Title: Rules
Post by: gefreiter on 11 December 2013, 06:01:17 PM
Received today my first order from Boot Hill miniatures (small order) and i must confess, they are splendid. Will receive second and large order from them in the folowing days, can't wait. Anyone playing the Alamo period must have them in my opion. But my question is that i'm looking for solo skirmish rules for playing that period or a system to adopt standard rules like Sharrpe Practice or Warhammer Historical rules 'The Alamo-Victory or Death'. Thanks for any info. Can't wait to see new releases from Boot Hill.

Cheers,

Dirk

Dirk,
The best rules pretty much designed for solo play is Two Hour Wargames, "Six Gun Sound - Blaze of Glory".  However, being used to playing solo, I've also do solo games with "Fistful of Lead" and "Shoot and Skeedaddle".  Its all in your frame of mind.

Sharp Practice could be played as a solo game, with it's card activation it should work ok. :)

Looking forward to seeing the figures painted now Dirk. You will have enough to keep you going for a while ;)

As much as SnS is a good solo game, it isn't suitable to the period unfortunately!  :`

I'm curious to see what you come up with.  I wasn't too impressed with WH's Alamo stuff.  Is the period perhaps more suitable for a Civil War (Black Powder) style rules set due to the weapons?  I don't know what skirmish options there are for those though.

I don't see why S&S wouldn't work.  You have the right weapons available. Its just a question of fitting the character cards to the earlier period.

I know it would be possible, just probably not ideal.  I mean using the card decks to draw wouldn't work.  There is no reason you couldn't simply create stats, use the weapon stats and make up your own skirmish --- just not as easy as dealing out cards, flipping em over and playin'.

 lol

The Boot Hill figures are some of the best around in my opinion. So characterful!

If you went for sharp practice you should check the Lardy PDF specials. I'm pretty sure they have one specifically for the Alamo using sharp practice.

Hello
As i don't have any experience with adapting or using rules for solo gaming i wanted to know how to handle the game? Normaly you play with one side and the other player with th other side, buthow do you do it when you play solo? I would use sharp practice rules, can anyone give some suggestions or how you handle it? I love to play the Alamo period and also the SCW, but i can't find an opponent!

Cheers,
Dirk

I don't know the Sharpe Practice rules at all, but could use a deck of poker cards (always an easy fix).  Assign each side or character or unit a card, and go like that?

One of the guys on our Fistful of Lead forum developed solo rules.
