Title: (new pictures)The League of Ignatieff Imitators Proudly present......
Post by: coggon on 16 November 2013, 12:03:10 AM
This particular game is scheduled for tomorrow-report and photos to follow.  As always, many thanks to Ignatieff for allowing me to steal his ideas so shamelessly  lol

Below are the scenario and briefings:

Last Train to Clarkistan

Clarkistan, 192X.  The East abounds with rumors-Persons thought to be dead (the rumor mill is unclear on exactly WHO is not dead) are reputed to still walk the earth, and a mysterious train jam-packed with the accumulated treasures of the czars are two of the wilder rumors circulating the bazaars of Central Asia.
Reds, Whites, Chinese, Turks, British, and mysterious man from the East all come together through rough terrain and shifting loyalties for “The Last Train to Clarkistan”

And remember, we are dealing with forces beyond our comprehension.

British Briefing:
You are C. Stribling Snodgrass-Fresh off your efforts to stop the American Mafia from importing arms into China (See “Lawyer, Guns and Money) you were  promoted and transferred to Delhi.   Last week you were summoned to your commander’s office.  You took a seat, and watched your superior’s mustache quiver.

“Outrageous!” he exclaimed.  “Beyond  belief!”
Looking up, he notices that you have come in.  “Sorry about that Snodgrass.  Didn’t mean for you to here that”
“Harrumph” he cleared his throat “I must swear you to secrecy old chap”
You nod your head
“You may have heard rumors that the Czar and his family are alive?”
You grudgingly admit that though you have heard them, you put no credence in them.
“Nor do I” he continues, “But it seems that the rumors have reached the ears of our sovereign, King George.  And his Highness apparently feels very badly about ignoring “Cousin Nicky’s “plight" throughout that blasted revolution.  He wants these rumors checked out post haste and “Cousin Nicky” brought into India if he is still alive.  I’ve assigned you a small command under the guise of a hunting trip.  Proceed to Clarkistan at once and get to the bottom of this”.
“In order to lend credence to the company line that this is a peaceful mission, the Dalai Lama has agreed to provide some Tibetans as an escort. “

YOUR MISSION-Get in and out of Clarkistan as stealthily as possible, and gather enough evidence to prove that the Czar and his family were never there.  Should you actually find the Czar, escort him and his family to safety.   And try not to let the Tibetans or Whites get in the way.
Your Forces:
Lt. Michael Nesmith, +1 , Pistol, bombs
1X11 British Regulars, LMG, Rifles,Bombs, Stubborn
1X9 Bengal Lancers, rifles, bombs
1X10 Sikhs, Rifles, Bombs, Ferocious
1X 10 Sailors from the HMS “Davey Jones”,  Rifles, Bombs
1 HMG
1 Armored Car
1 Field Gun

Red Briefing 1
You are Red Rita Torkavech, the first female Brigade Commander in the history of the Soviet Army and a particular favorite of Comrade Stalin. In your latest,  ahem, “encounter” with him, he mentioned that he had allowed the Czar and family to escape in an effort to discredit Trotsky AND to draw out the Czar’s fortune.  Everyone knows that the Czech Legion vanished into Siberia with trainload of the Czar’s gold.   But rumor has it that the train was somehow rerouted back to Central Asia
YOUR MISSION:
1)   So far the Royal Family has not surfaced.  A British expedition is rumored to be on the way to Clarkistan to find them.  If they ARE there, make sure the Brits get the Czar and family out, but DON’T MAKE IT OBVIOUS.  All shame must fall on Trotsky and Tommie the Commie.
2)   Despite being an avowed Communist, you are quite sure that Comrade Stalin is a pragmatist at heart and would not mind having the gold.
3)   Don’t let “Tommie  the Commie” get in your way.  He treated you poorly when you served under him and one more screw up on his part should be sufficient to consign him to Siberia
Your Forces

1X10 Siberian Rifles, bombs
1X10 Russian Sailors, Bombs, Rifles
1x10 Chinese students, rifles
1X8 Russian Cavalry
1 HMG
1 Artillery

Red Briefing #2
You are Tomas Stolyenovich (or "Tommie the Commie" in British intelligence circles), former altar boy at the Church of St. John the Confused.  Your last performance was almost subpar (See “Lawyer, Guns and Money), which in the Red Army means you are considered one step short of being a military genius!  Comrade Lenin has given you an urgent mission-Unbeknown to most of the world, the Czar and his family escaped from Ektarinaberg.  They are rumored to be holed up in Clarkistan, where they await the delivery of shipment of immeasurable wealth that they must take possession of before they can decamp.

