago, but he wanted to change a few things around.

Here's a few pictures of a game we put on.

It has been a while since my last post, but here it is.
I now own Crush the Kaiser and I have ordered Bloody Picnic because I like GdB a lot. I am sure there will be a lot of gaming and playtesting.

The upper part of the Lee Enfield should normally be painted brown (since its wood).

But maybe you already know and you paint them this way because you find that it look better. I do not remember the details but I know that I’ve painted elements on figures that were completely inaccurate from a historical point of view just because I thought it look better.

Anyway, you did a great work on these figures... much better than I could have done myself lol

Cheers! 8)

That is the point.  ;)
I am realy not sure about the colors of the cavalry mens' equipment, so there might be some more "mistakes".  :D

But thanks a lot!
