Title: Strongman Talent question.
Post by: Irishrover13 on 16 December 2013, 03:59:35 PM
Hey Craig,

If I have a strongman piloting a flyer can he use the strongman talent to fire a military rifle or other two handed shooting weapon one handed?

Cheers,

Daniel

no is my answer ...
have you tried to pilot anything without your hands ?
have you tried to fire even a  LMG one handed ?

just give a try and you will have the answer , or an epitaph on your gravestone  lol

I ride my horse and fire a Carbine all the time when deer hunting with my father, so I ride with but that is a skill I have used since I was little. As for the LMG I did fire one one handed from a prone postion well I was in the Canadian forces reserves, it was very hard to control and I do not suggest it to anyone.

Perhaps my question is not clear, let me try again.  The strongman talent allows you to use 4 handed weapons 2 handed does that trickle down and allow you to fire a 2 handed weapon like a carbine or military rifle 1 handed? So they would still be controlling the aircraft with one hand well using their substantial strength to fire the rifle one handed.

Rambo did it. He's cool.

Is the game reality or pulp-style fiction?

Of course, if the flyer requires both hands on the controls to fly it, I guess your actual strength is a moot point. Plus, there's aiming to consider.

They can fire a pistol or one handed weapon.

oups mea maxima culpa , apologise ... i remain on the idea "one strongman one machinegun" . :-X

But i'm quite sure that 1895 technology ( if you expect mind controlled technology, something missing in IHMN ) require 2 hands AND some kind of Stronman talent to control any kind of land and air vehicles . ( it's quite difficult to control a GMC CCKW in difficult terrain, even with 2 hands  :D )
You can have Steam or electricity assisted commands  but with a cost , no ?
 any idea ?

Mostly I am wondering about the ornithopter.
"Taken from errata."
It can fly at any height above the table. It cannot Run but because of its manoeuvrability always counts as having Run if shot at (i.e. -3 penalty to the attack roll). Its pilot can drop grenades from any height but must descend within range if attempting to shoot with a 1 handed weapon.

So this brings me back to a strongman pilot with a rifle one handed. OR even a strongman on the field using a military rifle in his left and sword in his right hand.

OK, by 'four-handed' we meant that the weapon usually needed two people to fire, such as a Vickers or Maxim gun.  ::)

The Strongman talent allows to fire one of these without two men and the tripod etc. without it knocking you on your ass from the recoil and struggling to keep it on target. It doesn't confer amazing manual dexterity so you can do several things at once.

And before anybody even mentions it doing a John Basilone with a stripped-down .30 cal is a great deal different to firing a Vickers. Sgt Basilone did not have the Strongman Talent, but Mohan Singh and John Rambo do.

Btw look up John Basilone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Basilone, a real hero.

How about creating a new skill? True Grit: May fire a Carbine or Shotgun one handed - 5pts
Military Rifles of the time were really quite long, so even if you could hold it out etc, I doubt you could hit anything with it.

John Wayne can ride a horse and shoot a carbine one handed while holding a pistol in the other with the reigns between his teeth, and Arnie can ride a bike and use a shotgun one handed. So I say yes, but not under Strongman.

Exactly, and I believe the US gun of the 1880's was slightly longer and heavier than the Lebel too.