YOUR MISSION
1)   If possible, find the Czar and his family.   Bring them back dead or alive, it means little as long as  is there is no evidence that they escaped.
2)   Secure the Czar’s fortune.   All of that gold and cash will be of great aid to Comrade Lenin and the Comintern.
3)   Make sure that the usurper Red Rita gets no glory.  She and her brigade are only accompanying you because you don’t want to anger Stalin.
1X10 Cheka Rifles Bombs
2X9 Infantry, LMG, Rifles, Bombs
1X10 Russian Partisans, Rifles
1X10 Russian Regulars, rifles, bombs
1X8 Lancers, Rifles
1 Experimental Tank, 4 Rounds of Ammo, may carry 10 infantry

White Russian Briefing:

You are Baron Ungberg-Von Stern. Conquerer of Asia, Genghis Khan reincarnated etc, etc.  Your plans for domination of Asia have not been going well of late.  But you have heard rumors that Nicholas, Czar of all the Russias is still alive.  You have also heard that his mind is shot.  Hmmm you think, he could be of use as your puppet.
YOUR MISSION-Find the Czar, bring him out, and separate him from the harpy that is his wife.  She is of no use to you.  And should the Czar’s gold be there (the latest rumors say the Czech Legion’s train may be  headed this way), feel free to help yourself. Any other threats to Sacred Mother Russia should be destroyed too.
And don’t forget, your Mongolian wife, still insisting that “you never take me anywhere” will be along on the trip and she wants several t-shirts for her sisters that say “My despotic brother-in-law went to Clarkistan and all I got was this T-shirt”
Your Forces”
2IC TBD, +1,Pistol, bombs
1X10 White Russian Officers, Rifles, Bombs, Stubborn
1X10 Cadets, Rifles, Bombs
1X 10 Chinese Student Militia, Rifles
1X14 Mongol Cavalry
1 HMG
1X8 Cossack Cavalry
1 Artillery, Yak towed

Turkish Briefing:
You are Pasha Pasha, and once again you find yourself armed with Russian guns, but not Russian ideology.  You managed to get assigned to this mission today.  Some wild rumor about the Czar maybe?  You don’t care, for this mission should bring you in contact with the Emir of Clarkistan, and he has heavy weapons, apparently a “gift” from some warlord.  Your battle hardened troops, combined with these weapons, will make for a powerful force that will ignite jihad and sweep the infidels from your region.  And of course, the Emir will eventually become a liability, so feel free to dispose of him once you have used him and his followers to storm the city
YOUR MISSION:
Link up with the Emir, sweep the town free of infidels, the get rid of the Emir.  And keep the Russians convinced that you are on their side as long as possible

Tibetan Briefing:
You are Tashi Dorje, aka the “Black Lama”.  Virtually unknown outside the mystic  kingdom of Tibet, you are in charge of things that Dalai Lama would rather not know that the rest of the world be aware of.  You served your internship at the University of Chicago.  While working on a “Peace and Justice Internship” on the South Side, you developed a taste for Western clothing and saw first-hand the effectiveness of drum mag Tommy Guns.   While the Dalai Lama rejected your recommendation to arm his troops with them, he did allow you to keep the one that you received from a grateful Mr. Capone.
Several weeks ago you were summoned to His Holiness’ quarters.  When you entered his quarters he was deep in meditation.   After several uncomfortable moments, he raised his eyes to you and said “There are spirits in this world that are not rest.  You must will be able to meet find them in Clarkistan in several weeks.  The British are preparing an expedition-I have volunteered you to take some troops and accompany them.   Stamp out this blasphemy and put these souls to rest”
“Yes Your Holiness” you replied “One question-make I take the Yetis?”
“Of course my son” he replied.
You head back to your quarters to find your best suit and your Tommy Gun.

