I know this might seem stupid but Im going to do a Reiver game next year with the Crann Tara Reivers and i was wondering what would be best to use for some cattle?
A guy in our club has used these for a Wild West game. Could i get away with using them for 1500-1600 Borders or would it have been a different breed?

Nothing to stop you using them mate as cattle was a very serious business.
Old Northumbrian breeds are Galloway Blue Grey, Whitebred Shorthorn so coluor would be the key
but also equally highland cattle were bred in the area too

Redoubt do some good cattle

Excellent. I had never seen them and the price is decent as well and i can get sheep too :)

Gripping Beast do some hairy rare breeds of both cattle and sheep iirc...

I generally look at Rare Breeds Survival Trust for most things animal related.

There was a thread on Viking livestock not long ago:

i read the title as if you were looking to paint 1500-1600 cattle! :o lol

Being from Hereford I can tell you that the white-faced Hereford did not exist in the 1500s, it is more modern than that. Fine for the Wild West, but look for a blue police box if your border reivers bump into any. :)
