Title: Set dressing for my Old West games
Post by: Malamute on 12 January 2014, 12:33:01 PM
I like to flesh out my gaming table with as much background clutter and scenic bits and pieces as possible. I believe they make the game come alive providing cover and objectives as well as colour and period flavour. I enjoy painting this kind of stuff as much as the figures. I did most of these over the Christmas holidays.

The market stalls are essential for any village or town scenario and will work in a number of settings as well as the Old West including my Robin Hood and pirate games. The tables are scratch built from Balsa wood with sacks, barrels, foodstuffs etc from a variety of sellers incuding Skytrex, Black Cat and my own Boot Hill Miniatures range.

A couple of horses to stand in my corral or form part of a pony herd if I get around to painting any more...

A Dixon Miniatures wagon. My favourite of all the wagon models I have seen.

And finally Pablo the donkey. He's an Ass really. ;)

Great stuff, love the market stalls, and as you say, usable in just about any era   8)

A bit unkind to Pablo  ;)

Lovely stuff, mate.
 :-*

It is almost like looking at my Old West 'to-do' pile, as I have a lot of similar stuff staring at me from the shelf in the cupboard.
Even down to wagon (which is really nice..).

As for Pablo....not sure about him..... >:D

Nice stuff. I do like those unsaddled horses, I've never seen them before. Where are theyes from? Cheers

Old Glory. Spare ponies from their Plain Indians packs. Strange figures and some dodgy sculpts. These were suitable for the corral as they are standing still and have no bridles etc.

Surely Pablo is just misunderstood?  ;)

Nice work Nick.

Is that the Dixons chuck wagon?

Lovely stuff :-* :-* :-*
As you say it is one of the trademark things that make your games stand out above the rest, the time and effort you put into producing the lovely clutter on you tables. Inspiring stuff which has made me try to do similar stuff for my own games. I have market stalls on my workbench for our pirate game but I struggle for the inspiration to paint them.

No, it's the half covered general purpose wagon.

Whatcha get from Skytrex and is it still available?

Oh yeah, don't you mean our Robin Hood games (unless you've found someone else to play with  ;D ).

Pablo looks like he's had a white paint accident  lol

 ;)

cheers

James

Aha, (not in a Alan Partridge stylee) I'm yet to pick one of those up. I've still got the stagecoach to tackle at some point in the near future.. It's got more parts than an Airfix kit!!!!  :o

Yep and it's a Sod to put together lol

The roof doesn't fit properly until you file the underside locating bars as they do no tmake the roof fit snuggly.

It takes a bit of patience, but it is well worth it. The Dixon stage and wagons are the best as far as I am concerned.

Good stuff as usual.  :-*

As Colin said, filling the board with small bits of detail was a top tip from your good self. (see, I can be nice to you)
