I finally sourced a decent amount of ERTL 1/64th Longhorns to add to the collection. Makes for an interesting (castle EDITEd out) cattle rustling scenario. or a deady stampede.

So with the Hereford herd - it gives me a 100 head...
just call me Chisum...
-
:-* another great herd. Reminds me I must get round to buying a herd of cattle.
-
These Ertl cattle are not that expensive are they?

Nope.. I picked up 50 Herefords including postage for £18 GBP
These cost a bit more $25 US plus postage ,for 25 of them.
-
Lovely stuff...I still need cattle...dammit. (I keep thinking I'm "done"...) :`
-
I just ordered 24 "Head", I guess I can retire my wooden domino cattle!
-
Nice work! I have to get me some of these longhorns for my old west stuff!

Excellent , did you find the packs of 8? Or one large pack?
-
The packs of 8, for $9.99 a pack.
-
Yea, the Longhorns are a bit on the expensive side (relatively speaking) for Ertl. They only appear in one Ertl playset now and that's why you mostly find them in grouops of 8. The Angus and the Herefords you can still buy by in bags of 24 for around $10-$15.

Very nice!
Did you paint them, or just base and flock 'em?

They come ready painted/coloured of sorts. They needed the eyes painting in, and a few differing shades of brown wash, a little dry brush , and a then a varnish. But overall they too about 30 minutes to do.
Basing was PVA, sand mix and brown earth wash, light sand dry rush and stick on some tufts of various shades

As much as I love cattle in my gaming - and these are very nice - I'm still trying to figure out how you can rustle a castle! lol The damn things are super heavy.
-
I have a bunch of them. Came in the Ertl Cow town sets I bought years ago. Got the Ranch house set & several of the Town sets with a bunch of longhorn in each set.

A little imagination! , the moat gets in the way sometimes... I hate this auto correct feature!

Very heartening to know. Do they do horses suitable for pony heards?
-

What I'd love to find is something like a Chuck Wagon or Conestoga Wagon in the Ertl range. I have their buckboard and stagecoach. They are very nice, if a bit small for larger figures like Black Scorpion.

If you are looking for horses for pony herds look for those Tub-O-Horses play sets. You find them in toy stores & hobby stores.
