German Rocket artillery,(though I never read of it being used) then again they might have referred to it as a grenade launcher.

I know I went overboard, but i am a enthusiast when it comes to the german colonies,I even have Paul Von Lettow 's autograph, any questions just ask I have many german scources also check out Chris Dales "German Colonial Uniforms web site.
-
Ineteresting that so many mounted units are pictured with mules, which as well as being possessed of superior stamina to horses, were also a little less vulnerable to tsetse fly.
-
I know I went overboard...
Yes, you did. I've split this into a separate thread, because it really isn't fair to hijack someone else's book recommendation request thread to transform it into your own picture album thread.
-
Intriguing set of pictures though.
-
Great pictures - thanks.
-
Outstanding pictures, being a German East Africa enthusiast, its great to have archives to depend on! Thanks again!

Kings carbine ,thanx for the wonderful links it is hard to find items on the Portuguese.

The Gambian Conpany signal section.350 men strong,Togoland, Kamerun,1917-German East Afrika, all the while attached to the Nigerians, which explains my mistake, but which means they could have easily been equipped and dressed the same as the campaigns wore on.
-
Thanks, Juergen. Seems like the Gambia Company dressed the same as the Nigerians, in the green caps of the WAFF. Never actually seen a pic of them before.
-
Great pics.

Fantastic photos, and very inspirational for our ww1 East Africa games.
Many thanks.

Just discovered this thread. Yes, lots of cool photos and other useful information.
And you can now get a decent collection going in 15 mm by using the QRF range if you have the patience to wade through their website, afraid it is not user friendly any more - but they have enough figures covered to do German East Africa - just have to fudge a little for the Belgians and the Portuguese since, at last check, they didn't have specific figures for those two nations. But you can find ruga-ruga and porters, askaris.

These photos may be of interest - they were taken by my wife's grandfather who had emigrated to Nigeria and joined to as a lieutenant, fighting in both West and East Africa.
(Pictures labelled, "Gun in Action Jan 1st 1917", "Rifigi River" and "My Sgt. Major")
(He was in the 1st Nigerian Regt.)

And a picture of my wife's grandfather (I assume from the same set)
