Hi, I am new to the forum and have just started my collection for this period with a couple of Battle Flag buildings and some Black Scorpion figures and would like some simple rules that non-gamers (i.e. members of the family) could pick up for a quick game.
I will be at Crusade at Penarth later this month and was wondering if the Dead Man's Hand rules would be a good starting point as Ground Escape Games will be there.

I only have Fistful of Lead but it strikes me as an easy game for non-gamers to grasp. It's available to download as a PDF for about £6/$10. As you mention, there's also Dead Man's Hand which is also supposed to be easy to pick up. Shoot N Skeddadle is another that is popular.

Hve a look at Savage Worlds, it's the Old Deadlands system. It's free and easy....

It's a FoL WAR which may help give another perspective.

If you head over to this site you can find a great list of free and simple rules as well as a list of those you can purchase

I have always enjoyed the rules with no name which used to be free and now are a published set you would have to by. Two Hour Games also has a good set of rules for westerns that are fairly simple.

You can get original set of The a Rules With No Name free as PDF from the TRWNN yahoo group! as well as an even simpler set called Dusty Trails.

I have been playing deadmans hand and have played many others. I would say it is the easiest system I have learned. Very fast play and easy dice mechanics.

Fistful of Lead is very simple and easy. I play it with my 8 year old son and he got it in 10 minutes.
But simple and easy doesn't means it is a poor game. It really do the job and create fun games.

+1 for Fistful of Lead.

Fist Full of Lead than Deadmans Hand. FFOL I feel is easier to learn and it is very fun.

Deedles Thanks for posting this. These rules are some of the best and I used them for a lot of games. When I was teaching I ran a game club for Jr and Sr high students. We played a lot of wild west games and several using the zombie rules ("Treasure at Dead mans Gulch" :D) Great rules. I did not have them on my computer any more so getting them again is great. :-* :-* :-*

Sounds like you have plenty of suggestions to get you started there.
I am currently using Legends of the Old West with my group, which was very easy for us to pick up as we are all old Mordheimers.
Anyways, check out what the others suggest, I just wanted to say: Welcome aboard!
:D
