Often these kind of projects end up with places a little to small for anyone to actually live in. This doesn't look to be the case here. Great work.
-
Thanks :)
I know what you mean. The town will get a forum, Arena and a Lupinarium so it´ll Need to look "balanced" and I´ll definately add a few more houses.

My concern for your health (eating too many biscuits) is unfortunately outstripped by a desire to see more of your buildings. Sorry.
-
Paul, this is fantastic, and so prolific! You are probably the biggest Roman construction magnate since Hadrian! lol
-
Hi Paul,
fantastic work. Please put some tutorials up on how you have made the walls and roofs.
-
Thanks :)
Hi Paul,

I´ve nearly completed a how to, from walls to Roof. It´s quite Long and is taking a bit of time but it´s nearly finished :)

Paul, your Roman collection is stunning, almost wish I had stayed with 20 mm. :)
Very reminiscent of Ostia Antico.
-
Paul, your Roman collection is stunning, almost wish I had stayed with 20 mm. :)
Thanks. :) When I´ve got the How to finished it can be seen that to create the buildings in 28mm or whatever is totally possible..in fact, 28mm would probably be a lot easier.
-
Say, question if you don't mind. I'm used to thinking of Roman forums as purely the open space, perhaps with a centrepieces but not as an enclosed building. Your forum is more of a courtyard, which I guess is something that happened with smaller forums? In cases like that, what would the surrounding building house?
-
law courts and offices. The central area would be used for a market place
http://www.timetrips.co.uk/roman%20towns-towns.htm
The ones shown in the link are Grand affairs compared to my lowley effort, which, if I´d built one along those lines it would have been massive. On a rough calculation, a copy of the one at Silchester, with attached basilica, would be a model of over 1m square. Law Court (Basilika) is planned, which I left off due to construction Problems but I could attach it later.

Baths

This. Is. So. Beautiful.

Wow :-*
The baths are great, Paul. Well done.
-
Thanks :)
I think I´ll stop at around 40 buildings...and a wall.....any maybe an aqueduct..and...... :D
-
Extremely nice, Paul, looking forward to see the whole city.
-
Terrific job. Admire your energy. The interior elements are a great touch.

-
Beautiful thermae!
-
Really fabulous work on the town.
Fram, I think that enclosed fora are the norm in Roman towns.
This is the example from Leicester (where I live):
In the foreground is the forum (with its basilica and surrounding colonnaded shop-units) and in the background is the 'macellum', another market-complex, with the same general plan but no official functions.
-
I see Leicester has changed since the last time I visited

Great info. I´ll convert the present Forum into a macellum and build another with a basilica and the surrounding shop-units :)

Excellent. The "How To" is very useful. Thank you for going to the effort.
The how to took Ages..i kept getting ahead of myself and having to use another building to take pics of the relevant stages..then Blogger didn´t (and still won´t) let me upload the last two pics. I had to use one PC to upload the pics and another to edit. the text!!!! >:(

I am so green with envy! :P
-
The forum is a masterpiece!! :-*
All the Roman gang stuff is becoming a little hard to ignore and if I was to do some of it, it would have to be done on a table like Paul's amazing city.
-
Impressive project, Paul :D
Are you going to Hamburg this weekend?
-
Paul,
This was an inspirational book to me when I was a kid. I don't know if you've seen it before. But your project made me look for it again. It might be of interest to you.

:)
-
HALF done? Yikes!
By the by, you could maybe put a small fountain in the centre of the Macellum instead of a full Tholos?
-
Thanks :)

Oddly..I´ve Just got back from Hamburg...(Winsen an der Luhr) working for the DB.

The other Forum has a water thingy
http://paulsbods.blogspot.de/2013/12/forum-romanum.html
but a fountain sounds a good idea. The Tholos is half finished..
-
Oh, haha, I meant instead of a Tholos if you didn't have the room (as you were saying on the blog). I was reading that some Macellums didn't always have a full Tholos and had fountains instead. But if a Tholos fits, so much the better!
-
Thanks :)Oddly..I´ve Just got back from Hamburg...(Winsen an der Luhr) working for the DB.
Sorry to miss you. You'll have to make to with photos from Tactica then :)

:)The Tholos I´ve built too big for the present Forum..I might leave it as a set Piece on it´s own.

Sorry your not here, it's an excellent convention. Well done to Frank and the team :)

A Tholos. Where fish were sold, or the place where official weights and measures were held for reference or as shrines to the gods of the market place
(http://i59.tinypic.com/2u5tisg.jpg)
A pillars "How to" along with another pic HERE (http://paulsbods.blogspot.de/2014/02/tholos.html).

Nice work!
-
Paul, your threas inspires again and again. Now finally a piece I would be able to build, too. Seriously, I liek the idea of having a place such that in the midst of the market. Put to the list of things to be built.
-
Thanks :)
Thing about Roman buildings, the more you look the more there is to make...I´ve found an excellent example of an early imperial insula..and another temple, an aqueduct wouldn´t go amiss either..and ........................... :) Only 40 buildings? might not cover it all lol
