Title: Za's painting project. Threadomancy with pictures.
Post by: Za Zjurman on October 26, 2013, 09:17:06 PM
Dear Laffers,

I have some confessions to make.
1# I have accumulated an enormous lead/plastic/bones pile over the years. A lot of these miniatures are fantasy related.
2# I buy more miniatures then I paint  lol.
3# I need to paint more  ::).

So I have a plan... I want to paint something fantasy related every week, be it a miniature, scenery, tokens etc. From now on I will try to post my progress every weekend. This will be an eclectic mix of old scool, weird, new and the likes of that. If I fail to reach my weekly deadline you are allowed to hunt me down like an angry mob  :D.

So week one was relatively easy because I had the week off. That is why I painted 7 miniatures... Which is nice because I had a dry spell in August and September  :?.

A few months ago my wife bought me the whole Ewal Dvergar range for my birthday (sculpted by John Pickford). This is a private venture by Laf member Clam.

http://claminiatures.blogspot.nl (http://claminiatures.blogspot.nl)

The miniatures are delightful and my painting does not do them justice. I can tell you they made me smile putting them together and painting them. C&C more them welcome.

More painted stuff next weekend  8),

Regards,

Za

That's a FINE start! The minis are OH-SO-COOL...lots of character & one GLORIOUS set of eyebrows...& the brushwork/color choices are OUTSTANDING. VERY WELL DONE!

Thanks for the compliments DeafNala and Brummie.

So Week #2,

I painted my first Reaper Bones miniatures: The fire elementals. I think they turned out OK enough (The paint job that is, not the pictures they are quite crappy, sorry for that  :().

C&C as always more then welcome.

I think those are awesome!  In fact, I'm going to totally use that paint scheme for my own elementals.  Thanks!

Fantastic paint job!  :)

Love the fire effect!  Like B, I think I'm going to use this for my own, I imagine they will look incredible in a dark dungeon environment.

Great job!  I showed my son and he said WOW  ;)

They look excellent. The darker smokey flame look is very good. I think I actually prefer it over the far more common brighter looking ones.

Thank you very much for the nice compliments I got from you all. I really like the lava/ fire effect and I think the elementals turned out very nice, though I must say I stole the idea  :D
http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/1302-hot-lava-bases (http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/1302-hot-lava-bases)

And now it is time for my weekly update:

I recently bought some nice cultists to make statues with them (for a big project I will keep you updated on in the next weeks, although there will be a big hint on what the project will be in this post  ;))
The miniatures are made by Pure Evil Miniatures and I think they make great statues. The statue bases are by Thomarillon.
I bought 12 cultists but on receiving them I decided to use only 6 for my initial plan and paint the rest up as normal cultists. A nice scenario sprang to mind... Statues coming to life  :D
I also used some Reaper Bones miniatures as statues.

Hope you like them.

Rainbow Cult:

Cultist Statues:

Reaper Bones as Statues:

Can anyone spot my big project  ;) lol

Cheers,

The Statues & Cultists all painted up SPLENDIDLY. I really like the idea of the Statues coming to life...very spooky.
When I first saw the Evil Shrouded ones in their glorious colored robes, The Cult of the Jaded Jelly Beans popped into my strange, old mind...it's stuck there now.

Thanks, it was real easy.

Excellent job Za!  Those look great, I hadn't seen Pure Evil's minis before.  I love your conversion work on the statues.

I think I spy some Dwarven Forge Game Tiles pedestals!   :D :D  Fantastic project!  ;)

I've been slowly working on my own batch, they're a lot of fun to paint.  Thanks for sharing, you've given me a lot of inspiration!

Thank you and yes you are right I backed the Dwarven Forge Kickstarter and painted three sets last week. Only need to do the doors. I also painted some more statues and dungeon dressing.

So here is update #4

Some angy angels. The miniatures are from 7TV, the bases from DwarvenForge and the big base is from Thomarillon as are the Gargoyles.

Coffin and altar. Both are Reaper bones.

It was pretty straight forward job, a lot of dry brushing, it took me a weekend. I admit that the cultist are somewhat colorful. I also love the angels, I am thinking about buying another pack an paint them up as "real" angels instead as statues.

Looking forward to tearing it up with my new Otherworld minis!

Bring it on  :D. I think Songs of Blades and Heroes should work as a ruleset.

Thanks a lot I also like the way the stone color turned out.

Some more dungeon dressing:

Evil looking Altar (by Thomarillon)

And some more pictures of Ewal Dvergar sculpted by John Pickford. They only need the basing sorted and shield glued on.

I pledged for three packs on Kickstarter. In the end with all the stretch goals the sets doubled. So in total I have 159 pieces of dungeon. Not counting the doors etc. I think the sets on their website have 32 pieces in total.

*edit: TBC they also way a ton. My three sets are 10 Kilos*

Oh, and I sold my S1 Zombicide promo minis for $500.00.  I lose 20 minis that I'll never paint and I get $400.00 in DF tiles!  I think I got the better part of the deal! :)

Great to see some other Dutchies on here btw!

Thanks and there are way more Dutchies around here.

those are cool, who makes them? I also have some of clam's Ewal Dvergar, these look like they would make an excelleny addition though, and the tower guy even has some cross over potential for use with my Confrontation Mid Nor

The miniatures are also sculpted by John Pickford and they are made for For A Miniatures. http://www.fouraminiatures.com/page2.htm (http://www.fouraminiatures.com/page2.htm)
The owner is also a member of LAF, manic_miner, so maybe you can PM him because the miniatures are not in store yet.

You know, we could do a 'mega dungeon' at some point... >:)

Mega dungeon it is and Groove has enough miniatures, so that won't be a problem.

Some wonderful paintings here Za. Really like what you did to the Dvergar and will look forward seeing them next to Andy's (4A) wonderful pieces. Some of the best Pickford's made till this day.

The miniatures really paint themselves. They are so lovely.

The New Dwarfs in the gang are FANTASTIC...appropriately enough! AND I LOVE the Group Portrait...you even have a chaotic looking movement tray. WONDERFUL WORK!

The movement trays indeed give it a chaotic look. No close order facing the enemy but utter chaos  :D

Looking forward to seeing how you do your Dwarves Za.Movement trays look good too.Do you have a rules system in mind for your games?

I have some vacation coming up next week and they are the first I want to paint, so hopefully within a week or two they will be ready. I intend to play Songs of Blades and Heroes with them.

Cheers,
Za

I have somehow missed this thread until now...great stuff all around!  I think that you will find the 4A miniature dwarves just as easy to paint as the Clam ones. They are all wonderful and I look forward to painting more myself when I get a chance.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,

Blue

That well looks lovely, I can't imagine why they'd name it 'The Well of Doom!'  ;)
