Title: Ripper Street: New Series
Post by: Tehet on 28 October 2013, 07:47:46 AM
Heads up

One of the best series of this year on Auntie Beeb returns for a second series tonight at 9pm.

According to the write-up in my Satellite magazine over the next few weeks their investigations take them into conflict with the Chinese Tongs and an all female gang as well as the usual suspects...

Looks good for atmospheric material!!

If you like ripper street I suggest you look at "Copper" as well it is BBC America and set in New York during the the American Civil war I warn you it is quite dark. Also if you want a look at how Canadians viewed this period watch "Murdock's Mysteries", I warn you it is quite Canadian.

Murdoch Mysteries is pretty tame, but quite amusing in its genteel canuckiness.

Can us Brits get 'Copper' in old Blighty? I've never seen it advertised...

No idea I am in Canada and I have to "find" the episodes online.

It is on LoveFilm in the UK, streaming. Which is one reason that it is not available as a Region 2 DVD ('cos sales would upset Amazon.co.uk and their LoveFilm exclusive).

Bloody heck! I'm watching via Netflix in the US; take a look there. Otherwise, you have my sympathy!

It's quite good, though I've only seen a few episodes. Suffice, trying to avoid spoilers, in the first few seconds, a) the 'good guys' show perfectly well how'd they answer the Greedo question, b) the Lord helps those who help themselves...  :D

I have very much enjoyed Ripper Street, but Copper felt a bit more the real deal. But that may have been because it was in the barbaric new world.  lol