YOUR MISSION-Eliminate the blight (you will know it when you see it) that is about to be loosed on the world.
Your forces:
2IC Peter Tork-British Officer, pistol, bombs +1
1X20 Tibetan irregulars, obsolete muskets
1X6 Tibetan Mastiffs-must be with 10 inches of lancers, +3 per dice in combat, never check morale
1X12 Tibetan Lancers, ferocious, obsolete muskets
1X10 Ghurkas on loan from the British, bombs, rifles, ferocious
Yetis-may be summoned by any Tibetan unit on a roll of 11-12, (+1) if the Black Lama is with the unit.  Yeti’s will only fight in the hills, and fight with 4 dice, and take 4 hits and never check morale

Czarina Briefing:
You are Aleksa, Czarina of all the Russias.   Contrary to the popular story, you and your family are NOT incarcerated in Ektarinaburg.  Nor are you dead. You managed to escape that deathtrap.  It’s a long story involving a chicken, 2 Cossacks and a samovar.  It’s best left in the past.
What matters is that you have made it to Clarkistan.  And you’ve managed to keep your darling Nicky propped up throughout the entire ordeal.  Though he is not the man he once was, you believe that he remains a powerful symbol to many loyal Russians.
And you need him as that focal point for your re-conquest of Russia.   For you see, Rasputin really did succeed in conquering death.   Sort of.   Apparently he has come up with some way to reanimate dead flesh.   And he is on his way to you.  And that’s the last gift of “Cousin Willi”-he, at great risk to himself, kept Rasputin’s research project alive.  Although it did not come to fruition in time to save Willi, he did find some still loyal Germans and arranged from his exile in the Netherlands for the entire project to be sent to you.
YOUR MISSION-Keep the Chinese and their Pathan lackeys under your control long enough to secure the contents of the train.  It is in your best interest that the Chinese believe that the Czar is charge as you are  unsure if they will take orders  from a woman, even one so powerful as you. In order for you to do this, you must be within two inches of Nicky to make orders appear to come from him.
The world does not know that you or the Czar are still alive, it would be best to stay hidden and make a dramatic entrance.

Your Forces:
Rasputin +1- He may direct the undead hordes on a roll of 4-6, otherwise they move at the GM’s discretion, he arrives on train
2X10 German Stormtroopers with LMG (arrive on train)
1 German Flamethrower Team (arrive on train)
The train also contains zombies.  How many is open to question as Rasputin packed them in himself and he's so crazy he can't be trusted to keep an accurate count! You are guaranteed two groups of 10 that will appear when you decide to release them or the train is derailed.  But beware as more may appear when you least expect them.

1 unit of Chinese Assault troops with SMG’s in the town that you have managed to turn to your side. They will only obey you if they can see you.

Chinese Briefing:
You are Li-Ho-Fook, corrupt Chinese Warlord.  You control the village of Clarkistan.   For the last several years you have allowed various factions to use your strategically located town for their war-like purposes.  But that all changed a month ago when the Czar and Czarina of all the Russias turned up on your doorstep.  Though they had no money, they claimed that they could pay you once their train came in.  And you’ve heard the rumors that the Czech Legion is no longer in possession of the Czar’s “Treasure Train”.
As paranoia is one of your better qualities, you have hired the local tribesmen to provide extra security in the hills around town. You have elected to sit tight in the town.  But you prefer to think of the Czar and family as “bait”, not “guests”.
YOUR MISSION-
1)   Don’t take any order from that woman the Czarina.  You can’t stand her and will only answer to a true man like yourself-the Czar. You will accept 4 direct orders from him during the game.
2)   All bets are off if you can get your hands on the entire trainload of gold.  Once you secure that, all agreements with the czar are off.
Your forces:
2 IC +1, pistol, bombs
Wang Chung, Executioner
1 Mortar
1 artillery
1X10 DTD Fanatics, Bombs, Ferocious
1X10 Assault Troops, SMGs, Bombs
2X10 Chinese Regulars, rifles
1X8 Cossack Lancers, Ferocious
1 HMG
1 Sutton Skunk,

