Title: Spanish ISAF 28 mm.
Post by: Suber on 09 January 2014, 04:09:42 PM
I have been delaying this project for a long time, but the moment for it has arrived at last. I am to introduce myself into modern warfare. Of course there are not 28 mm. modern Spanish troopers out there, so I had to look for guys carrying G36 and similar gear/equipment. I had my doubts as I had two or three nice options, but then I saw the LAM German Marines and I finally fell for them. The needed some GS work on uniform and gear. Let me show you the worst and blurriest pics I've ever taken :'(

Of course this is some kind of naive conversion work, but I think it will work at tabletop distance (my futile attempt at giving the last guy a MG4 will not even be noticed once you see it painted ;))

When primed they look like this:

You can find a few mumblings about this here:

So I am on the go! No return point!

Very nice work Juan. Only a little disappointed that you didn't make some new and specific sculpts available for sale.

Ummm, thanks, but I am afraid you might be talking about someone else ::). How much would I like to have the skills to sculpt and cast minis on my own!

Edit: Oooo, I get it! You were talking about Clearco! I am eager to see what he sculpts, that project is still alive as far as I am concerned :)

Oops, sorry. So many talented Spaniards here. ::) Yes I did mean Clearco. Hopefully, he's working on them.

Again, nice conversion work. I still have a spare set unpainted so I might just be inspired now to do something similar.

Well, now this is coming along a little bit more. Here are the guys once painted:

So this is it:

I got a (gorgeous) desert mat and a few houses from Crescent Root (pricey due to shipping costs, but a great product)

As usual, here you have the complete thing in my blog:

 :)

I still have a vehicle for them, a Humvee which I am turning into the Spanish variant 'Vamtac'. I looked for a RG-31, but found nothing this scale.

In a few days I will bring you a few Taliban forces ;)

Thank you! Now I bring here some Taliban forces by Empress:

When altogether they look like this:

(Crappy pics indeed, I have to take them again using a better light)

So it looks I have where to begin with... Now I must dare to read the rulebook (always the part I become more lazy about...). Skirmish Sangin looks pretty detailed; in fact I feel a little overwhelmed, the sensation is quite realistic, but there are a lot of things you have to look upon! :o

Really a shame that LAM hasn't done a follow up set of Marines just with the G36 rifles.  As they are now, they barely make up a proper fireteam.

nice work. I like a lot, the conversions are great, and also the paintjob
I like also the buildings, how you made them?

(parecemos GW jajajaj)

Thanks a lot! The buildings are from Crescent Root: http://crescent-root.com/
Pricey due to shipping expenses, but truly lovely.

I'd love to see Vepaminiatures producing some of those!

PS: There are some vehicles on the workbench. Soon... ;)

Back again on this!

I had just painted this Humvee and I thought 'well, it's fine as it is; not exactly the Spanish variant, but who cares...'

I went for the technical for the Taliban. But the Humvee glanced at me. I couldn't resist. I needed to do the right thing...

And only then I let myself finishing painting the other vehicle:

You can find more comments and pics here:

Now I do not have any excuses, I really need to read that rulebook...

Hey,

great stuff all round! I am working on a similar project myself, but I've decided to base my games in a fictional conflict...allows for more freedom.

I see you had the same problem with humvees as me, with the longer exhaust, cable cutter and the rest of the stuff. Yours came out really well - especially the sign.

Great minis ! I especially like the fact you choosed local armies instead of the usual USMC (nothing againt US soldiers, it's just nice to see other armies represented).

I didn't knew about this skirmish sangin ruleset, the pics on their website are gorgeous. Personaly I bought Force on Force. Does Ssangin has french lists too ?

I haven't studied the ruleset with the depth needed, but I believe you can freely configure your forces; basic profiling depends on concepts as 'regular' or 'veteran' troopers (noobies, basic trained troops, hardened guys, etc.). Quite complete indeed; a little bit complex for me, as I'm used to board games or quite simple wargames, but as far as I've seen, it looks great. :)

"Skirmish Sangin" is a very good ruleset for a really small skirmish, and there is an army list for the French forces, a Chasseurs Alpine and a French Foreing Legion sections.

You need to read a bit, but the game is very easy to play, and really fun.

Suber, Have you seen the German figures from Eureka Miniatures?

Those were on my sight, but shipping costs made me change my mind and I got LAM German Marines. Five minis were enough for what I intended for the moment. If I keep on making my force grow they would be of course a more than serious option.

Don't forget you can get Eureka miniatures from fighting15s in UK.

BTW If I may hijack a thread a bit...I had a read through Skirmish Sangin try out rules and I'm really put off by percentages everywhere. It's so bad I can't even read through it all, but people seem to really enjoy the rules - what am I missing? :D

Nice work!
Conversions/Painting, etc...
Really nice.

I am thinking in doing some modern/near future spanish army too.
I'm still considering differents options wich can be usefull for you Suber if you want to extend your project.

So here are my results for the moments :

Hasslefree is doing some generic modern troopers with G36, and sells G36 weapons sprue, wich can be really usefull.
Maybe some german troopers will do the trick, since the weapons can be the same, and the actual helmet is quite similar to the spanish one. Differents company sells modern 28mm German miniatures.

For the vehicles Empress is selling the Leopard 2A6, wich is close enough to the Leopard 2E.
I'm waiting to know wich APC will be in use in the spanish army next.
Alongside the actual BMR600 Pegaso, they are using some M113, which are easy to find.
