Hello,
I wanted to post something small I've been working on. It is my hope to scale back on all my dungeon terrain, while building a little game that my son and I can play together (he is 6). I've been lurking on the fantasy board for some time, and when I found the beautiful Coppelstone sculpts I decided it might work well.
I have finished the Moria tiles already. They are based on my Strange Aeons solo project. Basically tiny boxes that I/ve filled with bricksheets, sand, and paint. I want them generic enough to look a little like Moria, but could double as something else later. Sorry for the lousy pictures!

Each box can be attached to the next box with a series of doors. Boxes range up to 3 sizes, and most are generic. Some have some more detail like drains, or chains, or chasms.

There are some painted skeletons for scale.
I'm using the basic Dungeoneer rules with some modifications. Now to play I have 3 sets of cards. One for terrain, one for events, and one for room type or passage. Ideally the cards should be able to generate enough variety to keep my son and I on our toes, or to allow me to game solo.

I'm still waiting for some miniatures as well as more playtesting. All the terrain comes from Pendraken. I finally found a good excuse to eat more chocolate at Christmas. My terrain fits in nicely!

Looks great! Reminds me of the old ICE Moria book, except physical!
Looking forward to seeing more.
-
Oh, that's a bit good. :D It all looks well done and organises nicely.
Your balrog must have wings! Wings I tell ya!
-
have you ever tried the 'simulated water' by woodland scenics? Its re-usable, if you later want to use it again for something else. Resin is clearer, but once you pour it, thats it, its set in place.
that would look great for the room with the bridge.
I once made a gelatinous cube with a skeleton mini inbeded in it, using an old jello mould.
then i did the bone-headed thing of giving it away. :P
ohwell, It was fun to make.

Those rooms look great! :)

The 'Oldben Box Trick' strikes again!

Great stuff, mate.
It works just as well in 10mm as it did in 28mm for SA.
:-* :-*
-
Great project, something I wanted to do too. 10mm is such a great scale (thanks to Pendraken & Minifigs :) )
-
Really nice stuff there, looking forwards to seeing more.
-
They look fantastic: very atmospheric and no doubt a sinch to store/transport.
-
Great idea! I had a similar thought when I made my fighting pit in a box.

I just never got around to making other rooms :(

Great looking cards. I downloaded an iphone app by Fuedz called Loot for my solo play instead of cards. It's a random loot generator, but you can create your own custom tables. Like I made a random table for room sizes, mobs inside the rooms, and custom loot.

I love your idea with the boxes and I think they work even better than the Pendraken resin dungeon. Here you have a picture from my blog during a game I had with it:

Cheers!

Blacksmith you were one of my main inspirations, I was upset when I missed out on buying your dungeon terrain when you sold it. :'(
Currently the pendraken dungeon sets are unavailable. They look great but are a bit fiddily with lining up the doors, and walls and floors. My version is much cheaper too. 5 dollars for a bunch of brick sheets. You can't beat that!

Doctor Ocks I'll have to check that App out. I like the fighting pit as well. Great doors!

Thank you Oldben1. Actually I sold all my 10mm collection except the armies. I'm honest saying I like your dungeon to Pendraken's. Yours is bigger, easier to assemble, nicer and of course quite cheaper ;-)

Thanks Blacksmith, I do like the uniformity of the Pendraken stuff, but in terms of price and affordability the little boxes are awesome. I only have around 20 left. I was hoping to make some sci if ones too.
Why did you sell off all your 10mm stuff? I thought it was beautiful.

Thank you Oldben1. I'm getting old (47) and my eyesight has worsened quite a bit so I'm moving to 28mm except for Warmaster and Epic :)
-
Sorry about the eyes, as I don't paint the characters myself I hope I have a few years left. If you decide to sell any more, let me know!

That looks great! Such a neat idea.

Nice and clever, great job. :-)

I got a pleasant surprise on Friday. My package came from Bryan at The Iron Painter Studio. Bryan is an awesome painter and a great guy. He packs a lot of punch into 10mm miniatures. I plan a test run through my dungeon crawl rules in the next week or so.
Here are some pictures:

Excellent - very atmospheric.
-
Wow! Great painting and atmosphere. I love the troll's eyes.
Congratulations Oldben1
-
Excellent painting.
-
Incredibly good looking. The proof that no matter the scale, a good painter with a good mini can obtain great results.
-
Another great example of your nice box work. I remember you used jewelry boxes before. Did you find more of them? If so, where?
-
I keep raiding the photography department at my work. They are old photo paper boxes. I took so many I had to buy them bins to hold all their knock knacks. I now have a stockpile of 20. I've got a stockpile!
-
You're comment about photo boxes reminded me of all the different photo storage boxes at Michaels.
http://www.michaels.com/Recollections-Photo-Craft-Storage-Boxes/sb1441,default,pd.html
I think these are only a couple of dollars each.
& they could probably be pretty easily cut in half & use picture mounting board to add the missing wall. Cut them widthwise & make smaller rooms & lengthwise to make corridors.
& since they come with lids, you can leave the lids on to hide what's in them until the players enter the room.

Are you enabling me Black Cavalier? lol
I've seen those boxes, they are a little too deep, at least for me. Hard to see and get my giant meat hooks in there!
Thanks for thinking of me though.
