Title: Re: VBCW Blog - New Update: Sir Gilbert holds a Gala Field Day
Post by: Doug ex-em4 on November 15, 2013, 01:20:24 PM
I havn't mentioned my VBCW blog here yet - a bit nervous, to be honest. Anyway, there's enough nonsense on it now to let it run free.

Here's the background page which kind of explains what it's all about:
http://velodoug.wordpress.com/

And this details the force I've got together:
http://velodoug.wordpress.com/about/

And here is the latest post - an AAR of a game I had the pleasure to take part in over in Pembrokeshire with R.Mark Davies and his crew at the Wargames Association of South Pembrokeshire:
http://velodoug.wordpress.com/dramatic-despatch-from-the-other-side-of-the-hill-battle-of-camrose/

Plenty of photos and a couple of other AARs plus bits and bobs of stuff happening in campaign downtime.

Ah, that's ace! I love the "goofy" part of VBCW, but got to say I have nobody to play with here. I got my international brigade all planned out already!  lol

I really wanted to compliment the butler-standard-bearer. That's almost as amazing as that old guy sitting in a wheelchair I've mistaken for a lady at first (and second and third) glance!

It is!

I really should not be looking, though.
It would be very easy to slip down that VBCW slope....

Stop it, Doug!

Thanks Jon, Mathyoo and Paul. Got some odds and ends at Warfare which will hopefully find their way into Sir Gilbert's story.

Spiffing blog Sir. Its background fluff and reports like yours that make this such an appealing period.

Due to a imminent VBCW game being put on by a friend over the Christmas break, I am hurrying to complete my first VBCW unit and some vehicles (since the game will be based around Swindon, I'm fielding the Marlborough College Cadet Force for the Anglican League). I'm looking forward to the game.

Bullshott - thanks for that. I believe I saw your Marlborough College Cadets at BLAM - quite excellent fellows. I met someone at Warfare in Reading from Swindon who is a VBCW man - he's Watchdog on the VBCW forum. So, Swindon isa  bit of a hot-bed by the look of it. I told him I was trying to get some VBCW interest down here in Devizes, No luck yet  :(

I'm only in Poole, so within distance to plan a game maybe.

Update on the cadets: AL command to go with them for the Swindon game now painted (finished this evening) and ready for varnishing. Armoured truck assembled and undercoated, so I will start painting in earnest tomorrow.

Once I've got the Swindon game out of the way I'm looking at raising the Wimborne Militia for the AL (cadets will be part of this force).

I've got a friend who lives just outside Poole who is teetering on the brink of vbcw. We could have a lively Dorset/Wiltshire vbcw scene with a bit of organising,

More developments for Sir Gilbert and his Volunteers of a very minor, low key and undramatic nature. Constable Smallbottom is a bit worried for about 10 minutes but everything turned out OK so no need for anyone to get anxious:

Also, The Volunteer's Order of Battle has been updated:

In which case I had better paint some more stuff up. Once I've got the Christmas game out of the way I'll be working on forces from the Poole/Wimborne area, with an alliance between left wing forces in Poole (including a defecting Territorial batallion and field artillery battery) and Anglican League militia in Wimborne facing off against BUF in Bournemouth and Royalists just about everywhere else. To stare with I'll be putting together the Wimborne Militia (assisted by the Canford School Cadet Force).

@jp1885

By the way, Jon. How do you think the umpires of the Hereford campaign (no names, no pack drill and may they be Blessed with Long Life and may the Abundance of their Loins be Legendary) will feel about the GVR Mk1 Armoured Scout Car (Steam)?

I know it's a bit VSF but I think it's got a reasonable back-story so here's hoping it gets the nod. It'll probably have to skulk anyway because it'd be horribly vulnerable. Sir G has told his son most forcefully that he definitely can't be in the crew.

I suspect they would have no objection mate - I know for a fact that one of them has at least one steam tank, and a sail powered vehicle, so anything goes  ;D

Great excitement consumed the residents of the Pontrilas-Ewyas Harold area when Sir Gilbert announced a Gala Field Day. It seemed the entire local population was there to share in the event:
