Title: British gothic fantasy - faeries and goblins wanted
Post by: Bullshott on January 06, 2014, 11:27:52 PM
I'm looking for faerie and goblin figures to use in a VIctorian/Edwardian countryside setting, that will scale in with 28mm figures, especially with the various children available from Westwind and Eureka. Cab anyone suggest good ranges?

Goblins should be no taller than child sized, wearing hooded cloaks and carrying hand weapons.

Faeries should also be around child size (I'll take taller or smaller, whichever looks nicest).

Whichever figures I go for they must be good looking sculpts, since my human adults will all be nice 28mm figures (e.g. Woodbine's hunting paty and poachers).

Sounds like an interesting project Dave. I wonder if the Vendel (ex-Vendel now) goblins would do you. They were cloaked and kind of traditional, as I recall. Not sure who carries them now. someone in the States I think...

Dreamblade miniatures had a gorgeous, for a prepaint, redcap. Reaper has some wonderful leprechauns. The one with the owl is my favourite. Also take a look at their familiars and fairies. Something may peak your interest

Have you checked the Fanticide Fae? They have sprites and brownies which are very small, including one mounted on a fox and possibly a squirrel I think.

Also on sale here:

Thanks for these ideas, keep 'em coming. I'll look  the ideas posted so far when I get in from work this evening.

As a qualifier on the goblins, I don't want them with armour or shields, just simple hand weapons - nasty creatures of the night that kidnap children!

The object of the game is that each player controls a small group of humans, mostly intent on rescuing children from the clutches of the faerie folk. As more faerie folk get triggered, so the chances of something nastier appearing increase (ideas welcome). Some players may have conflicting agendas too, e.g. Pre-Raphaelite artists intent on saving the faerie folk.

This may also result in some new 'otherworldly' elements appearing in the IHMN companies I'm developing. Certainly my human hunters and some others will be appearing in IHMN and VBCW games. This will also nudge me into finally finishing all parts I need for my 28mm English countryside village!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm now going through them all.

@ Skrapwelder - thanks for pointing me to Rrobh's thread - there are some wonderful ideas and great paint jobs.

@ Dewbakuk - The Fantcide range are certainly in my sights. DO you know of any good pictures of the brownies and sprites - from the few shots I've seen, you get no impression of how good (or bad) the sculpts are?

Looking forward to seeing your progress with this, Dave.
It sounds like a very interesting project, right up my street.

I am always on the lookout for weird critturs for my British Strange Aeons setting, so will be following with interest from that perspective too.
I used the Four A miniatures Sea Demons for my British Boglins:

I'll see if I can get a pic of them for you, might be through a blister pack though, depends how they're packed :)

I did find this online:

How about using the West Wind vampire children as changelings?
Given the size of the fantacide fae, perhaps some 10/15/20mm figures might be of use?

Thanks for the link. The faeries look great but unfortunately are probably too small to go with my 28mms.

Peter Pig makes a 15mm Garden Gnome army for hordes of the Things - I'm sure they'd sell you separate figures if asked!
