Title: British 1 Para in MTP camo (Empress Miniatures)
Post by: Garder on 18 November 2013, 10:42:45 AM
My first attemt at painting modern camuflage. I think it turned out okay.

I wanted the camo to look worn and dirty and I think I achieved this look.

I painted them as 1 Para, part of the SFSG, so I could use them as back-up for special forces raids in FoF games.

I think that you've captured the look there pretty well. Impressive work on such a tricky camo scheme (I know 'cos I've painted 50+ in 20mm and yours look way better than mine).

Nice painting on a really hard camo to paint (no matter the scale), but concerning color accuracy my eyes see MTP camo just a bit more tan  ???

ps : don't worry I'm new here in modern military minis, you'll soon have mainy chances to criticize my own tries...Even if french CE camo is a lot simplier  lol

Here is a list of the colours used. All paints are from Vallejo:

- Black basecoat.
- Then cover the uniform in a mix (3:1 ratio) of Heavy Grey (72.145) and Khaki (72.061).
- Paint irregular spots of Khaki.
- Do the same with Graveyard Earth (72.062).
- Do the same with Luftwaffer cam. green (70.823) mixed with Khaki (3:1 ratio).
- Paint irregular strips and spots with Bonewhite/offwhite.
- Do the same with Black Grey (70.862).
- Give everything a Khaki drybrush.
- Use some AK Pigments Light Dust on spots that would come into contact with the earth (knees, elbows and butt)

In reallity they are a little more khaki/tan than on the pictures. But taking good photos is hard  :)

They look just right. Definitely one of the best renditions of that camo scheme I have seen.

Good figures too.

Yep, you friggin' nailed it.  That's easily the best MTP/Multicam scheme I've seen on a mini.  The overall colour effect looks spot on.

Thanks for all the nice replies :)

I have ten men finished now and will try to take some better pictures outside in the sun (if it ever stops raining here in Denmark).
