This year's LPL got me hooked on Epic and I managed to buy a good start for two armies of a local gamer. I've always wanted to play the game but never got round to it until this spring. Since then I've played quite some games, painted some more miniatures (although progress is slow) and bougth even more so that now I own to substantial armies. To keep me going I thought a topic here might be a good idea. Here's what I painted for the LPL.
Space Marine Bike Formation

During the LPL I based the Ork buildings and added a few details to them. When the LPL was over I finished the remaining ones.
All of them together.

In the meantime I also started building some big gunz. I only had four of the old Tractor Gunz, but with a few bits and pieces Ork gunz are quite easy to make.
The first four, two gunz and two pulsa rokkits (even easier than the guns 8))
WIP shot, I also decided to use a brighter red for my Orks, so I need to get back to the previously painted gunwagonz.

The finished Big Gunz.

Now and then I built a flakwagon for a change of pace.
Flakwagon #1
(http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l121/razpberryx/Epic%2040K/Flakwagon_zps1c4529fc.jpg)
Flakwagon #2

Flakwagon #3
(http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l121/razpberryx/Epic%2040K/Flakwagon3_zpsb69aee3f.jpg)
And the last thing I finished for my Orks are these five Battlewagonz. To paint them I glue them unto pieces of sprue.

I haven't painted any Marines since the LPL, but they did get quite a few reinforcements. Along with a Thunderhawk, Landspeeders, 2 Marauder bombers and 4 Thunderbolt fighters I bought these sets of turrets from Epic Minis, a seller on Shapeways. Great bits and awesome to use on any Rhinos you have left or are able to find for a very reasonable price on ebay.

There's enough to build 4 whirlwinds, 4 hunters, 8 razorbacks and 12 predators. Which led to the following scene taking place on my hobbydesk 8)

And that's all the progress I made up till now apart from removing mold lines and putting quite a lot of stuff together. At the moment I'm working on 3 more battlewagonz to finish my Big Blitz Brigade and 2 flakwagonz, one to accompany the gunwagonz and one for the battlewagonz.
-
Those marines are well painted indeed, I know how fiddly they can be from recent experience. Your big gunz and battlewagon conversions are top notch also.
-
Looking good :)
I took an inventory of my own epic models recently, triggered by the Hawk Wargames stuff - not the Dropzone Commander game, but they do a bunch of free PDFs of their buildings. I've printed one off, scaled at 60% (Dropzone Commander is 10mm), and it's starting to make me think about 6mm SF again.
I have loads of painted Space Marines (from the Space Marine box set and GW sale from the mid 90s), an Eldar War host, stacks of Tryanid blisters and loads of unpainted Orks (the other force in the Space Marine box). I've also got three or four sets of rules (although Dirtside has gone into hiding :()
What rules are you using for your games?
-
Great little thread 8)
cheers

This thread really made me smile. Lovely work you've done there.
-
Really nice both the conversions and the paintjob. I must remember to use more white on my own Orks.
-
Dang. Here I was about to sell off 10k+ pts per side Orks and Squats and now I HAVE to keep them and make sure they are up to snuff.
Epic Space Marine was my first post high school game and I still love it. Haven't' played it in 10 years, finally got to the point where I could part with it, and then I see this...
-
Excellent stuff.
Man, I need some of those add-on parts, I have rhinos coming out of my ears!
-
Those card buildings make me think of some resin 15mm Arabic I have. You know? A bit of repurposed door openings, some yellow wash...

Me too.
Nice work.

