Title: Paul Hicks/Brigade Games Gladiators??
Post by: NickNascati on 08 November 2013, 08:20:26 PM
All,
I've been weighing the pros and cons of 54mm versus 28mm Gladiators.  I like the way that Lon at Brigade Games sold the first group of Paul's Gladiators in a set.  It seems like its been awhile since we heard about the "upcoming" second group of figures.  Anyone have nay information?

Nope, there is a thread devoted to them which has gone dormant...and we'd seen around 10 new poses/figures.  Not sure what happened.  I'd imagine some other sculpt project or priority came up.

Last time Lon Weiss posted around here, he said the greens were on their way to the casting machine. Brigade Games tend to release an average of 4 to 6 packs every four months or so and Lon hasn't had a release since this summer, so I guess the various packs initially scheduled for this fall have been delayed either by casting issues or simply a work overload.

It doesn't seem unreasonable to expect them either before Christmas or very early into the new year at worst.

I have a set of his first releases and they dont size well with my Crusader gladiators.  I'm in Europe so if anyone wants to do a deal for them... :)

Are the Brigade/Hicks figures bigger or smaller than the Crusader?

The Brigade castings are smaller than the Crusader ones.

Noticably smaller... a real shame.  Like I said, I have the first set, would have kept it if they were the first minis I owned, but they are just not right next to Crusader minis....

I have Foundry, Crusader, and Brigade Games Gladiators and I think they size up well with each other.  True, they are a bit smaller when compares to some Crusader Gladiators, but to be fair, the Crusader line has some figures modeled after pro linebackers.  Plus, Brigade Games figures are more realistically proportioned.  If you throw some paint on them they look good together.  The old line, "Not everyone is the same" applies here too.  I like to think of my Brigade Games figures as more "panther lean" than some of the other obvious body builders fighting in the arena.  But that's my own opinion  ;)

Update:

I spoke to Brigade Games at Fall In, in the hopes that they would have "released" the additional gladiators at the convention.  No dice.  The gentleman (name forgotten unfortunately) said he had received the molds though and they're essentially ready for casting.  I'd expect some notice or movement in the next two weeks according to what he said.  I told him we had a bunch of guys frothing at the mouth for the stuff...so we'll see!

Awesome...just what I need (and honestly with that full set I'd be about set for gladiators!)