Pathan Tribesmen Briefing:
You are the Emir of Clarkistan.  You have been hired by Li-Ho-Fook to provide security for some mysterious shipment that he is expecting.   He has intimated that it is a shipment of weapons.  In fact he was kind enough to provide you with some samples which now make you the most heavily armed group of tribesmen in the area.  And you are expecting  Pasha Pasha to show up.  In the meantime, you need to appear to give the appearance of providing security, so feel free to fire on anyone else who shows up.  Once   Pasha and  his battle hardened troops arrive, secure the weapons and take over the town.  From this well situated base you can light the spark that will inspire a regional jihad and establish your own empire.  Of course, Pasha Pasha may need to be removed at some point , but not until you take the town.
Your Forces:
2IC, +0, Rifle
1X10 Tribesman, Irregular, LMG
2X12 Irregular Tribesmen, outdated muskets
1 HMG
1 Mortar
1 Sniper
1 Molotov cocktail, and volunteer to deploy it
Your troops start hidden-please note deployments with game master before hostilities commence 

There are lots of pictures.  Here's a couple to keep you interested until I have time to write up the whole thing.

Here we see the Black Lama extracting revenge on the Chinese artillery crew.  He was slightly miffed at them as they destroyed his beloved roadster with a long range shot on the first turn.  He took out 3 of the 4  crewman with one burst of his Tommy Gun and left the last for the Ghurkas to mop up.

The Czarina, aptly in the shadows, directs some poor Chinese conscripts to prepare for the oncoming Red tide.

The last ambush of the Emir-you'll have to come back for the full report to see if the attack succeeded  ;)

As you wish..............

Clarkistan, and its garrison of warlord troops

Li-Ho-Fook, perhaps not trusting his White Lancers with the Czarina around, sends them south (towards the British end of the table) on patrol

And the Dare-To-Die-Fanatics are sent into the hills around Clarkistan.

Meanwhile, the Bengal Lancers lead the allied advance up the other side of the table.

Meanwhile on the other end of the table......

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0571_zps9c3206bb.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0571_zps9c3206bb.jpg.html)

The Emir launches his first (and most successful) ambush of the game. Players were REMINDED that their leaders could scout for ambushes, and after this ambush, MUCH more scouting went on lol

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0574_zps68442ea3.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0574_zps68442ea3.jpg.html)

And Pasha Pasha wastes no time in removing the gloves and opening fire on Red Rita, much to the shock of Rita AND the GM.

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0577_zpseaf5c5f3.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0577_zpseaf5c5f3.jpg.html)

Red Rita, not one to take this sort of thing lying down, launched her cavalry at the Turks and wiped out half the HMG brigade in one turn.

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0580_zps533f4b60.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0580_zps533f4b60.jpg.html)

Sensing the threat from the Red side of the table, the Czarina orders the warlord to order his troops onto the hill.

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0579_zps3bf79a77.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0579_zps3bf79a77.jpg.html)

While on the other end, the British commander orders the Bengals to charge.  Bad dice rolling, which plagued the British all day, lead to the charge falling short.

 (http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0586_zpsf0bc3070.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0586_zpsf0bc3070.jpg.html)

The Whites charged on their turn and took out more than half the Bengals.  The British commander opted to disengage at the point and rolled uncharacteristically high for his retreat movement.

The Baron then launched his Mongol horde on the White Lancers, and the Mongols quickly whittled them down.

On the other flank of the British end, Lt. Binky Smythe-Smythe leads his valiant Ghurkas into battle.

While on the Russian end of the table, the train finally appears, and Red Rita's artillery succeeds in hitting the last car on the train as it whizzes by

The Czarina orders the Sutton Skunk down the tracks to deal with the Mongol cavalry

In an attempt to assist the Ghurkas, the Black Lama deploys his mastiffs.  The Chinese reaction was something along the lines of "Oh look, dinner is being delivered

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0596_zps657bdc0b.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0596_zps657bdc0b.jpg.html)

But the laughter ceased as the dogs went through them with a vengeance

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0598_zps57fe4b80.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0598_zps57fe4b80.jpg.html)

This fellow here is explaining to the dogs that the dinner jokes were in bad taste and he is apologizing PROFUSELY.

At about the same time, the Black Lama appeared and dealt with the gun crew.  Sadly he (hopefully) obtained Nirvana as a volley of Chinese rifle fire took him down.  This enraged Binky Smythe-Smythe.

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0599_zps75d4e1ff.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0599_zps75d4e1ff.jpg.html)

Digging deep into the recesses of his mind, and with perhaps a bit of help from the Black Lama's ascending soul, he summoned the yetis, who exacted a terrible vengeance by wiping our half the Chinese rifle squad-the rest promptly ran away.  Quickly. (sorry for the poor quality of the pick.  The yetis were moving SO fast lol)

(At this point the Tibetan player is laughing so hard he can barely stand and the Chinese players are looking at the GM and wondering what else is coming)

Back on the other end of the table, the Emir deployed his sniper........

