Hey all,
I'm looking for a miniature of a magic flying sword - as in a sword that hovers in the air, fighting by itself. I do not know of such a model myself, and google has been no help, but being such a trope of high-fantasy its the sort of thing that I assume must exist somewhere.
Anyone got any ideas?

That sounds like a really easy conversion. I would look through what Reaper has to offer first, if they don't have anything there is a nice list at the top of the Fantasy Adventures page for miniature companies. I have a nice little mini from Reaper I would use, pictured here with a Murder of Cows.

It would be a really easy conversion. I cant think of any way to carry it off without it just looking like a sword either stuck in the ground or hovering mid-air on a bit of clear rod. In the likely event that I cant find anything really cool I'll probably fall back on a conversion that should end up looking not completely unlike that one with the crow.

Suspend it in a highly polished resin column? Um.... maybe not.
Tricky one! For some reason I keep thinking of UHU glue and clear finishing line.. perhaps you could colour the UHU glue with light blue and bend the dyed UHU covered fishing line around the sword like elemental lightning.

hm,maybe you can sculpt some "wielding" Effect think of an Wind Elemental.Or something like a Wave with a Sword on Top?There are few Companes making Miniatures to represent Spell Effects too ???

Once I did a flying sword, I used a transparent plastic sheet (the cover of a blister is spot on!).
I cut the shape of the sword together with the convenient "sprue" to be glued on the base, so to obtain the hovering effect.
Than you've to paint only the sword, of course!,and you're done!! ;)

I suppose you could use one of the various medeval casualty figures available, converted so that they are in the process of being slain by an otherwise unattended sword... But that ight be a little grisly for some....

Check out the heresy miniatures angel they have an awesome oversized sword that is flaming. File off the hands and it would really look like a magical sword. Andy will usually sell bits of his miniatures if you ask especially.

I'm going to add "flying sword" to my own list of future projects now. lol

The GW wizard pack has a nice flaming sword. That might give it a sense of motion.

Magnificent Egos made nice Animated Weapons and Shields.
I think they are sold be Valiant Miniatures now. The same guys that carry the Clan Wars figures.

Hey Everyone.
Thanks for all the pointers. Looking at the Ego's stuff the concept of the 'ghost weapons' is perfect...only they don't do a sword. Looks like a relatively simple conversion/sculpting task though to just take a suitable sword (in my case a Dark Ages one) and add the swirls/fire/lightning.

Only problem is, I was born with Troll hands and cant sculpt for toffee. I don't suppose anyone out there has magic sculpting fingers and would be willing to lend a hand? I don't mean doing commission work or anything (Im far too poor for all that), but Id be happy to work something out...
And Vauln - thats looking ace! Cant wait to see it finished. :)
