Title: Visions of the Capital of Old Ruritania
Post by: Bogdanwaz on 12 January 2014, 02:22:44 AM
I've posted some photos of a table depicting the capital in my version of Ruritania.  This is for an upcoming VSF/Gothic Horror game:

I agree - I now see a good reason to get those Eureka Miniatures sculpts for myself!

Fantastic! I really love it and I am envious.

A couple of questions:
.- Buildings: Who is the manufacturer.
.- peasants: Although I have recognized most of the figures (Eureka and WestWind) I have not been able to recognise the 2 female peasants and the one with donkey in the background. Are they perry civilians from the carlist range? And the alchemist professor

BTW wonderful painting of the WW Eastern Police figures.

Excellent!

Immediately had to search to see if you were acquainted with Red Orc's build of Ruritania. I see yes, and yours departs in quite a bit.

I also see him saying 'Doesn't fit with Hope's but what the hell, it looks like a load of fun!' And, who can argue with that?  ;)

Just in case someone tries, I love your 'The concept I use is that Hope did to Ruritania what Bram Stoker did to Transylvania, used an exotic location, borrowed a ruler from a neighboring country, and made up the rest.'  lol

I won't even try to defend my 'secret war' of Prussian and English dwarven agents in the mountains and dense forests...

At least, they are starting to see some paint!

Hope to see more soon!

Doug

Thanks for all the kind comments. The opera house and cathedral are ceramic Chrismas decorations that I got at a flee market years ago. The university is a couple of sets of Pegasus Hobby Gothic Building sets. The fancy townhouses on the Zagloba Prospekt are old Model Power buildings, technically HO scale, that are sadly no longer in production. The castle is a Zvesda set. The rest of the builidngs are paper models from Dave Graffam (especially the Old Town buildings) or from the Perry's Heroes website. Most of the cobblestone streets are embossed felt sheets that I lightly dry-brushed. The ballroom is scratch built.

Regarding some of the figures, the peasants in the Old Towne pictures are from the Perry Brother Carlist Wars Spanish civilian pack as well as from the WestWind Sleepy Hollow villagers pack.  There's also a woman from the Perry Brothers ACW civilian rioter pack.  The professor is an old Ral Partha (I think) judge figure that I add a small square of cardboard to as the mortarboard.

Excelsior! How's a bloke supposed to not get green with envy, I ask you? I recognized the manor house model, and was dead on about my guesses about the rest as well. Holy Smokes, that's one hell of an impressive set up!

A simple conversion that seems so obvious AFTER the presentation.  ;)

I assume the Magisterium carraige has horses in front? I think I see them, but not sure. 4 or 6? Would love to see in entire.

And, yes, green is the colour I've attained, as well!

This wonderful I'm surprised the 1/72 scale buildings like the Zevda castle works so well with the other elements.

The Magesterium carriage is as is, self-propelled without horse.  The concept of the game is that there is an underlying conflict between magic/alchemy and weird science (a la Frankenstein) so there will be some limited elements of both in the campaign.

I'm hoping this shows up at Cold Wars.

Ah, another case of blinded by what I expected to see...  :D

Does sound like fun! You'll keep us aware?

Alas, someone having offered to paint as a gift decided to get me 'something I'll really like'. Dear lad, but I already have a lot of stuff I really like, and would really like to see painted. *sniff*