I love painting Epic stuff, the rate of turnaround is so satisfying.
The battlewagons are really nice. I love what you did with the old Titan Legions card ork buildings. I dismissed them as "rubbish" twenty years ago, but I have to reassess now.
Keep it up, all of those rhino variants arent going to paint themselves :)
-
Fantastic thread, I haven't done anything Epic in at least 15 years but seeing these makes me want to start up again :)
-
Liking that little strip very funny. Out of interest, which shapeways site? ;)
-
Funnily enough I've been painting up epic stuff recently.
Nice stuff and I love those add on bits, never knew they existed. I've got loads of Rhinos I could convert
-
Thanks for all the positive comments guys, gave me a nice boost of enthusiasme for the project! 8)
@zemjw: we use the Epic Armageddon Compendium v2.0, that you can download for free here (http://alfakta.org/downloads/COMPENDIUM_2.0_EN.pdf)
@rob_alderman/Commander Vyper/steders: the bits are from Epic Army Minis (http://www.shapeways.com/shops/epicarmy). He sells spikey bits and add on bits for Chaos rhino variants as well.
Yesterday evening after I put my son to bed I had some more time for this project. I had planned on finishing the Ork vehicles that I'm working on, but since we're going to fight another battle this evening and my opponent wishing to field a formation of assault marines I built four bases of these and added a fifth with a chaplain (he's using my Space Marines). I only have plastic infantry, so I needed to convert the chaplain with jump pack, quite a fiddly task, but fun to do and with a nice result if I may say so. Here he is:
I made one before as an addition to my bikers. It's a regular biker with the face and left arm of the chaplain. Behind them is a stand of terminators with a librarian and a medic (wouldn't want the geneseed to get spilled if one of the venerated brothers falls, would we)
Hopefully I'll have time this weekend to finish the Ork vehicles. I'll keep you posted :)
-
Fan-frickin-tastic! I'm trying to downsize my mini heap, but my first decision was that the epic stuff wasn't going anywhere. Topics like this remind me why.
And keep those devastators in contact with their rhinos - save bonus. :D
-
Finally got round to taking some pictures of the objectives I finished for the Space Marines.
All three together
(http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l121/razpberryx/MarineObjectives1_zps1e350b0d.jpg)
A commander lost in the woods, with only his aide by his side
(http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l121/razpberryx/MarineObjectives2_zps91a395b9.jpg)
Landraider riddled by enemy shells and with one of it's tracks blown apart, but the machinespirit is still functional and in need of rescuing offcourse
(http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l121/razpberryx/MarineObjectives3_zps4e39d57e.jpg)
Desperate last stand conducted by the remaining members of a combat squad with their backs towards each other (although my opponent keeps claiming they're just partying ;))
Furthermore I stripped all of my Imperial flyers and will be assembling them soon. As for the Orks I built four Deathkoptas to accompany the stormboyz into battle. And I'm working on an idea for these finest of Orks. To let them jump into combat I cut them from their bases and stuck most of them unto metal rods (for this I also needed to reposition their left foot, because it is pointed to the left and in midair that sure looks silly), some are still standing on the ruines for which they launch their assault only secondes away to follow their comrades in arms. Here's a tester. I used cotton wool for the smoke but I'm not sure how this will react to a spray of undercoat, so I'll need to test this first.
Finally I'm considering what an Ork would fight for, objective wise. A statue of Gork, a Waaagh! banner, an awesome big-ass gun... Need to think some more on this though.
-
I love Epic!
Your miniatures look great.
-
Wowza! Always like to see a felllow Epic player :)
Fantastic stuff. Will be watching this
-
Fantastic looking epic, I especially love the little objective markers.
-
Fantastic stuff Raz! There is something about being able to organize 6mm figures into little vignettes that has an appeal that I have yet to find in any other part of the hobby. There is nothing quite like an Epic scale scenario marker and you have nailed it with these :-*

To achieve a similar effect I drilled into the Stormboy jump packs back in 1997, added thin paper clip wire and flocked it with a few different grades of flock, getting thicker towards the bottom. They look sort of daft shooting straight up in the air, but having just dug them out of storage to take this snap, I still like them seventeen years later :)

More wonderful stuff, love it.

More pink lol looks good though!

lol
It's purple really, sort of lilac, but you have a point ;)
-
Some lovely stuff on this thread, love the objective markers
For orks what about a broken down speed freak with 'the hood up' and a mek boy trying to fix it?
-
Soooo great!! :-* :-*
-
A must take objective for Orks should be a cache of Grok beer barrels ;)

That's exactly what I love about Epic and tried to do with the space marine bikes as well. It's all about the story that's being told on the tabletop!
Thanks for showing those stormboyz. They look great. You really went to town on these with all those highlights, awesome stuff. I'll keep your idea for the smoke in mind and might try it if the cotton fails.
As far the Ork objectives I want them to be something an Ork Warlord would fight for. A last stand of three boyz or a stranded battlewagon wouldn't be somehting that imho he would fight for. Thanks for all the ideas. Currently I'm leaning towards a big waagh-banner, his pet squig and a big pile of pulsa rokkits, but I might come up with something totally different when I start building :)
-

Nice one! Need to think about how to build this one... :)
-
For my Ork objectives I have buildt a waaagh banner aka dawn of war. A weapons cache and a wrecked warlord Titan made from one of the old plastic beetle backs.
-
yep this has become a fantastic project. keep it up! 8) looking forward to seeing the entire army finished
-
Well, it's been quite a while, but I made some more progress with these armies over the last weeks.
@Dr. Zombie: thanks for the ideas. A waagh banner seems to be a must have :D
Assault Marines with an extra base including a chaplain
(http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l121/razpberryx/Epic%2040K/AssaultMarines1_zps7e7adaa1.jpg)
The chaplain was made using a plastic chaplain and assault marine, chopping both up and gluing the right parts back together.
Scouts, made from regular marinessince I couldn't find any (for a good price) on ebay. I cut the missile launcher back to a box and drilled a hole in it (had seen this before by someone else), cut of the clips of the boltguns to give them a more slender profile befitting a combat shotgun and gave them a different paintjob to fit with their tactical role: german grey, nuln oil, again german grey and a light drybrush with codex grey. I painted the shoulder pads the same way as my other marines to tie them in with the army.
I also built a Mega Gargant I got off ebay for 20 euros including shipping and it was still on the sprue :) Quite an enjoyable build. And with it being the ride of my warlord, I made sure he would still be leading his boyz from up high and in person. It seemed more fitting for him then being hidden somewhere within the large metal hulk 8) Still need to do some work on it though, like the small turrets and drilling out the barrels.

This is awesome stuff. :o I love this game :-* all my armies are on the original 5 man square stands (I never liked the new in line bases) I still have a lot that needs paint. Mostly Eldar and Squat with a small amount of space marine and Ork. Seeing this moves me to dig it out and paint it. Looking back through the post I love the rhino conversions WOW.

Small update. Finished 3 Gunwagonz and 2 Flakwagonz
(http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l121/razpberryx/Epic%2040K/Flakwagonzandgunwagonz_zpsffeb26ad.jpg)
As well as a chaplain on bike
(http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l121/razpberryx/Epic%2040K/Chaplainonbike_zps6acf7b6f.jpg)
Which means my bike formation is finished as well as my big blitz brigade!
And amongst other things I picked up this lot from ebay for a mere 6 euro's! 8)

Great stuff, a bargin ebay lot too :)
-
I find this thread extremely distracting. I dont plan to revisit my Epic stuff for another decade at least, so the last thing I should be doing is looking at this sort of thing. But I cant help myself, its so pretty.
Great work.
Cheap epic squats too, even better :)
-
Great work!

Thanks guys. Last tuesday we had our first Titan Slugfest. Lots of firepower was hurled over the field 8) The Ork Mega Gargant performed especially well with the fire support it can lend to nearby combats (12 dice on 3+). Currently putting the last pieces of it together, then on to the Ork objectives, converting some killa kans and building a Gunwagon for an oddboy so my blitz brigade can take on a titan with the Titan Killer gun on the oddboys ride :D So there will be more pictures soon.
