First six figures for my spring project: two brigades of foot and two of horse for a British army c.1704.
These 28mm figures by Front Rank make up the right flank companies of North and Grey's Foot:

I'm not completely happy with the faces as they've come out a bit doll like, and varnishing will have to wait for better weather. The next six are about a third done. So I hope to have the unit complete by mid next week.

Nice brushwork, especially the grenadier caps ;D
-
Lovely I have some SYW Grenadiers to paint up the mitres look rather tasty Janner 8)

I say, those are rather good Stephen. Well done.
How many are you going to paint in total do you think?
-
Beneath Lily Banners have 18-man foot units and squadrons of 6. So I'm planning some 150 foot and 60 horse/dragoons for the Brits.
-
Many moons ago I did a Bavarian army in 10mm for this Piquet rules, both the figures (colour and size) and the rules were the most boring thing I ever did. These look grand especially in gods own scale and BTLB seems a canny set of rules
-
Front Rank certainly make chunky chappies. I prefer the Perry look, but it is growing on me as it sort of fits the time period ;)
-
Yes. They do have a very definite look. It's a slightly acquired taste, but suits the period I think. I am very taken with their late C17th range, and have rather a lot of them... Sadly only about 10% of which I've so far got round to painting... ::)
-
18 man units in batches of 6 feels reasonably painless at the moment, but I'm mixing and matching with SciFi and Romans for variety :)

Your production must be quite the machine, to say that! Painting that many in such glorious detail, wow! That would drive me into a deep depression at how long it'd taken me to finally have the force ready to field. I agree on the grenadier caps -- top notch!

I have a painting tray and a good spot lamp. So I can sit painting alongside the long haired general whilst she watches tele. I do all the undercoating, basing, and varnishing elsewhere, but it's amazing how much you can crack with a couple of hours most evenings.
The optivisor has been a game changer though. I can suddenly do the same sort of detail that has been beyond me for at least a decade :)

Ha, ha! My vanity, as yet, prevents me from employing one. Besides, I still seem to see fine close up. My distance vision has always required correction. I *do* have to take the contact lenses out to paint, though. My eye doctor, who is also a miniatures gamer, laughs at me every time I tell him I refuse to give in to a visor or reading glasses!

Exactly the same for me :)

If helps avoid eyes train and extends my good vision by a year or two, then I can live with looking odd whilst painting details lol

Based on some fresh information, the grenadier caps for North and Greys needed a little reworking. I also took the chance to redo the eyes:
(http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd141/jannerxi/18th%20Century/IMG_1450_zpsd913cd75.jpg) (http://s221.photobucket.com/user/jannerxi/media/18th%20Century/IMG_1450_zpsd913cd75.jpg.html)
Then it was onto the left flank companies of the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards (with a different approach to the faces, which probably means revisiitng North and Grey's again  ):

Next up, the left flank companies of North and Grey's and the centre companies of the 1st Foot Guards :D

Lovely. Nice wigs. Or perhaps they are Whigs? ;)

Splendid :-*

I think they are, Tories would have required me selling off figures rather than buying new ones lol
edit:
What sort of terrain are you going for?
Nothing special at this stage. I repainted my boards in November and have a good supply of medieval buildings that'll do for now :D
-
Lovely painting.
I do like the Front Rank figures.
Great painting on their faces.
You will have a fine looking army when done.

Really nice. Wouldn't mind a shot of the flag with the sun; who makes it (or did you do it by hand!)?

It's by Flags of War :)

Fourth battalion complete :D
The Duke of Marlborough's Regiment of Foot, which later became 24th.
Right flank:

Centre Coys. Unfortunately, I'm awaiting Flags of War to release the colours for this regiment - still good things come to those that wait:
