Just thought I'd give a quick shout out for Achmed Abdullah and his short stories. I picked up a bundle of his stuff for 34p on Kindle -

- and was pleasantly surprised by them. I'd never heard of him before and only bought his stories for my Kindle on a whim. He was born in Russia and was originally named Alexander Romanoff ... and he was 2nd cousin to Tsar Nicholas! He was Educated in England at Eton and Oxford University, served in the British Army for 17yrs all over Africa and the East and converted to Islam, taking the name Achmed Abdullah.
His life sounds like a pretty interesting story in itself. He wrote some really elegant little adventure stories, often including elements from the Orient, Subcontinent, Arabia and/or Africa.
There's a treasure trove of ideas for gaming and I'm about to go crazy and splash out on another 34p bundle of his.