And his HMG in an attempt to slow the inexorable advance of Tommie the Commie. Despite having 3 or more clear shots a Tommy, the sniper missed every time.  The HMG team did manage to take out a couple of Cheka though.

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0628_zps5dc32bf2.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0628_zps5dc32bf2.jpg.html)

Though down to one member, the mortar team did manage to inflict some damage, including dropping a direct hit on Red Rita's HMG carrier/command vehicle.

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0611_zps42a637de.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0611_zps42a637de.jpg.html)

But Rita managed to escape the burning vehicle.  She calmly relit her cigar and contemplated her next move.

And as the train steamed towards Clarkistan, the Li-Ho-Fook started to get nervous.  So he sent his executioner, Wang Chung to fetch the Czarina in an attempt to get the Czar to give him the whole train.

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0627_zpscab9d7f9.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0627_zpscab9d7f9.jpg.html)

Sadly for him, he did it right in front of the one unit that secretly served the Czarina.  Despite have the executioner's blade at her throat, the Czarina ordered the traitorous Chinese to open fire on the warlord.  For once their aim was true, and the warlord's bullet riddled (20+hits on 45 dice) slumped to the ground.

And at that moment the train pulled into town.........

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0622_zpsc2d8fb41.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0622_zpsc2d8fb41.jpg.html)

First to detrain where the German guards

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0608_zpsf03b4f2b.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0608_zpsf03b4f2b.jpg.html)

Followed by, much the chagrin of the other players, a horde of undead.

That's all for now.  Will post the rest later.

OK then,  on to the epic conclusion

(http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/a538/tooirish2/IMG_0629_zpsbd92656e.jpg) (http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/tooirish2/media/IMG_0629_zpsbd92656e.jpg.html)

The last train car, on fire from artillery fire, was detached from the by the Germans.  It rolled to a stop by some Turks.  Of course it contained more zombies.

With probably his best roll of the entire day, Pasha Pasha managed to run down a bunch of zombies with a truck.....

Too little, too late-the Mongols head down the tracks to confront the Germans, while the British regulars deploy in the background.

Except for one.  Pasha Pasha calmly pulled out his pistol and shot the last one.

Amidst the chaos, noise and smoke, Tommy the Commie's column rolled on, much the chagrin of the Emir's AT crew and sniper.  The AT team did manage to hit the tank once, but the round bounced off.

Tommy the Commie's column stops. The Cheka and the Red Guard storm over the hill, and the Chinese countermarch in a direction that takes them away from the zombies AND the Reds.

And in Clarkistan the last of the Dare-to-Die Fanatics raises his sword and heads into the zombie horde/  This guy deserves a medal.  He survived long range shelling from the Baron, MG fire from the Brits, yetis, mastiffs and zombies  lol

The last gasp of the Emir-his "volunteer" tried to toss a Molotov cocktail into a truckload of Sikhs.  He missed.

And in Clarkistan, the mastiffs tear into the rapidly dwindling zombies.

And the final shocker!  Through it all, Tommy the Commie stays FIRMLY on mission and manages to get the remainder of his cavalry in contact with the Czarina and her son, who I suppose is now the Czar.  He politely pointed his pistol at her and pointed towards an open hatch on the tank.  She and her family got in.

A view of the table, mid game, from the Red side of the table.

And a view from the other side.

All in all, a fun game.  Big winner was Tommy the Commie.  He can go back to Moscow with the family.  Perhaps the new czar will be of use to him.

Red Rita, Pasha Pasha, and Li Ho Fook (if he were still alive) witnessed the near destruction of their forces.

The Baron, stuck behind the British, didn't get into the fight, but he did get sneak into Clarkistan and procure the T-Shirts his sisters-in-law wanted.

C. Stribling Snodgrass thinks his reputation might be OK as there seems to be no evidence that the Royal family was there.  Or at least anything that King can hold him accountable for.

The Dalai lama will have to find a replacement "Wet Works" guy, but since the Black Lama's department  never "officially"existed, the Dalai lama's reputation is safe for now.

And Rasputin got away, and he took the Czar's body with him...............
